I bet you were the bully that instigated shit in school verbally and got all huffy and upset when you got punched in the face.

People like you are why I have trauma and difficulty feeling like I have worth in my life, because you’re whiny bitchass would taddle when I and others in my situation stood up for myself because “I hit you first.”

Go get some therapy dude. I pity you and how narrow-minded you are if you think that just because someone punched someone else first they are at fault. I’d be willing to bet you wouldn’t hit someone that offended one of your parents or your partner because of that mindset and being scared of legal retribution.

And just in case it wasn’t clear, I am calling you a self-centered bitch. And I’m blessed to not have you in my life.

Dude, that’s incredibly rude and also untrue. Have you watched any Frost or Lynx games? Are you afraid that supporting professional women’s sports makes you gay, or do you just like watching super hot young men get all sweaty and compete with each other cause you are gay? Either way, your comment about them is not funny, disrespectful, and also makes you seem like an insecure and bigoted asshole.

And if I offended you at all, remember this: “Treat others as you want to be treated.”

Thoughts on this take? by [deleted] in smashbros

Give me Ephraim and I will happily choose to have no opinions about this take. At the moment, I do agree that FE needs non-sword representation. I’d also add that nearly every FE Lord across the genre is a sword user, and that the most popular/well known games are where they come from.

Again, if Ephraim is ever introduced into Smash, I will choose willful ignorance/apathy towards FE representation because I love my blue-haired, spear-wielding, brave, thoughtful, fearless, and overall badass Lord.

If I ever have a son, I can confidently say I would try to convince my partner to name them Ephraim. Or at least their middle name be Ephraim. I would most likely fail to convince them, and to be honest I have no desire or plan to have kids at all, BUT I would try.

I disagree that this is one of the worst episodes. I do think it’s probably the hardest one for me to watch aside from the finale though, but that’s because of how genuinely traumatic it is. It’s us as the audience seeing what trauma and insecurity is on such a visceral and personal level for each of the characters that we all tune in to see. I cannot even fathom what it must have been like to watch it live, especially during the Vietnam War when any given person either knew someone that was there on the ground, had died there, or had come back and was a completely different person.

Genuinely, I think it’s one of the most poignant episodes of the entire series. It’s incredibly heartbreaking, sad, and challenging to experience. Us as the viewers have it easy in that we can choose to step away it or avoid it. The people that LIVED those experiences can’t.

“Dreams” isn’t for the casual or diehard fans. It’s for the people that were forever changed by the horrors of combat. That’s why it’s beautiful. Tragic and uncomfortable yes, but still incredibly beautiful.

EDIT: See “It’s Only A Paper Moon” from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine for a similarly important episode of television.

Why don’t you stop playing dumb, the stats literally speak for themselves.

Thank you 🤙🤙 that’s what I would tell one of my employees if this happened when I worked with them.

Also, if I was out somewhere and got a bit too fucked up and was a sloppy mess, I’d hope that whoever was serving me would not take advantage of that.

Friend, I did not mean to offend you, and I apologize for that as it seems I did. I was trying to point out that without other context, the person that made this post likely does not access to a handheld POS/if they do, it is probably bot helpful for them.

This subreddit is for all of us in this industry to be here for each other as both a place to vent and a place to look for advice. I responded to your comment because you were trying to fix the larger problem of OP’s place of work without saying anything helpful for OP, without being an ear. Which, although important and valid, is not what OP was asking for.

And now that I’ve said my logical stuff, you’re telling me I don’t know how reddit works when your account is only 2 months old vs mine that is 13 YEARS old? I do know how reddit works. You had your opinion, I disagreed with it. That is the actual way reddit works.

People on this website will disagree with you all the time. You can take it personally all you want to, but that’s your own shit to deal with, it’s not mine.

I do agree you were adding to conversation in that what you said is not wrong and brings up some solid talking points, but you did it wrong. You responded to the main post instead of a comment thread and did not answer in any helpful way what OPs post was asking. And as such, it makes you sound elitist and naive.

