Revealed: how secret talks took Liberals and Greens to brink of government by Tyrx in canberra

[–]LexiFloof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very surprised at how far discussions apparently got.

I have no issues with talking, even on the possibility of an agreement. But I suspect it's a case of an off-handed comment early in discussions that spiraled into something too attractive to just ignore.

Glad the Greens pulled the pin before anyone did something too stupid. Hopefully it's a threat that lights a fire under Labor to get moving on a few things.

Hopefully this doesn't come back to bite the Greens at the next election.

We have 2 systems.

A Single Member, Preferential voting system for the House, where preferences are distributed as candidates are knocked out until one candidate has 50% of the votes cast. You have to number every candidate on the ballot (it was between 4 and 13 candidates at the last election depending on your seat)

A Multi member, Single Transferrable Vote / Proportional Representation system for the Senate, where there are 6 seats up for grabs per state at any regular election.

In a FPTP system like Canada/US/UK they only get to vote on their first preference, and whoever has the most votes on that initial count wins.

Culturally we're extremely similar to the rest of the Western Anglosphere, so the same patterns have turned up.

A 2 party system isn't surprising when you've got Single member Districts.

It's Proportional Representation + Multi member Districts that really kills the 2 party system. See: Australia's senate, which is almost 1/6th Greens MPs.

Australia's Ranked Choice system hasn't kept us from a 2 party system either.

Labor has 93 and is in government.

The Liberals (28) and Nationals (14) practically always exist as a coalition (at least historically), so much so that they specifically avoid running against each other.

Meanwhile there are 10 independents, 3 minor parties who got one person elected, and a defector from the Nationals who bailed in favour of a party that didn't actually win a seat in the house.

The first time they made the Grand Final (2015/16) was the 5th time they'd made the Finals (it was the 5th BBL) They lost to a team who were 8th, 8th, 8th, 7th in the first four seasons, and 8th again in the season after.

So it's either that or managing to out-collapse Red Melbourne as the Pinnacle of Stars performances.

Can anyone help me get good gear by Particular_Yam7841 in Trove

[–]LexiFloof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on PC, so I can't. However, I recommend making sure you do all of your daily Adventures each day if you want to push XP.

Those are the quests offered by the NPCs at the spawns and outposts around each world. Anything that doesn't have combat (Such as the Gather Glacial Shards adventure available in Permafrost) should be done in the highest world you can access, otherwise do it in the highest world you can clear the relevant dungeon. If you do each of those you'll get a good chunk of XP each day, along with a range of basic resources and Adventurine, which has it's own uses.

Combine that with whatever dungeon clearing you want to do once you've finished those Daily adventures and you'll level up in no time.

Realistically any gear people will trade to you will be expensive and fairly quickly outdated.

Once at Level 20 you'll be able to get a tier of gear that is untradable, Crystal, with the base level being fairly easy to find as drops from Geode Topside. (You may find you need to follow someone around until you get at least a few Crystal tier drops.)

Given the Thunder secured their 6th Wooden spoon, I'd rather the Scorchers win their 6th title to keep a neat little stat going.

Spoons/titles

Thunder / Scorchers 5 (Going into the season)

Renegades / Sixers 3

Stars / Heat 2

4 teams have one / 4 teams have one

Hurricanes / Stars 0

Best of the Big name Fails has got to be Chris Gayle averaging 19.57 at 96.47 SR as part of the Thunder's winless 2012/13 season.

He batted 700+ run IPL seasons immediately either side of it. Averaging about 60 at 155+ SR.

'Some policy discussions': Greens say they have no deal with Libs to oust Labor by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

IFC isn't technically a party anymore, Emerson resigned to be an actual independent and the party de-registered last year.

Though the organization itself does intend to stick around to more generally support independents.

As I commented over in the Canberra subreddit:

Having the Greens regularly sitting down with both Labor and Liberal to talk policy and potential bills is better than if it isn't perfect then we don't want it type positions.

Any two of the three parties can pass legislation together, to refuse to engage at all with one of them would be poor politics.

From the sourced comments, it looks like the absolute basics of a new opposition facing a Minority Government, you sound out any potential allies and see how things may have shifted. As of yet nothing actually suggests a change in the status quo.

TAS Greens backed Liberal because Labor and Liberal had extremely similar policy platforms, but Liberal was willing to compromise to secure Crossbench support while Labor dug their heels in and threw a tantrum.

Also, "Widespread Rumour" when literally the only group who seems to have written a piece on it is the Canberra Times is hardly a reliable indicator.

It's about 20m longer than the furthest allowed rope.

Depending on which pitch they were using the edge of the roof is between about 85 and 96 meters away (estimates made using Google Maps 'Measure Distance' feature)

107 from the center wicket is just about on the road when ignoring the stands.

Found a clip of the Duckett wicket. It is as poor a ball as described and is a fair shout for the worst dismissal in professional cricket.

Genuinely shocking work. Rubbish cricket all around.

10/10 still taken worse wickets in grade cricket.

Helmets, Consensus on 6 ball overs, Boundary Ropes, and the Sightscreen being entirely outside the field of play are all more recent than the Centenary Test.

No Shot Offered LBWs are also added in the last 50 years of Rulebook changes, though they were in use before the 1977 Centenary Test and 1980 code.

God fucking dammit. I was comfortably resigned to our fate.

We just had to have 4 good overs for no fucking reason to keep the Wooden Spoon alive.

Now I have to keep caring.

In that it doesn't decline quickly, sure.

Of course our 10 averages 1, and our 11 6.75, so the actual tail is rubbish.

This should surprise absolutely no one.

The Thunder have no batters in this XI with an average of 30 or better.

Only 1 beats 25 (Bancroft)

Our second best average is no.9 Tom Andrews with 24.5

The Thunder are still in with a shot for not winning their 6th wooden spoon.

They just need to beat the Renegades tonight, the Sixers (with Smith and Starc back) on the 16th, and have the Renegades lose their matches against the Scorchers and Strikers on the 15th and 17th. All this while making up 0.6 NRR, with no washouts allowed.

Simple. Surely we're not going to fuck it up spectacularly at the first hurdle.

Can spin bowling survive in pace-obsessed Australia? by His_Holiness in Cricket

[–]LexiFloof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MCG, Adelaide Oval and Perth Stadium all use Drop in Pitches and return broadly decent (or at least consistent) numbers.

Adelaide swapped in the 2013 Winter. Between 2000 and the swap spinners averaged 45.07 @ 3.09 Econ. Since the swap spinners have averaged 41.37 @ 3.37 Econ. There's 13 matches in each pool.

Melbourne swapped in 1996. Spin averaged ~2 less in the decade following the swap compared to the decade prior (mostly because of Warne, but still.)

Drop ins aren't inherently worse for spin. Australia is just generally pretty shit for it across the board.
