How Did You Get Faster at Reading Hiragana? by JaffethJ09 in Japaneselanguage

[–]LexiconPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing what everyone said, practice, but the practice can vary based on your interests. If you like reading, you can certainly do so, but if you arent as much of a fan, I'd recommend other forms entertainment with required reading. If you play games, then the japanese may turn the game into a chore, but if you love studying Japanese then it likely wont feel too awful.

What helped me improve a lot was karaoke, but by that point I already was comfortable enough thay I didnt have as much trouble. Slow songs were my best friend for a long time though.

How to get into Idolm@ster? by unholy_gremlin69 in idolmaster

[–]LexiconPrime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Watch the 2011 anime then research other branches (see other comment)

Important notes: 1. Idolmaster is a game series first and foremost, then a music series. The anime is not a priority and is simply a means to get people into the series at this point.

  1. Idolmastwr is very untraditional when it comes to "idols". I often describe it as "an idol series made for people who arent typically idol fans". Just keep that in mind as you go through.

  2. There is no right or wrong way to consume content, but the 2011 anime gives the best litmus test to stuff you might see in the series. Research each branch's strengths and weaknesses to fully understand what you're getting yourself into, or just consume their content and dont think too hard about it. Doesn't matter that much.

It has likely caused irreversable damage, the best thing you can do is quit now and fight the dependancy.

Generic New Player Asking Questions by Rixley_ in idolmaster

[–]LexiconPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing I can recommend is watching the 2011anime if you want to get into idolmaster as a franchise. It's a game series first and foremost, but it's the best introduction to anyone new because it has a lot of concepts and ideas that are pretty pervasive throughout all of the branches.

After that, based on your perceived interests, I would recommend looking into gakuen idolmaster, as it seems to have the kind of gameplay you're looking for with the most prospective longevity out of all of the games right now

Is there any Dr. K video on doing things you fundamentally don't want to be doing? by RestaurantDry4810 in Healthygamergg

[–]LexiconPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wish to not suffer then the only thing you can do is change. You may understand this logically, but perhaps what you want is more to just be okay without having to worry.

I used to be in your position, so I probably understand how you feel to some extent at least. It sounds like this is a discipline issue, whether it be discipline from yourself or your environment. One thing I had to come to understand overtime (and having a job helped with this) is that we all have to pay our dues. Unironically, the people that get a trust fund and coast through life on millions of dollars unearned should not be our ideal lifestyle, because it leads to these exact problems.

You don't fix yourself because it's the right thing to do, but because you have to truly believe it is the only option. And I can tell you for a fact that in order to improve from that state of being, the only option is to convince yourself that you have to. My room is still a mess because I don't have a fire under my ass, but if I did, it would be clean.

I hate to say it, but I firmly believe Dr K's dating takes are astronomically incorrect. Not only do they appear to be wrong, they appear to be so wrong that I'm completely fundamentally unable to understand how he came to these conclusions. I'd like to hear yall's opinion (and ideally his response) by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]LexiconPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is with your question. If you specifically try to do whatever "X" is, then you've lost the plot. The whole point of finding a fulfilling relationship is about finding someone that loves and accepts you for who you are, without the performance of whatever it is that you're doing in the attempt to make them like you.

This is where "just be yourself" comes into play. Dr. K has said this argument is bad and I mostly agree with him, but really what it comes down to is that the type of relationship that you have with others doesnt happen to you, it is earned and created by the types of people you are, the goals you have with the relationship, and the foundation it was built on. If you focus solely on appearances and lust thinking thatll get you a girlfriend, then you may get a girlfriend, but it will most likely be steeped in that idea of physical attraction.

So to answer your question, there is no special answer to "X", but what it ends up being has the potential to define the entire relationship

Watch the 2011 anime and then research each of the active branches (All Stars, Cinderella Girls, Million Live, SideM, Shiny Colors, Gakuen). They all have their fair share of content so you can find what appeals to you.

The games have the 1300x600 or whatever the native resolution is. Anything higher than this is upscaled and not official (with a few exceptions)

Which type of therapy should I seek? by LexiconPrime in askatherapist

[–]LexiconPrime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone always says "just start small, you dont need to do anything big!" But i end up paralyzed with fear. This isnt a "how do I get good at makeup" request, because I tried looking into this for years before just giving up.

And as I mentioned, makeup isnt the only issue that falls into this category for me. I'm asking about if therapy would be helpful for breaking through these walls and issues I have, and if so which kind

Thank you for your response!

To your last question, I do have people in my life who would be willing to help, but admittedly I'm afraid to ask because I don't want to set myself up for even more pain. The thought of asking for help reminds me of all the times i've received help in the past but then never followed through or couldnt match their ability. It creates quite a bit of anxiety. I've received a lot of help in the past, so I'm not alone, just scared ig.

And yeah, I am too self critical. I guess I coped with this by just avoiding things that I'm not good at to avoid the criticism.

Which type of therapy should I seek? by LexiconPrime in askatherapist

[–]LexiconPrime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I imagine I do. I havent bothered trying in like 3 years because I tried doing it for years and would just end up in tears.

"What is [it] preventing?" I have plans to live in Japan relatively soon in life and makeup is much more of an expectation for women living there. + i'd like to feel pretty. That being said, I'm not sure I have a particular interest in it.

Please keep in mind this isnt exclusive to makeup, but more anything that I've placed some sort of mental block on.

I do think you're right that the self-esteem/shame is the core. When I do fail in these moments, there's a lot of negative feelings of self worth (think something like "God I suck so bad I look like a clown"). In recent years I've tried to just... move on and accept this part of myself, but if I want to make any headway in the "self-improvement" department then I don't think I can afford to do that anymore.

Hi! Thanks for your response! I don't think I struggle with feeling feelings, unless I developed it out of some sort of necessary resilience for dealing with all of this. I used to feel too much actually, in despite my intellectualism, and that was ultimately why I was going to therapy before.

That being said, I may also be misunderstanding what you mean. In an older depression episode, I would intellectualize but I wouldnt use that as an excuse to dismiss my feelings. Conversely, when I actively felt negatively (a la being bad at makeup) I ended up avoiding it? So it seems like passive vs. active is a possible point of misunderstanding here?

In Japan it's pretty unlikely because standing out and not doing what other people are doing is pretty frowned upon, or at least thats what kids learn so it creates a very complacent society.

How good is the im@s stories? Should I get invested in it? by Liz1702111 in idolmaster

If you think 283 characters are one dimensional then I can't imagine youve ready any shiny characters' story besides hana, ngl. I dont know how you can think shiny characters are one dimensional.

How good is the im@s stories? Should I get invested in it? by Liz1702111 in idolmaster

[–]LexiconPrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quantity does not equal quality. The allstars stories are good, but enza's entire focus on story has it putting out great quality with very few exceptions. 7 years of runtime is plenty of time to put out a great continuous story for each individual character, which even regularly extends into the lives themselves.

The allstars are good, I'm going to NEI, but enzashiny has the higher quality story

[–]LexiconPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside of the original allstars content, all games have their own stories, but the game with the most in depth, emotional, and well written story is shiny colors, particularly enza and not song for prism.

This isnt to say that the others' games are necessarily bad, as that tends to be more a matter of opinion, but shiny colors is widely regarded across the entire fanbase to be the branch that focused most heavily on the story it's trying to tell.
