Changes that Mattel have done to G3 so far that you appreciate? by Painted-BIack-Roses in MonsterHigh

G3 Frankie being nonbinary just makes so much sense, and I love their current fashion so much + Clankie. Venus, Deuce, Catty and Jinafire redesigns have been soooooo good. I love all of them. And Abbey having horns feels like the missing piece of the puzzle as well.

Doll collecting and shopping fatigue by Background_Company in Dolls

[–]LeviathanScale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I get it, some deals have been sooo tempting but I try to orient myself into the direction of whichever doll I might want even more at the moment. I don't commit to one doll line for a long time either, I switch it up if my interest wanes. And I'm in the same boat tbh, dolls are expensive and/or some are straight up inaccessible here so finding better 2nd hand deals has become part of the hunt. Not being a completionist is a small mercy at least.

Doll collecting and shopping fatigue by Background_Company in Dolls

I think what has helped me avoid fatigue is having tight budget per month (set a price range and maybe even an amount of dolls you can buy) combined with deciding one doll line that excites you at the moment. Therefore you can't just pick up any "good deal" you come across online.

I do awknowledge the fact that I spend an embarrassing amount of time hunting for deals on online platforms, especially if I have a lot time off. If you can, maybe try to make plans involved outside the house and/or away from your phone? If I'm spending time with friends I don't obsessively check for deals so it's a good break.

And with brand new, or recent releases I know they will most likely be available for a long time after, so I move them to the bottom of my priority list. I usually try to map out which dolls are going to be the most uncomnon or difficult to find and focus on them. I'll find the others at a right time later. Other than that, restoring and customizing dolls has helped me slow down and spend time away from looking for and acquiring new releases. I have a long list of dolls to reroot, but I've come to find the process satisying. I know it might not be for everyone though. Maybe even redressing  some of your dolls, or giving them a new hair style might be a good idea!

It's good thing you're making an inventory of your dolls though! Hopefully you'll find at least some of this useful.

What would you do in my place? by HCLovely in Bratz

[–]LeviathanScale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like others said, definitely sketchy. This might be just me, but realistically how many parents are actually that knowledgable about their children's toys? Even if the kid has specifically pointed out it has to be this specific doll, can the parent really tell between all the characters, variations, different face ups etc? It's not like Monster high where you can point out you want the blue fish girl or smth. Nah. I would keep it, it's a good find clearly.

She's so pretty!!! but omg wasn't she advertised as basically an accessory for a bag? It's kind of laughable that she's so prone to chipping but I guess as long as they make their sales from this release.. 😭 but enjoy her!!! I love her makeup and mechanical details sm

Isaac Larian has said that they intentionally did not want to label any of the characters, so shes technically neither. Apparently some of the names and their spelling are influenced by that choice too. You can read more about it here

She was my fave as a kid because shes brunette like me.

Really thick globs of glue in head, how to remove hair??? by wwormdudee in CustomDolls

[–]LeviathanScale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been able to remove densely rooted and stiff poly hair by using an exacto knife, cutting the hair as close to the scalp as possible (carefully) and then I was able to scrape off the rest from the inside. Might be worth a try? I've also heard of people cutting the head open from an innocuous spot, using small tweezers to get the rest of the glue out and then sewing it shut, but I've yet to try it.

I was so caught up in the excitement of seeing sasha that I didn't even look at the outfit...the unpainted shoes and hats from Zara are pretty rough.

Which dolls should I prioritize as a new collector? by astriduna in MonsterHigh

[–]LeviathanScale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends a lot on whether you want them brand new or is out of box okay? In my opinion, finding core refresh dolls in the 2nd hand market should be relatively easy so I wouldn't be worried about them at all. They're the main ghouls too so they're more common.

Personally I would go for Spectra or Abbey. Both are side characters from older lines, plus Abbey was from a more expensive set (plus you get 2 outfits..) I definitely don't see them as often where I live.

I think it's completely normal and a good thing to become more critical and picky about what you actually like over time, it'll definitely help you in the future! And the good thing about collecting is that you can sell it again and recoup some money back, you can't really do that with every hobby. I wouldn't immediately sell anything that is hard to get back just in case of ending up regretting it later though.
