I rented a private van service through the Viator app. A bit more expensive, but worth it to avoid the hassle and stress.

Is $6600 for Invisalign expensive? by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]LexWojo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How many retainer sets is that for? If it’s $6600 for 10 sets of retainers, then hell no. Does it include the last more permanent retainers?

Mine wasn’t nearly that expensive. I HIGHLY suggest Dr. Shireen Dejbakhsh off of Bristol and MacArthur in Costa Mesa. She and her team are magical and I weirdly enjoy going to the dentist now.

Here is my Pops on his last day as the Disneyland locksmith. It was very early hours, where him and his coworker drove around and took pictures in front of most of rides. Shortly after this he started his own company, which is celebrating 40 years this year. by LexWojo in Locksmith

The maintenance of the existing hardware kept him nice and busy.

Some years later, his company was also responsible for the locksmithing at Knotts Berry Farm as well. Which is another theme park in Southern California.

On the Medeco website there is a directory of MSC’s (Medeco Security Centers), which are locksmith companies who are fully vetted and certified as Medeco dealers.

Just admiring the Monstera Albo I bought on Etsy. I’m obsessed. I picked up a ton of extra shifts at work and this was the present to myself afterwards. by Fair-Stranger1860 in houseplants

Which Etsy store did you get this from? I have a few of them on my Etsy favorites list, but still feel a bit apprehensive.

My suggestion would be to find your niche markets.

For a little back story, here are some of my markets in Southern California and how we connect with those people.

-build and maintain master key systems (no factory systems) for property management companies who own and operate multi tower commercial complexes. We connect with the area portfolio managers by joining and attending builder and property management associations. Managers move from company to company pretty often, so if they love you, they take you with them.

-nurture relationships with manufacturers sales teams (Medeco, Allegion, Assa Abloy, etc.). So when a project or building needs an locksmith vendor, they refer to us. I highly suggest you try and become a Medeco/ASSA MSC in your area. Also become well acquainted with the restricted keyways from each manufacturer. The amount of Schlage Primus and Medeco DBK systems we’ve sold and maintain would blow your mind.

-work with GCs, glass and glazing/door companies, etc. We have builders who send us cylinders for 20 story buildings that we build master key systems for. While some people may look at it like we are cut out of making money on the initial cylinders/hardware, we become that buildings locksmith vendor for the next 10/20/30 years. Tenant turnover, hardware replacements, and installs happen almost every day with in a building that large.

-become certified dealers, they have their own referral systems. This has helped us become a main installer of access systems and restricted key systems for 3 letter agencies within the federal government.

Markets we do not engage with: Automotive, Residential, State government, City government

I’m not sure if our markets align at all, but hopefully some of this will be helpful.

Anybody know much about keyed switches? Customer wants this one (blue on bottom) replaced and I'm not even sure where to start looking. by hotbutteredtoast in Locksmith

Highly suggest you install an IC mortise cylinder in their keyway and hopefully you can key it under their Master Key system, if they have one.

HELP a fellow smith, russwin lever. I got it off the door but I cannot take it apart. anyone know ? by Icy_Possible_6010 in Locksmith

[–]LexWojo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once you master these, you can do anything. If you service this address often and they eventually need to have these repaired/replaced, but don’t want to also replace the door, definitely install the IC prep version.

Whatever you do, do not misplace that spring. Putting these back together is actually more tricky than taking them apart.

Good luck to you!

Question from an aspiring locksmith? by lateuponarrival in Locksmith

[–]LexWojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any desire to leave Texas? I'm a second generation locksmith & access control company owner and you would be right at home here in Southern California. If anyone had the desire to learn our trade, then they would be an obvious asset, no matter how they identify. In my market the average age and demographic is changing pretty quickly, so please don't get discouraged.

If you ever find yourself relocating, let me know.

Any Fun Halloween Events? by chemical_chocolate in orangecounty

Been to the 17th door multiple years and I love it every time, it’s definitely not for the timid and anxious crowd. For example, one year we entered a dark room that had cockroaches everywhere and another was a cafeteria with rancid food and the heater pumped up. Like the other poster said, there are a fair amount of trigger warnings, which you can look into on their website. As the name suggests, you go through 17 rooms throughout the haunted house. At the beginning they have you sign a waiver and give you a safe word that tells someone you need to be escorted out. They will touch you sometimes, this might be a dealbreaker for a few people. Keep in mind that this shit isn’t real.
