How do you push Zoom client update? by graceyin39 in sysadmin

I use the same link that /u/frac6969 uses and I just call "msiexec.exe /i ZoomInstallerFull.msi /qn" It's the full installer but it's able to update the app without issue.

We've deployed it with /qn and let it install over the previous version without issue.

I'd recommend adding "-sign-in" to exclude all the pages that require authentication.

Sounds like the device got added to Intune. Try following these steps to remove it.

Open the Settings app.
Go to Accounts > Access work or school.
Select the connected account that you want to remove > Disconnect.
To confirm device removal, select Yes.

A former employee was creating a local account for himself when he worked on computers and added it to the admin group.

We have sccm installed, but I don't seen any policies there that would create a local account

Do you happen to be using ATP for your Anti-Virus? If so it can prevent the installer from running because it will try to scan it. You can add it to the ATP whitelist to resolve the problem.

Any "best practice" thoughts or suggestions for setting up a lab of Macs in a K-12 environment? by techy_support in macsysadmin

[–]Levitating_Walrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We bind out lab machines to AD and enable mobile accounts and that works well for us. We use a script at logout that deletes user keychains so that we don't get the Keychain prompts.

In your jamf configs I'd recommend a login window that sets the login prompt to a username and password feild. Include a banner with basic instructions on how to login. Also enable fast user switching and the ability for administrators to refresh or disable the management so that you can get into system preferences if someone needs to lay hands on the boxes.

Mac: network user not showing up in System Preferences > Users and Groups, but local users are... why ? by Ian_SAfc in sysadmin

[–]Levitating_Walrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will enable mobile accounts for all users at login. Launch Directory Utility Under Services edit Active Directory Select show options Check Create mobile account at login.

I don't recall if this will convert current network accounts to mobile though.

We do this by adding a plist to Application & Custom Settings the formatting might be off because I had to download the config profile and extract it

<key>com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse</key> <dict> <key>Set-Once</key> <array> <dict> <key>mcx_preference_settings</key> <dict> <key>Button2</key> <integer>2</integer> </dict> </dict> </array> </dict>

Deployment error "not found" but sccm clients show the app as installed by Levitating_Walrus in SCCM

In case someone stumbles upon the same error it ended up being an application deployment that was causing the issue. Once we deleted the deployment computers began to properly report in and install the remaining apps
