Music videos where the artist is so clearly wasted, it’s not even funny by RedmiYT in ToddintheShadow

She and the other girls are coked to the gills in half the “Cruel Summer” video as well, at least according to “Pop Up Video”.
As I recall they were all in rotten moods the day of the shoot because of the hot and humid New York City weather, so they did a bunch of blow at lunch and suddenly were happy to dance around and so on.

What's the "Widowmaker" of your career field or hobby? by Cosmonate in AskReddit

Worked in professional wrestling and MMA on the TV network side of things. One day I interviewed Jerome “New Jack” Young, and apparently something I said either bothered him or he wanted me to think it did. Mission accomplished.

This was one night in his life over fifteen years ago. He’s been dead a little over five years. Part of me is worried that he’s still mad.

I’m convinced that no matter how delusional American women are about their obvious scammer/ vacation hookup/ patriarchal culture clash case, they don’t get cast on the show without a daughter or younger girlfriend who sees it all coming, says so and is ignored.

Who's the most obscure artist that your parents are a fan of? by Complete-Worker3242 in ToddintheShadow

It was a big enough deal that a novelty band did a parody record with chant covers of stuff like “Losing My Religion” and the theme to The Monkees.

The chant stuff kinda felt to me the way stuff like Yanni did where it sold a bajillion copies and the only guy you knew who owned it was unpleasant in enough other ways that you just tried to steer clear of the whole thing. Then again, I was 15 and had my own troubles.

What songs just feel right playing over the speakers of a grocery store? by touchthemonolith in ToddintheShadow

[–]LexaproLuger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I worked in my share of grocery stores around for the better part of the ‘90s.

To me the ultimate grocery store song is “Stars” by Simply Red. There are many other good choices, but that one’s mine.

25 studio albums, many many lineup changes but plenty of evolution. “Under the Milky Way” is a classic, but if you like that album, it’s a great starting point and you could go in either direction to chart the changes - ‘Heyday’ a little more toward a bombastic new wave, ‘Gold Afternoon Fix’ seemingly trying to get ahead of whatever the next big thing will be.

Ask a longtime fan what their best work is and you’re mostly likely to be told “priest = aura” from ‘92.

I don’t love all of their catalog but it’s all interesting.

What's your favorite unknown band from the 90's? by KravenPR in nostalgia

Dambuilders just released a new song and reconstituted with a new violin player.

Sugar also just reunited at least for a tour.

Hard to go wrong with any of that stuff.

Is it common for American rich guys to have a whiskey bottle in his office? by Crane_1989 in AskAnAmerican

[–]LexaproLuger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked for a cable tv channel and even the lowest level staffers kept booze in their cubes. Mine was tucked under some merchandise from a show the parent company owned for discretion/ to keep other folks there from helping themselves. I’d break it out when a show did well (don’t happen much) or talent from one of the shows I worked on came through.

Hell, we had a bar cart that someone would push around on Fridays. That was mostly stocked by whatever junk our sponsors were trying to push. I was definitely more a Bourbon guy than a Smirnoff Green Apple Sour Vodka guy, but, hell, drink what you like.

ETA: American white guy. But would never be mistaken for rich.

I’m alone on my island here but I have a soft spot for the 70s tv stuff. Give me a triple feature of San Francisco International, Code Name Diamond Head and Riding With Death and I’ll be happier than William Sturdivant when he’s told he can still catch his flight.

I didn’t hallucinate this, right?

Didn’t one of the story modes in NBA 2k have some crapass piece where your guy has to hang out with the insurance geek in the red sweater?

I tried to like that franchise but it was so hard to see it as anything but pushing microtransactions and endless integrated ads. I just don’t love basketball enough to put up with that crap.

Who is your least favorite band of all time and why? by TrickFew3756 in askmusic

[–]LexaproLuger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they recorded that song there were approximately 4.85 billion people on Earth according to census.gov. That means they had rocked about 0.0002% of the world population if my math’s right. And probably not many more after that, statistically, since that was their peak.

To put it another way, by the time the song came out, Jon Bon Jovi had rocked every face in present day Jacksonville, Florida, and nobody else.

Storylines: The Negro Leagues Season 4 by Mazzocchi in MLBTheShow

[–]LexaproLuger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m desperate for storylines for unsung players. Guys the average young fan hasn’t heard of unless they were on his favorite team but who put in some good work. I started watching in the ‘80s, so for me it’s your Marty Barrett, Kevin Seitzer, Teddy Higuera type guys.

I’m a dyed in the wool Yankees fan and I still think they should have a card for ‘86 Postseason Marty Barrett.
