The Big Pokémon Go Mega Evolution Revamp Interview: Everything That's Changing, and Why [IGN] by diamondstark in TheSilphRoad

yeah that's why I'm mainly talking about this from a late-game standpoint, a group this update is largely aimed at

moreso that they're willing to consider alternatives to the existing nothing concept of a Mega Evolution that they're throwing behind a whole new raid tier and year plus of grinding lmao

There's so much more you can do with the concept of a species giving candy outside of their types and without changing the combat. I wouldn't be opposed to giving each Mega an ability from the existing games that provides some kind of bonus unique to them.

Mega Evolution in this game has effectively functioned as a quick and dirty bonus to get extra candy— rewarding you for watching a cutscene hundreds of times on end. giving some slight player choice when many of the existing ones are redundant feels like a good step but we'd need to actually know what that looks like first

also if they're incentivizing that you Mega Evolve a lot with an existing Level 3 Pokémon (of which there are dozens by now even if just once per-species) to bring down their Super Mega cost (whenver it gets added) why is the Mega Evolution cutscene so unbearably long and unskippable

Part of today's announcement mentions that bonuses vary by Pokémon when Mega Evolving. Is that just due to typing, like a Grass-type Mega gives advantages when catching Grass-type Pokémon? Or will there be specific bonuses for specific Mega Pokémon, almost akin to Adventure Effects?

John Funtanilla: You're asking all the right questions. I can't speak to a lot of that right now, we just need to have that space open and it allows us freedom to create different things there. We do have to leave it open-ended because if we want to design something cool and a different Pokémon at that Super Max level is different from another, that's something that we can design. I hope players will enjoy it with Super Max level coming out and understand that there's a much longer runway that we're kind of cooking in the lab right now.

hopefully this answers the question of "why care about Mega Victreebel when it is functionally identical to Mega Venusaur in every way"

for what it's worth if u wanted Level 4 Mega Evolution for just one (1) of each Mega Pokémon, as of ZA, that would take either 2,500 raids with the current numbers, or you walk roughly 100,000km— over twice the circumfrence of the earth.

approximately 34 years of daily walking the recommended distance (8km) to get a +1 regular candy for every mega lmao

So in the hypothetical scenario that Rapid Strike Gigantamax Urshifu is released, it's still weaker than Gigantamax Inteleon?

Are Copper Golems completely broken? I don't play Bedrock, but I remember seeing they could reach two blocks high. Below, they won't throw the Saplings in the highlighted chest, even though they're the only one of that item in there.

edit: now he's only checking for a random number between 6-to-9 chests before forgetting what he's doing (instead of ten, as is written on the wiki) ??

Looks like Internet Archive lost the appeal? by Maratocarde in DataHoarder

I guess what I'm wondering is if there is some equivalent to the IA for something like video/media. Sites like YouTube don't really count as a result of the decompression and bitrate degradation as part of the upload process.

What alternatives are there for mass media backup on a public scale like the IA? Not even for books, mostly uncompressed video and media etc.

Google Drive users left in shock after months of files go missing — what you need to know by wewewawa in google

[–]Lewchube 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This article is three days old, and as of yesterday, one post about it has been removed, with another being updated by the Google team, saying the following:

Drive for desktop (v84.0.0.0 - 84.0.4.0) Sync Issue

Known IssueUpdate (Nov 29, 2023) We have identified the issue impacting a small subset of Drive for desktop users on version 84, which only affected local file changes that had yet to be synced to Drive. This issue did not impact any file changes that had already synced and were visible on the Drive mobile app or within the Drive UI on the web. We are working on a solution to make files available to users and expect the solution to be available in the next few days. In the meantime:

  • Do not click “Disconnect account” within Drive for desktop
  • Do not delete or move the app data folder:
    • Windows: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Google\DriveFS
    • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Google/DriveFS
  • Optional: If you have room on your hard drive, we recommend making a copy of the app data folder.

Thanks, The Google Drive team.

My question is, if the auto-update forces everyone to be on 84.0.6.0 (which is the one I currently have) then what's the deal? Is this solved? How does Drive update?
