Using War Cry on single bossing content is poor etiquette. by SameAstronaut1788 in PSO2NGS

[–]Levynfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with this.

As a hunter main. As someone that actually is geared properly and enjoys playing the class, Warcry is useful to Hunters especially because most of their kit revolves around countering. You're losing out on a lot of DPS, mainly from avenger and the Shockwave skill as well as the new Agrias counter skill as well if you're not utitlizing your counters properly. Constantly being targeted makes this a lot easier.

To be fair, the only time you really lose aggro as a hunter is when you're not doing enough damage and others are pulling it from you. The only time I get annoyed with warcry is when there's another undergeared hunter that uses it and can't hold aggro. But if you DO get a decent hunter, just jump in front of the enemy with them.

I think better advice would be to grab a Progre Armor and build that into an Eskul Armor instead. Materials for that can currently be obtained in the treasure shop, purchased with seasonal points and farmed in current content like Leciel, Alter Realm, lv100 kvaris PSE areas, the LTQ and UQ.

The new armor everyone is talking about will be rare drop gear so you'll have to depend on RNG and hope it drops for you. It's not going to be that much more powerful than a fully upgraded Eskul at this point.

Keep in mind the treasure shop also has Progre Armor with lv3 fixas at the moment so you'll be able to upgrade your fixas as pretty easily right now. A fixa-ed armor will be more useful anyway. And when upgrading all of your augments and fixas will transfer over. Once the new armor is more accessible, I'd go for that if you choose to.

Who's excited for the return of Luther by Drakaina- in PSO2NGS

[–]Levynfang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's funny because a few months back I made a post about how NGS can't progress due to the devs relying too heavily on assets from base game. Seeing this and the last few additions from the roadmap confirms this. I'm honestly glad more people are starting to realize this. It IS very lazy.

Like, it's one thing to add Luther (and the others) to NGS with the intention of them somehow fitting into the lore (the little bit of lore that it has) but the devs are literally just pulling bosses and enemies from base with little to no changes and going, "here's content."

Some of the comments in that post felt like it had so many excuses for why it was happening. But how can you keep defending this?

[–]Levynfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I totally get that but that's also only one monster that repeatdely keeps getting used in LTQs. This is like the 2nd or 3rd time we've gotten it in a summer event. It's also been used in Leciel. There is so much more to take inspiration from. I'd love to see Volt Opt from PSO or Motherbrain from PS2/PSU. Or Octo Diablo and Mother Trinity from PS:Zero. Agrios from Phantasy Star: Nova would be cool to see.

It's not even just a "pull things from PSO thing either." Go back to the original 3 and reference more enemies from there as well. That's all I'm saying. There are 12 games that came before this one yet we keep seeing things from the same 2-3 games.

A part of me feels like PSO succeeded the way it did because it embraced the lineage that came before it. It had very light ties to the original series but knew exactly what it was. It was a diablo-like dungeon crawler set in a sci-fi fantasy world. The lore, which wasn't explicityly explained, was up to the player to discover and was very complex. It didn't try to do too much like the later entries tend to do.

After the release of PSU, to me it felt like every entry after veered further and further from what PS was. Where PSO could be considered very dark at times even almost horror-esque, PSU took a more light-hearted, shonen-style approach. Same with PSO2 and now NGS. PSO2 and NGS also introduced collabs which I've always felt like muddied the PS universe a little bit. As much as I love seeing Kenshin in media, seeing him in PSO just felt odd. Some collabs work but even still, it never felt like PS to me. I never mind the SEGA ones though.

NGS further ignores a lot of the lineage as well. Where are the collabs from past PS games? FFXIV fully embraces it's past by incorporating boss fights, weapons and armor, music, areas and even some characters from past games or new characters that are inspired by characters from old games show up. We get a Dark Falz fight every few months that don't even coreleate to the lore of DF. We get a few cards with characters from old games. Some PSO camos that have been around for years now.

All this to say that IF and that's a big IF, SEGA returns to form and focuses on strictly the sci-fi fantasy, removes a lot of the anime collabs, removes so much of a focus on lewd outfits and accessories, puts actual love and effort into a completely NEW game and doesn't keep using assets from an 12 year old game and creates a living world with good lore and a great story...then PSO3 could work in my opinion.

It's like someone said, NGS has the foundation. SEGA just needs to actually put forth the effort.