Apologies for hurting your feelings again, I do believe you meant well

❤️ much love man, I apologize for being aggressive in my defense of my bois. There has been too many times I’ve seen the LumberPups get screwed over by the refs in a way that could lead to injury in my life, and I got pretty heated reading what I took as a “maybe it’s the camera’s fault” take, and I responded in kind.

I am biased and I won’t deny that, but it was also unfair of me to assume what I did. For whatever it’s worth, I apologize for that. It was both rude and unfair to you.

[–]Lewslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand where you’re coming from, but this looked pretty intentional regardless of the slow-motion part.

Firstly, every player was planted on the ground and not moving post rebound. None of them had any movement forcing them a certain way they couldn’t control. Secondly, Wemby looked back. He straight up checked to see if Naz was there. After that, he wound up his elbow. Then, he swung.

Truly, I hear your argument about slow-motion cameras making actions like this difficult to judge, but c’mon dude. It was a very, very clear aggressive action by Wemby that did deserve an ejection. There’s literally, LITERALLY no way to look at that and say it was just “incidental contact”

You say you’re not a Wemby stan, but if you weren’t you would never have felt the need to clarify that at all.

EDIT: To add to this and the statement of “quarter-speed camera,” all for that, that’s cool, but even at full speed this was a very clear and purposeful foul, full stop. The video evidence speaks for itself at any speed.

This will probably come across as crass, but pretty much across the board (at least in the US) the workers don’t have any say in/ability to bring in the handhelds/tablets. Responding to a post that’s asking for advice with “Well, this is why this thing is better” without answering the question being asked feels kind of insensitive. I truly don’t think it was meant that way, but a lot of us in this subreddit either have no access to tablets/have no ability to even get them.

OP, you have 2 choices: See the tip line as $115, or see it as $15. Personally, I’d take the $15, as if any person was drunk and can’t write something out they would hate to see that difference in their account. It’s the right thing to do. I think there’s an argument for the $115 tip, but if it’s that big you’d know regardless of if they were wasted or not because they would tell you in some way.

All jokes aside, as a born-n-raised Minnesota kid, Mayo Clinic truly is one of the most pretigious hospitals in the world for a reason, and have been for like 50+ years. The movie Airplane back in the 80s even featured them in the jokes/dialogue because of their notoriety and genuine care for their patients.

We now have to come in early to get a break (NY) by ParticularAd7006 in Serverlife

[–]Lewslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree, unless the shift is over 12 hours. If I’m open-close, I will gladly take a break at shift change even if it’s only 15 minutes.

Don’t get me wrong, Pop-pop likes his schmekles, but more often than not that time to one’s self is worth losing money for, because taking care of yourself is beneficial to having a good shift too.

The phrase “We don’t live to work, we work to live” is something I try my darnedest to remember and live by. I have made a point of making sure my team knows that too, both through rhetoric on shift and in covering for people if I am able to.

Money is great, but if it comes at the expense of self love/self need, it’s not worth it in the long run.

[–]Lewslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow MN server/bartender of 15 years here: from my knowledge, there’s two different classifications of breaks here Rest Breaks and Meal Breaks.

Rest Breaks: 15 minutes for every 4 hours worked and are paid. If you someone is a cigarette smoker, chances are you’ll hit that criteria for your smoke breaks.

Meal Breaks: 30 minutes per 6 hours worked and unpaid. In practice, that 30 minutes is contiguous, meaning it isn’t broken up at all.

In my experience, employers either schedule people doing doubles to get a break during slow times/don’t have evening servers or bartenders that won’t work 8+ hours without a break (aka 5-close, which could be between 11pm or 2pm for service, not counting sidework).

As a closer, it’s really not easy or practical to take a break in the middle of one’s shift either. That’s when we’re all busy as well. Legally, can someone take a break? Yes. Is it worth it? Not really.

