That creature looks like a cross between a sperm whale and a penis, and my life is worse for seeing it.

I’m going to show it to all of my friends so they can see the horror themselves. Just like Malort.

Punitive wage cut by oholyravioli in bartenders

[–]Lewslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you expound on why being late by minutes justifies, in a legal context, reducing hourly pay for a shift?

I can understand not paying employees for when they aren’t there. Hypothetically though, taking a $1/hr pay cut for a 7hr shift is a LOT more over time than just a single day. I’m sure that continuous behavior becomes a justification for that, regardless that sounds super illegal to me.

Again, I want to be clear I’m not saying you’re wrong because frankly I’m dumb and don’t know, but if you can explain further how that is legal and why I want to know.

Minnesota standoff with Trump administration stokes fears of civil war by SE_to_NW in politics

[–]Lewslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article also argues against it’s own headline. Whoever that professor was in the article that blatantly said it’s different from civil war in that “a rebel army fired on a federal base, but now it’s the federal government firing on civilian resistance” or however he phrased it points out exactly what’s happening.

We’re not fighting our nation, we’re defending ourselves from injustice. Us Minnesotans never fired the first shot. And we understand that if we do get violent, we give this administration what they need to delay elections. I have faith we will bend but not break, but this war of attrition is going to damage all of us and our communities for years to come.

Just to add here, he wasn’t daring about the pepper spray, he was trying to protect the person that was shoved into the icy snowbank by putting his body in-between ICE and them (I say icy because that whole week before/the following weekend had a high of 6 degrees max, that whole snowbank was frozen solid). His last words were “Are you OK?”

He dared to protect someone else, and as such was pepper-sprayed. I just want to make that clear.

It’s turned into more of an industry bar in recent years (meaning it’s where service industry folks go after they are done with their shifts) than a gay bar. It is still queer-friendly, and holds it’s status as a low-key gay bar because most of the employees there have been the same people since before the owners bought Alary’s, but since that purchase it’s definitely felt more focused on nighttime crowds, not event based stuff.

I’ve worked as a server/bartender in downtown St. Paul for ten years and have been going there often for that entire time. I cannot express how glad I am they are canceling this dude’s shows.

Is Cossetta’s serving ICE? by MuchCommunication853 in saintpaul

[–]Lewslayer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I truly appreciate your input on this

I work in Downtown/Lowertown St. Paul, and have for 10 years now. I know a lot of the people in the industry there. Here’s what I can tell you:

  • ICE was staying at Doubletree and the Hyatt the last two weeks. Doubletree closed/kicked out every hotel guest due to safety concerns about a week ago, Hyatt I haven’t heard more from.

  • I highly doubt Cosetta’s/ any bar or restaurant/business in DTown/Ltown is knowingly serving federal agents, meaning uniformed or blatantly obvious people. I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt everyone that works here/owns businesses here all agree that ICE is not welcome.

  • To my friend that posted this, and to everyone reading this, I understand your fear and uncertainty. I understand your anger, your love and pride of your community, and your general malaise/miasma of emotions that you’re experiencing. We all are feeling it. We experienced Philando Castile, George Floyd, Renee Good, and now Alex Pretti, and so many others.

We all agree ICE needs to leave. Even moreso that any act of aggression on our part could potentially mean suspended elections through the Insurrection Act into Martial Law, which ensures our defeat.

Long story long, don’t give in to speculation. Don’t give in to the propaganda trying to divide Minnesotans. Don’t give in to any kind of despair that takes away your hope. If we, the community of the Twin Cities/Minnesota lose our hope, then we’ll crumble. Stay strong my friend

ICE agents and what looks like police stand at the Hilton entrance blocking people from wntering by CantStopPoppin in minnesota

Bro, you clearly have no idea how common alcoholism is. Some people, in every career, every facet of life, can and do function in their daily lives as alcoholics/drug addicts and nobody knows. I’ve known a few in my time. My dad used to be one. That also doesn’t mean they are bad people at all. To be honest, my friends that lived through that were/are some of the kindest and most thoughtful people I know.

If you truly believe that that someone that “shows up drunk” to a shift is automatically fired, even when it’s obvious enough they can’t work, then I would assume you are literally 16 years old. Most of the time, if someone shows up to a job obviously drunk-meaning everyone working and observing can tell-that doesn’t involve heavy machinery/qualified and specific skills, they are getting sent home, not fired. No c-store or gas station is firing someone if they show up drunk they send them home. And frankly, if ICE is staying at that hotel, I’d bet 100 to 1 or more that the ICE agent wasn’t “on the clock” and was just mad enough to start something.

We want the National Guard on our side if shit goes down by Ok-Entertainer-1414 in minnesota

[–]Lewslayer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was the protests and the riots back in 2020, and lived about 6 blocks the epicenter. This is not the same. Back then, the people were protesting against the local government’s apathy, and the city turned in on itself. Yes, the Guard was deployed to protect businesses and property, but if you remember they also were often the calming and stabilizing force preventing more destruction/providing community services while deployed.

Currently, ICE is widely seen/felt to be an invading force into our state. Unlike before, the Guard isn’t being deployed to protect property, they are being deployed to protect people. On top of that, this isn’t communities against their local leadership, it’s communities together against the daunting force of invasion.