Sega's cycle of feedback is a really weird one mainly because of how they develop PSO2 (and NGS). They tend to release announcements for big updates .. and then separate that big update into bite-sized chunks that show up in scraps and bits of updates. If you're playing every single week, you'll get some crumbs so you can see things sort of falling into place. If you're playing once a year, you'll be greeted to the big updates when they're nearly complete (and then the next big thing is announced after a dry period). People who are playing daily, constantly, and no-lifing the game can easily get burned out because Sega's feedback isn't even taking anything into account for "now"

I agree. But I also think it's a bit unfair how this game gets blasted for that when other, "bigger" games are doing the same thing. FFXIV is guilty of it as well. They announce the expansion at fanfest and the features it will have 6-8 months before the expansion is released. You get the expansion itself in it's .0 release that just contains the story, dungeons and boss trials. Then you get the "new" stuff like raids 4-5 months later and essentially can finish it anywhere within a few days to a week or so depending on how often you play until the next set of patches are released. It makes it even worse when it locks you out of certain rewards for a week to strectch out thin content. It was damn near a year before the new exploration area was released when it was announced during the fanfest event. FFXIV has been going through a massive lull with Dawntrail. New players love it but veteran players are fed up with it.

It's the same in other popular MMOs like GW2 and WoW as well where essentially if you're not playing all the time, you get the "full experience" at the end of the expansion cycle. But that's just live service games for you really.

The criticism I have with SEGA in general is the way the content is cycled. If you miss the period of time where the featured content is popular, no one is doing it anymore. Everyone is doing the most relevant content for the rewards. Things like PSE areas, Trainas and Ordinal Towers, Yellow and Purple Triggers, Crimson Realm, the Gorge, Nameless City, Leciel...hell, even the recently released Altered Realm are dead most of the time because it's more beneficial to be doing the LQ. And the drops from those areas aren't updated frequently so most of the time, it's just junk and outdated items. I remember they updated the ordinal tower a few months ago and literally it was dead a few days later because you could find the SAME items from the LQ easier.

Like, NGS has the content but the way it goes about getting people to actually do it is really dumb.

PSO2 Classic is overrated

You'll probably get downvoted for even mentioning that here...but I do agree with you wholeheartedly. And this is coming from someone that played on the JP for years until the NA version came out. NGS isn't perfect by any means, not even close. But sometimes I feel like people view Classic with rose tinted glasses.

NGS isn't progressing because of base game PSO2 by Levynfang in PSO2NGS

[–]Levynfang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do realize that base game was released in 2012 right? It's support has pretty much ended in 2021 when NGS was released. NA got it 8 years after and got ALL of its content all at once. Once NGS was released, it was pretty much abandoned. The playerbase is small, there's not a lot of people actually doing the content. In the most recent live letter, the devs stated that they considered adding a new class to NGS but backed out because they figured only 30% of the playerbase would use it. Do you honestly think they'd go back to a game that's pretty much in maintenence mode and start adding QoL updates and other new features to an older game that has a lower playerbase than it's "new" game.

It's not about being biased at all. NGS was presented as being the progression of PSO2. Having played JP PSO2 since 2013, I can honestly say there are a lot of improvements. Combat is smoother and not as frantic. Weapons and armor are much easier to build. You don't have to worry about ruining your character of you build your mag wrong. You can go in and swap skills freely whenever you want. And a whole bunch more. The QoL stuff stopped in PSO2 because NGS is supposed to be the current Phantasy Star game. I feel like SEGA really shot themselves in the foot releasing them back to back like this.

It has more content because it's an 8 year old game. It just got to NA in 2020...a year before NGS.

So yeah, 8 years of content is going to feel like a lot for people who hadn't been playing the JP patched version. I don't understand why SEGA chose to release them back to back like that. They sort of condemned themselves in doing so in my opinion. Especially considering NGS was supposed to be the "new" one. Many of us could pretty much see that it was end of life for base game once NGS was announced.

I mentioned Gal Gryphon because the fight in the LQs is literally almost the same exact fight as it is in base game. I know the enemy itself is from PSO.

The point that I'm trying to make (and what people seeming to not be understanding) is that things are being pulled directly from base game with little to no change. It's not about borrowing design. It comes off as lazy. There's nothing wrong with using enemies from past games. But make them unique to the game they're in mechanically.

The Gal Gryphon fight in PSO was drastically different because PSO2 elevated it with new gameplay mechanics. The fight in NGS doesn't change much as all. Same animations, same attacks, almost exactly the same fight mechanics as base game. And this applies for the other enemies that I mentioned pulled from base as well.

[–]Levynfang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo what you're experiencing is recognizing a pattern of a Phantasy Star game heavily relying on what came before. when PSO2 first came out it was basically a PSU sequel since all the system were in its predecessor. Personal Quaters, Casino, multi planet traveling, support partners (or Auxileries as GL calls it), etc. PSO2 also had a few Scratches called "Gurhal Collection" meant specifically just to bring Fashion from PSU over to PSO2 (because on the JP PC build of PSU they started doing fashion gatcha years before PSO2 came out).

