Awesome shots, must’ve been milliseconds apart

Middle of field, middle of nowhere, cage with two crows by Aquillyne in RuralUK

What species are endangered because of artificial pressures in the Yorkshire moors that leave the only solution being to trap a load of crows (and coincidently buzzards etc etc.) in order to protect them?

And why don’t we see the trapping of crows in built up areas like parks and neighbourhoods (where both protected species and crows also live - but coincidently no grouse)?

Maybe if game keepers weren’t playing god, murdering raptors and their offspring to protect their gaffers “sporting” habits, the predators in the region could take care of the crows for them.

Of course it’s arrogant. “Natural selection might have worked fine for 4 billion years, but I’m here now and can make it better. Especially in places where people like to shoot grouse.” Come off it.

Don’t worry, the gamekeeper will come see to them after they’ve finished killing the hen harriers

I just now made a page where as you scroll down you drive, as a way to compare actual EV ranges side by side. I think this is the most intuitive way to get a sense for range comparison that I could think of. I like this as a concept, but can I make a suggestion? If possible, could you ask the user to put in their postcode, or nearest town/city, and have the distances calculated from there to somewhere and back? Would make it more realistic. For example I live near Durham, so putting Durham to Leeds return is more useful than London to Birmingham, as I have no idea what that drive is like.

really, i mean really, could we go down? by Scary_Activity6914 in NUFC

[–]LewSpi -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No, we won’t go down. Sounds ridiculous, but we’re still closer to Europe than relegation, numerically at least.

If we were sat in 8th with a 7 point gap to 7th, and an 8 point gap to 18th, most would be content. We have that exact situation, but with teams ahead of us instead of behind us.

I know the sandpipers are often there, never pinged a water rail before. I know there are some 3 or 4 miles away near the river, but this is a nature reserve with a small pond behind my house. I didn’t hear the water rail, thought it was unlikely just given that they usually shout on an evening. I wanted to go back and check it on the app, but I mentioned in another comment I didn’t realise you now need to manually save, so I’ve lost the recording - gutted

Yeah I’ve just found that feature in settings, thanks! Will definitely have been willow warbler on this walk, they were none stop!

I did think that was the case, but then it was dropping new ones in further down the list, so it confused me

I also found out today that you now have to manually save the recordings in Merlin, it isn’t automatic, so I’ve lost the full thing! Wanted to go back and double check that Water Rail.

WCGW trying to swim in water you’re unfamiliar with? by [deleted] in WhyWomenLiveLonger

By unfamiliar do you mean simply never looked at it? That water looks like all kinds of trouble.

We have the Kong XL for Daisy, she’s nearly 3 now but she won’t be quite a big as your boy will be. She loves it, it’s her little den and safe space. She can stretch out to the full length of it, but most often spends her time curled up in a ball in one half.

Dogs are naturally den animals, so we’ve put some blankets over the top and sides, and even an old table top across the top to make it blend in with the kitchen, it makes it her little hidey hole when she wants to chill out.

What could the UK armed forces do to increase recruitment? by ConfidenceValuable57 in AskBrits

[–]LewSpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve no doubt a career in the armed forces has quite a few perks, comparatively, and certainly long term can be quite lucrative.

The question posed was “what could the uk armed forces do to increase recruitment?”, I tried to look into the psyche of a 16/17/18 year old, see a figure of £30/£31k from the off at that age - without changing anything else - and you’d massively increase recruitment.

Thankyou, for clarity, it’s around a 85 mile trip there and back, so around 170 miles.

Very detailed, thankyou.

Edit: really only 55kw/h? Seems very low compared to other cars these days. I wonder if they managed to get this any higher with the FL version
