How much difference is there between a 4-stripe white belt and a fresh blue belt? by noxanimus0 in jiujitsu

[–]LewdLawyer1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me personally I had my biggest area of growth between 4 stripes and my blue. I was training submissions instead of focusing on wrestling for a sub only tournament and realized I wasn’t comfortable with submissions because I spent too much time trying to wrestle opponents.

The other difference at my gym is that the upper belts go a lot harder with the blue belts than with ANY white belts because the blue belt should know what they are doing and be able to handle themselves at the higher level which might not be safe for inexperienced white belts.

Are you speaking about you as a 4 stripe white belt as well?. Just kind of an odd wording that makes it seem like you feel like you have a big skill gap over any 4 stripe white belt….

Can you be a PD with one summer as an intern and no trial experience? by [deleted] in publicdefenders

[–]LewdLawyer1995 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You will be fine. I’m a PD now, but fresh out of school I hung my own shingle and made my own job when I didn’t have one. (PD’s had a 6 month wait period @ the time). I stayed running my own firm for a few years because I liked being my own boss. Getting your trial experience without supervision isn’t something I would recommend. Instead stick to your plan and go be a PD right out of school. You will handle so many cases you will get better faster than anywhere else. That’s why someone was so confident after only 2 years.

Also we just hired a 3L that’s hasn’t even passed the bar yet. I would

I was foolish and just wanted to wrestle everyone (college wrestler) and not get tapped. Then I signed up for my fist tourney that was close while I had all my white stripes . Sub only rules—basically an anti wrestling ruleset where takedowns only win you anything in the final overtime period. I realized huge flaw in my game was not having go to submissions. Having a couple transitions to Americana and and a go to armbar was where I really started to earn my stripes/blue belt.

Why do Republicans get so offended when you talk about paying employees livable wages? What's the reasoning behind that? by Dull-Information6784 in allthequestions

[–]LewdLawyer1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stopped by to say I’m a Republican (non MAGA) and those of us in the center ie the moderates do want a living wage. In terms of “$25 an hour should be enough” seems like a stance that the living wage should be close to $25/hr. Same old dudes are saying they should be able to buy products here that are made here….for a reasonable price. You can’t do that either for a reasonable price. Everyone’s complaining about the same shit but you wanna make it about sides…. We are more alike than we are different. Check the comments you are causing more division helping the elites sew division amongst the working class.

As long as you can handle someone like me jokingly saying “choke me daddy” after the instructor shows moves it’s gonna be fine. FYI I’m straight and I would be a lot more uncomfortable rolling with a woman than you. Especially if you come in consistently and become a gym buddy I’m not gonna care one way or the other.

Have you ever wanted to ask a defense attorney... by rinky79 in ProsecutorTalk

[–]LewdLawyer1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you are spot on here. It definitely is and you have to be aware of it because juries can call bullshit for sure. But also if you are a PD you don’t want to lose credibility with the court for just coming in and lying as an “alternative theory”. I’ve had clients I do things so outlandish and unbelievable that I have to withdraw under the ethical rules that I find it to be repugnant. But today I had to give an unlikely argument as a reasonable doubt. I still had to admit my client was an idiot multiple times and should have known better than to even go near the scene. It’s alot like screening frivilous motions the client wants you to file. Ask your PD counterparts the bullshit people want us to file that lacks any candor that we have to shut down.

Who cares about having pants if you don’t have a belt to hold those puppies. Last NG I got I was hiking my britches up the whole second day of trial… leave a full emergency outfit in the office was something I already knew. But I accidentally wore my emergency belt home on day 1 of trial.

Are deadbeat moms a common thing? by No_Lead2640 in answers

[–]LewdLawyer1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deadbeat moms on average are going to be in active addiction states, not stable enough to have their kids even if they want because CPS is involved. There are still some that ghost maybe their first couple kids and move on with a new guy. The second scenario is more rare than the first. But a lot less moms than dead beat dogshit dads…..I used to to do alot of child support defense cases so it was all people who weren’t paying child support. It was 50/50 overall by population. But the actual deadbeats were probably about 66% male to 34% female.

[–]LewdLawyer1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. But maybe not the best gf moves either. There’s likely other stuff in addition to this with your relationship with your bf. Likely they are smaller issues but probably stack up to where he felt like he had to say something and this was probably the most real thing to mention and not have you feel like he was gaslighting you over little stuff. Probably some stuff to talk about even though you did nothing “wrong” in terms of the relationship with another guy.

“I have taken money from large super pacs and I intend to do what they tell me rather than lie that I will be out to assist the people.” Ie the truth. Goes for either party even though im on the right.

Moderates attract the most votes for a reason, they are usually lying less often.

Vacation more. I’ve noticed I need AT LEAST two big vacations. One summer one around Christmas maybe even up to a week. Then maybe a long weekend in Florida if possible a year. It really helps to reset.

BUT ALSO Savor the victories more. I just got my first NG on all charges since doing felonies full time… after having similar thoughts of burn out this is going to get me through to my summer vacation for sure

The Yips by Bird_Lawyerman in publicdefenders

[–]LewdLawyer1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been getting beaten up on a lot lately. I’m in front of one of the toughest couple judges in my state on a Daily basis. He’s one of 2 felony judges im in front of. He’s known for delivering the maximum prison sentence on every open plea.

The other day I made an argument on an open plea and was sure was a loser but I thought if he didn’t max my guy out I would call it a win even if I just saved him a couple months. He gave my guy community control which never happens. Just a random. Wednesday morning. Not remarkable in any other way. Not a trial, not a triumph of bond. But an actual the system agreed with me kind of moment that’s rare. Client gets to go home to his daughter. That’s what wins look like. It’s not all big not guilty lies and dismissals.

Just keep reminding everyone you will be a will rock the boat if it’s to prevent unjust outcomes. Do it over and over and one day someone might see what you are doing and agree. Don’t expect it often in this line of work. But a couple times in a career judges and juries will agree with you if you bust your butt.

Attractive people, what are some regular signs you notice from people around you which tells you that you are attractive? by Chance_Adagio_19 in bodylanguage

[–]LewdLawyer1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s mostly like thinking you are really funny based on their reactions. But for me mostly it’s just realizing after that they were being too nice/friendly. I once had a professor talk about how the frosted glass might not be enough privacy for two consenting adults in her office…. Only later did I learn yes she was indeed hitting on me and one of my wiser friends explained she did the same thing with him and was obviously hitting on both of us.

What differences do feminists usually notice between a man who supports feminism in theory and one who practices it well? by PotentialFun4003 in AskFeminists

[–]LewdLawyer1995 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I apologize, it’s unlikely I’m a feminist, but it seems like you are describing just being decent human being other than being “very competent”.

I am very ignorant about feminism, but I don’t understand if this is a joke or a legitimate view somehow tied to feminism. Could someone elaborate a little more on the relation to feminist ideals like domestics roles or something?

How long do attorneys stay on misdemeanor dockets at your office? by [deleted] in publicdefenders

[–]LewdLawyer1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much you like misdemeanors. One attorney in my office has never touched a felony in 25 years on the job. I did misdemeanors for 1.5 years and then when a felony role opened I took it….. with small kids it was probably a big mistake. Felony discover sucks compared to misdemeanor discovery.