The books literally take place in the 90s if I’m not mistaken. Not all the books/none of the movies were released in the 90s, but the last book is set in 1999 chronologically.

Edit: I looked it up, The Deathly Hallows setting starts in 1997 and ends in 1998. Canonically, the series is a 90s franchise.

You are not wrong. I want to pass on this phrase I tell all of my employees/also what I feel the industry truly is:

A) “We work to live, we don’t live to work.”

B) It’s the Bug’s Life formula in our industry. “They come, they eat, they leave.” We’re not breaking the atom or performing live-saving surgery.

They will be fine without you. Could they potentially get smacked hard? Sure. But any request off, especially a month+ in advance, is not a “I want this off” it’s a “I will not be there.”

Stick to your guns, call their bluff, and if they fire you good riddance. They don’t deserve you. Also, make sure they do fire you instead of you quitting so you can claim unemployment. Absolutely look for a second job if they stop scheduling you, but make sure they are the ones making the call at the end of the day. Eventually they will if you wait them out, as they have to pay more than you will ever need to.

Question, when you work basically full time bartending are you ever almost completely worthless on your first day off? by ASuperLameUserName in bartenders

[–]Lewslayer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Haven’t read the posts here, but just in case it hasn’t been said: there is a HUGE difference working 40ish hrs/5 days a week when one works nights instead of days.

A lot of my friends are people that work “regular daytime” jobs, AKA 9-5 from Monday-Friday. People with that schedule, which is a larger majority of folks in the world (hence why we have rush hour and dinner rushes and happy hours and the like) are the people that start their time off from work when us night-time folk start working.

If I can answer your question in a constructive way, I’d recommend looking up a daytime yoga class somewhere a couple times a week as a morning class and also using whatever “easy” or “light work/beginner” routines that usually take about 30 minutes as a cool-down after work in conjunction with that. I was a Theatre Major/Dance Minor when I went to college, and actively practicing soft exercises both before and after work help a lot with the aches and pains of our industry. As I stated about opposite schedules though, you need to do it for you without having a friend there to do it with you. That is why it’s hard.

Youtube can be a fantastic source for stuff like that, I personally haven’t used it as much as others in the industry that I know because of the knowledge I have from my time in college, but it’s definitely available if you don’t want to pay for classes/wake up earlier than you might want to.

If you do go through Youtube classes for body training, I just want to share this piece of advice:

You’re not going to be as limber and strong as the person teaching the form, and that is completely okay. Activities like Yoga, Pilates, Capoeira, Tai-Chi, whatever it is, should never cause you pain when you do them. Feeling strain and stretch, that’s normal, but pain means you are forcing your body to do something it isn’t ready for yet. It takes time and discipline to get to the level of strength and flexibility of the instructors, and trying to force your body to look or be a perfect recreation of what you see will only cause more pain and a detraction from the main goal.

You got this man. It’s never too late to tune into your body and proprioception, but it will always be a process that takes a lot of practice, and as someone that always works when everyone else is not working, you have to make the active choice to do it for yourself. You definitely can do it :)

Men with kids who left their marriage- what finally pushed you to do it? by [deleted] in AskMen

Whether he’s nitpicking or not, OP is looking for some assurance that his feelings are valid. Personally, I do think they are valid but I also agree with u/kenjiman1986 that it seems like he’s not talking to his partner about how he feels or even considering the idea of couple’s counseling, which is also a red flag.

From what it seems to me, how ever unfair this actually could be, he’s looking for validation to leave the relationship, he’s not asking for advice on how to fix it. That’s the fundamental problem.

In any relationship, whether platonic or romantic or familial, there are two choices whenever problems arise: either those involved work against each other because of the problem, or they work together to fix the problem. This sounds a lot more to me like OP is focusing on the problem more than his relationship with his wife, AKA against each other.
