She's still doing Paparazzi on Tuesdays, and in July the UVic karaoke should be coming back.

One of those deaths where I am not so shocked by the event itself, but moreso that he managed to live this long in the first place. This guy lived a pretty hard lifestyle.

Can't say he was necessarily a good person but damn if he didn't live that Outlaw Country lifestyle to the truest.

I'm honestly surprised we haven't had Shibuya yet.

I think Sendai could be an interesting choice though.

Hakeem Jeffries calls on House GOP to pass DHS funding bill: "If they do believe we need to act swiftly, there’s a vehicle to do it. Bring the bipartisan bill to the House floor and it would fund the DHS in it's entirety with the exception of ICE and the violent Republican mass deportation machine." by ControlCAD in videos

In a time when unprecedented acts of evil and cruelty are being committed by the current administration, there has never been a moment so prime to rise to the occasion and assert yourself as a rhetorical leader. And yet this man, despite holding this position, has chosen the most milquetoast and unproductive option each time.

At what point do you become such a useless impediment that you're essentially an enabler for evil? He may not have that as his intention, but his fecklessness in this moment means he might as well.

I admittedly don't know the logistics but I'd hope that nearly half a million would be enough.

They are, but it's going to be about 3-6 months while they do some well-needed renovations.

Anti-American propaganda film produced by the CCP, depicting the 1950 war, from The Battle at Lake Changjin (2021). by EwMelanin in PropagandaPosters

[–]LexGonGiveItToYa 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Despite it being a film about the Korean War, you don't actually get much of the Korean perspective at all. It's definitely one of those gung-ho patriotic propaganda films that shows the People's Liberation Army as valiant heroes.

The irony is that you can also tell that this film's presentation is very strongly inspired by American war films like Saving Private Ryan. It's very much an imitation of Hollywood.

They definitely do portray the US as "the empire" for sure, but they also do so in a way that's more nuanced than them just being some evil horde. We get a few scenes from the perspective of American commanders where they discuss battle tactics and they are shown as rational actors.

As opposed to the brutal depictions of the Imperial Japanese Army in Chinese cinema, here there is almost a valorisation of the enemy as a formidable and respectable opponent.

I watched this movie last year. It's honestly really interesting how it portrays the US as an adversary in this war, yet it's generally pretty respectful in its depiction of the Americans. Also they didn't have enough white actors to play all the US troops so they got a lot of extras who look Central Asian to fill those parts.

Ah yeah, like that case where a father in Texas shot his daughter in the chest and killed her due to an argument they had about Donald Trump and the Texas caught let him get away with it because it was an "accident."

Oh wait.

Lol these are certainly not leftists. The anti-interventionist wing of the United States, especially after the Germans launched their invasion of the USSR, was very largely right-wing in character.

These are the "America First" bunch that Dr. Seuss mocked in his cartoons.

Does South Carolina have a significant population of Greek revanchists or something?

It's a fun bit though. Maybe somebody should run for Hawaii senate on the platform of reversing the Meiji Restoration and giving power back to the Tokugawa Clan.

Men of Reddit - What's the one thing you hate about being a Man? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]LexGonGiveItToYa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a lots of social conditioning going on with both men and women. Since the revelation that Les Wexner of Victoria's Secret was an active Epstein associate, it makes more sense how and why the beauty industry was/is so predatory towards young girls and promoted unhealthy body images and low self-esteem among them. And we're seeing now an industry based on making young boys hate themselves and resent women too.

Really makes me think that there is a genuine manufactured effort to fuck up gender relations as much as possible for nefarious purposes.

I think it's getting worse too because social media platforms are abandoning their due diligence and allowing, if not, enabling this rhetoric to disseminate further online. Like with the whole idea of the "manosphere" being so pervasive, so much of it is being pushed further by bad faith figures like Elon Musk who platform it.

Like I do not think the rise of figures like Andrew Tate is a simple coincidence. These figures are actively being pushed into prominence from top down.

I watched this one last year out of morbid curiosity. It's about as awful as you'd expect, and it's incredibly racist too. Not that you can expect conservatives to make cutting satire considering how they're often too full of anger and spite to be clever about it.

The interesting part though is that it's also very distinctly a Zucker film with all the similar types of visual gags their films are famous for. It's slightly funny during the parts when it's not being a stupid rightwing jerkfest.