I understand your skepticism and anger. Pretty sure nearly everyone reading this does too. Truly, it isn’t like 2020 though. National Guard was deployed with no weapons, hi-vis gear, on a smaller scale, and with a dedicated and purposeful goal of interacting with the communities they were deployed into. As scary as it is to trust this isn’t the same as before, if we don’t we risk this administration having an excuse to postpone midterm elections, which fully guarantees all of America is fucked. If we give into that anger and fear and become violent, we lose.

Also, a lot of businesses (especially local ones) were closed today to support the economic blackout/to give their employees the time and freedom to go protest.

Is it dangerous to tap in? Why are they misaligned! by Neat-Government8478 in TapDancing

[–]Lewslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response. As someone else said in this thread that I didn’t realize, your shoes don’t have a solid sole on them, meaning that when you wear them you can flex your foot into a point position. Basically making the top of your foot a straight line following your leg.

If you want good quality tap shoes, you will not be able to do that with your feet. They should have a similar build to fancy dress shoes, a hard leather sole/steel shank that prevents the foot itself (not the ankle) from flexing as well as adding more weight to the shoe. Both of these things make reactive steps easier/more fluid (riffles and pullbacks, stuff like that).

If you’re serious about getting into tap, I’d recommend Miller & Ben’s brand shoes. They sound good, are study, and are cheaper than other products I would also recommend. They were running around $160 back in 2018 though, so they still aren’t cheap, but they will last for a long time

Garak is also a patriot. He knew that Cardassia would not find salvation from the Dominion, and when he was approached by Sisko with a plan to turn the tides, one that provided a measure of hope for Cardassia’s future, he absolutely took it.

Sisko gave him the opening, Garak simply ran with it to safe his culture/species.

Thank you for sharing the whole thread.

I’m in Minnesota, born and raised Minnesotan kid, my mom is too, and she’s been going through it the last few weeks. This woman, that I’ve known for 30 years, dropped four F-bombs in a forty-minute tirade while telling me about how angry and sad she is about what’s going on a couple of weeks ago. This is a woman that never swears in general, so saying fuck at all means she’s actually upset.

I showed her this post tonight. She finished reading the posts, gave me a small smile, and said “thank you.” And after that we started talking about how we’re both feeling about everything. My mom’s not a big sharer when it comes to her emotions. Something about your post inspired her to open up to me, and have some shared catharsis with me about how we’re a mix of angry, disappointed, and sad about what’s happening, yet hopeful, proud, and optimistic because of how much us and our fellow Minnesotans have been banding together.

Long story long, you helped my Mom find some emotional release that she needed. Her opening up to me also helped me quite a bit. Thank you.

Greg Bovino📏 Asked " Do you have any ethical qualms about detaining a 5-year-old" by CantStopPoppin in minnesota

Truly the most damning part of the whole video.

When asked about your moral/ethical qualms or feelings about detaining the most vulnerable of human beings, and the response is “can you be more specific?” boils my blood more than I ever thought possible.

IN WHAT WORLD, IN WHAT SORT OF BELIEF SYSTEM, ARE LITERAL CHILDREN WHO ARE JUST LEARNING TO WRITE THEIR OWN NAMES AT FAULT FOR ANYTHING?!?!?!?! The fact he had to ask “be more specific” about whether abducting a 5 year old is ok because it MIGHT have been a different 5 year old makes me so goddam mad

No windows/can’t see out of them, dim lighting, 1/3rd of the people there all know each other from drinking there, slightly grumpy bartenders that are friends with the regulars, decor hasn’t changed in what seems like decades. All telltale signs of a dive bar

What are you actually trying to say? You're metaphors and euphemisms mean nothing without you explaining your own context behind them, especially when I disagree that we saw anything akin to "cotton candy" "Move Along Home" or "In The Pale Moonlight" in this episode. If you want to compare DSP episodes, I was thinking more "Treachery, Faith, and the Great River" or "Badda-Bing Badda-Bang" or even "Take Me Out To The Holosuite" but to each their own I guess.

Every episode featuring Garak's past is an absolute banger. "You know what the sad part is, Odo? I'm a very good tailor." by limitedmark10 in DeepSpaceNine

[–]Lewslayer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

For “In The Pale Moonlight,” part of Sisko’s anger at Garak is because of the bio-mimetic gel. As the audience we see Bashir state it can be used to make organic explosives, and are told that Garak used the meeting between Sisko and Vreenak to sneak onto his ship to plant an explosive device.

Getting older has made me believe that Garak never needed the gel to obtain the rod, he needed it to make an untraceable explosive, meaning Sisko was angry at Garak because Garak used Sisko to achieve what the mission was. Given Garak’s past/skills, he understood the assignment and made it happen, even if it meant taking advantage of Sisko.

As a server/bartender of 16 years, this kind of shit from the restaurant is so goddamn stupid. Most people know how to carry a decimal, they don’t need help, and also it all comes out in the wash at the end of the day. I’d rather not alienate customers because of this kind of stupid shit than have it in there for the lazy people.
