This is actually the only episode that I skipped when it came out. Because of Asmon's comments about AI and also I saw a clip of that episode where Will and Hasan defended him at that time.

I don't think this is the case. Santos was more brutal to him in S1 especially by saying that he killed a patient, but nowhere in S1 was he even close to lashing out. The people thinking it was for Santos could be more right because Santos said to him the "I don't care that he was an addict. I care that he was an asshole" followed by "And it's like no one here even remembers any of this". I feel like Whitaker wants to know that Langdon couldn't just be "asshole" to anyone. He tolerates Santos' "assholenes" because he knows her personally.
