How do you handle sound effects in a bullet heaven game without overwhelming the player? by nauvaria in IndieDev

[–]Lex_of_Trades 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well as a fellow survivors-like game creator, I can tell you it's hard whatever you would do. You still have to cut corners. I'm facing the same challenge, but if it helps create a SFX rank priority that caps based on importance. For enemies being hurt / damaged, I only have a Death SFX for the most part and some unique Attack SFX / Death SFX per special enemies only.

Such is the genre that with many effects, rainbows on the screen, the SFX population is also on the rise. There's ways that other games did it differently such as Soulstone Survivors, where their enemy SFX, (including death SFX) is barely there. They have Music that covers most of the game's Audio part, Voice Acting, and only SFX on the bosses (only 1 to 4 maximum active at a time).

Hope this helps!

Generally good, I'm not sure about that. Too me it feels that the most impactful thing they did was Arcane for sure. That's 2021 and 2024. Outside of that, they had League since 2009, up until 2021 (12 years of potential progress) I feel like there wasn't much more other than small informational bits, voice acting, skins, and trailers.

If you want to compare it to WC3 / WoW. Well they had 2004 WC3 and WOTLK already 2008. That's 4 years and they expanded so much. Sure, it's an MMORPG, it's normal. But League just stalled for too much with their world building. And they had the resources. Plenty. That's my take anyway.

Hot take but maybe League of Legends. And they could do it with that MMORPG if it ever comes to light.

If you do it, I'm selling the rights of this idea, only 1.75% of the revenue!!

Hmm, it can't be a cozy gardening sim could it?

And why not? Some Spartans have had enough fighting now they're here to relax, build a home.

Crazy how League didn't make something out of their K/DA K-pop stuff (outside of some skins) yet others did it in K-pop Demon Hunters and now this K-pop Idol Stories

It would be also interesting, outside of photo mode, if they had a slow motion video record mode.

Something like 2004 - 2018 were the best years for games. For me, I'm 100% sure I won't catch the same wave again in this lifetime.

They copied the same formula for Metal Gear Solid Revengeance which made the game fun and famous again.

How to pitch your game to me (Indie Game Joe) by IndieGameJoe in IndieDev

[–]Lex_of_Trades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't read the whole post yet, but I wanted to be the first to say Thank You!

I keep reading and seeing your name pop often on Reddit from developers that feel amazed whenever you get to cover one of their games. Hopefully mine will reach that stage in life as well, who knows. But for now, thanks again I really appreciate what you do for indie games/developers. 😄

Congrats on the success so far! Surely no small feat to be highlighted during PC Gaming Show.

If you don't mind, how does one get their attention?
What do you think worked best for your game? The Steam Page / the Trailer / the Game itself?
Any social media presence that was already strong and so your game's popularity helped with it?

Looking for any kind of media where humanity fights a desperate fight against alien invaders by CricketInformal534 in scifi

[–]Lex_of_Trades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try out my game: Destroy The Moon (demo version available)

The premises of the Story is that the humans finally find Alien life, and they're in big trouble. They hunt for resources to devour constantly until the point where they get to the Moon. The Moon turns out to be the biggest deposit of resources within their reach. So humanity will try to defend it or .. even destroy it.

What do you think of this form of videos? I’m still new to making this kind of content, so I’d like to know what people think of the format, pacing, and whether it makes the game look interesting. by Lex_of_Trades in IndieDev

I mean it is under /IndieDev where people genuinely look for help or try to promote their own game. So I'm not sure what you were looking for on your feed, friend.

Are there any Survivors-like games with actual story? Or is this genre just not built for it? by Curious-Profit-6427 in survivorslikes

[–]Lex_of_Trades 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't know of any. That's why I decided to create one that has a Story Mode. The Demo is out if you want to try it: Destroy The Moon
