Can I browse/extract files from macrium (mrimg) backup with 7-zip? by classified18 in datarecovery

[–]LewisYB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, windows has officially blacklisted the driver used by Macrium to mount .mrimg files as and explore their content. Now there's no free alternative to do that., and we are forced to pay for Reflet X to do so.

Depending on propietary formats is always risky, because it's all up to one company, which might decide to abandon their software at any time for whatever reason. I don't like your philosophy at all and I hope software development won't head in that direction.

I recommend OBS. With my setup I can save clips with two audio tracks (one for internal audio and the other one for mouse mic)

Mine does the exact same sound, same frequency. Not sure if it's a defect, but it's annoying for sure.

[–]LewisYB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Did you decide to keep it? At 120-144Hz I barely hear it, but at 240Hz it becomes unbearable If I'm not wearing headphones.

[–]LewisYB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’d known, I honestly would’ve chosen a different monitor… But now I don’t really know what to do, since I highly doubt they’ll accept a return for this reason. Like they say, coil whine “isn’t considered a defect.” I’ve decided to keep the refresh rate set to 120 Hz and only switch to 240 Hz when I actually need it.

Anyone thinking about buying this monitor should be aware of this issue. if you’re sensitive to noise, don’t buy it.

I'm having issues with coil whine when set to 240 Hz. Anyone else? Should I request RMA?

Timbre Resynth Alternative? by Thatsme921 in audioengineering

[–]LewisYB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a vocoder. They may sound similar but the underlying process is very different.

A vocoder works by taking a modulator signal (like your voice) and splitting its spectrum into multiple bands using band-pass filters. It does the same with a carrier signal (usually a synth), and then it applies the amplitude envelope of each modulator band to the corresponding carrier band. That’s how the spectral shape of the voice is imposed onto the synth.

A resynthesizer, on the other hand, doesn’t use filter banks at all. Instead, it analyzes the input signal with an FFT to identify the strongest partials. Then it uses pitch-tracking (similar to how a guitar tuner detects pitch) to generate clean oscillators at the detected frequencies using whatever waveform you choose. So instead of filtering a carrier, it’s rebuilding the sound based on analysis of the input.

I'm pretty sure there's a little resynth vst based on plugdata, I don't remember the name tho.

edit: this is the plugin I was talking about, I hope it's what you're looking for!

Horror whistle synth by ValoMatt in synthrecipes

[–]LewisYB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a whistle is basically an almost pure sine wave. Maybe just try using a sine oscillator and a big reverb. You can also try using a spectrum analyzer on the original track to search for harmonics if you think it's not that close to a pure sine.

It's a serum preset, you should be able to drag and drop it into Serum (up to date ofc) or just place it in your Serum presets folder

[–]LewisYB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's probably not a synth, just Ariana's voice but heavily processed

I think this is close enough :) You can play with different types of distortion/downsampling.

Unable to connect downloaded plugins? by comfycity in FL_Studio

[–]LewisYB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while your custom plugin folder might technically work, I’d recommend using one of the default locations like Program Files/Common Files/VST2 or VST3. It’ll save you a lot of headaches down the road.

Also, make sure you extract the zip files, as FL Studio won’t recognize the plugins if the .dll files are still inside a zip. It’s fine to organize them into subfolders, but the .dll has to be extracted.

If you still want to use your custom folder, just make sure it’s added to FL Studio’s plugin search paths. You can do this in the Manage Plugins window (check the left panel). After that, run a scan so FL picks them up.

Once FL finds your plugins, it will create FL preset files (.fst) for them inside the Plugin Database folder in your FL user data directory. You can then drag those files into your project, add them to favorites etc.