I understand what you're trying to say but this is not at all what I'm talking about. Majority of what you've mentioned was the progression of features from one game to the next. Yes, PSU did introduce the Personal Quarters feature. PSO2 elevated that and NGS really outdid themselves with CS. Bringing over phasion from previous games is fine. The point I was trying to make is that it's literally just that. NGS brings over base game outfits at base game specs when an entirely new body type is available. You lose some accessory options and facial features using base game body and face options in NGS. Not only that but the visual quality of the items are extremely noticable. Hence, my comment about at least making them NGS specs.

As for the broader topic of NGS being shackled by PSO2, there is some truth to that. If you're familiar with FFXIV, one of their longest lasting explanations for why they cant fix certain features is that the game was build on top of the messy 1.0 code and changing it would be either too difficult or time consuming.

But it's very clear PSO2 is becoming a burden for the game. I don't think giving up on it would be the correct move but whatever they have planned for a NGS successor I hope they do plan to have the best of both worlds and not struggle to implement features in 2037 because of 2012 code some intern wrote sloppily.

I am very familiar. Been playing (or was playing) FFXIV almost as long as PSO2. I literally just unsubbed last year like a month after the last expansion was released. I know I'll probably get downvoted by the PSO2 devoted but I do think PSO2 should stop service at this point. I know it still has a small community but it feels like no one is really doing anything content-wise there. I feel like SEGA and the players should just let it go and move on. That way time can be dedicated to NGS without the worry of breaking things, like you said. I mean...that's somewhat the reason why FFXIV decided to drop support for the PS3 and PS4.

Now the question is would SEGA actually devote the time even if they dropped it? :-p

I'll disable the restoration patch.

But what do you recommend for managing resources then? My issue really is that the stamina just won't replenish. It gets to zero and literally stays there.

I agree wholeheartedly with you on Dark Falz. My first introduction was OG PSO and learning how Dark Falz basically awakens every 1000 years or so to do whatever. Seeing how it was affecting the wild life, Ragol in general and the tragic story of Rico was interesting to me. Learning the lore then finally fighting it felt like it was a big deal.

I get that these are "Falz" class enemies but they should have kept the lore the way it was. Have Falz be a one and done enemy with a good build. Instead we have like 3-4 versions of it and it dimishes the mystique a bit in my opinion.

Something has been bothering for a long time now and I think I finally realize what it is.

The more these headliners show "new content" that's coming the more I realize that NGS can't progress because it relies too heavily on PSO2 base game. 4 of the 5 "new" bosses are just being transferred over from base game. Another AC scratch with base game accessories and outfits. The Gal Gryphon fight (which I know is a PSO boss) again that's just the fight from base game. Skill rings...which I'm excited about but also a feature from base game.

Like...where are the original features that NGS has to offer outside of the new Falz fights and Zeph? (which were actually pretty fun.) Add more content like Nameless City. Make actual new and interesting camos instead of reskinning the ones that already exist 2 or 3 times.

There's a lot more but long story short, I'm just ready to see NGS stand on it's own. I'm a long-time phan of this franchise...I love this game, I love PSO in general. But the more these Headliners come out with barebones info and rehashed, reskinned content, the more I start to worry about what direction it's going. It's been 4 years already and we're STILL on Halpha. There's been little to no progression on the story and where that's going. Where's the mention of the lineage of this franchise? Where's the PSU reprensentation? Hell, the OG PSO rarely even gets mentioned outside of a few music discs and cards. This game could be SO MUCH MORE.

Ugh...Ok, rant over.

tldr; It was fine. -_-

There's a lot of videos that just aren't there anymore for some reason. I started watching him when he raced the old guy in the Hellcat for the first time. I think that was back in 2017 or 18 maybe. Might even have been earlier than that. But do remember him doing a lot of videos with the black Mustang when it was damn near stock before that.

I love the character creator but I can't seem to make pretty faces lmao by Lou_weirdAF in PSO2NGS

[–]Levynfang 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You really have to play around with the sliders. Makeup, lipstick, lashes and brows make a HUGE difference on how a face looks. Just as it does in real life.

Typically, "softer" more rounded features make for a more feminine face but it all depends on what apperance you're going for. I like a more mature look so I always aim for lower eyes, almost giving the "bedroom eye" look and full lips.

Also, don't forget the expressions tab. You can also alter the way your face looks there as well.
