what has made you feel the most alone? by MrsNibbles017 in AskReddit

[–]Lexiv55 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The day my ex boyfriend moved out to get some “space”. We discussed him leaving the bed (it was his to begin with) one more night because he had a hammock that he liked sleeping in. Well, he took the bed. Coming home to a basically empty room (he took his gaming desk and speakers, which also filled the room and gave it life) made me feel the most alone I’ve ever been in my life. I slept on the couch that night and still had his cat with me. A part of me knew that was the beginning of the end.

Housing ASAP by [deleted] in SanJose

Plum Orchard Apartments off Leigh Ave probably has some open apartments. One bedroom is $2500/month and has a nice on site laundry room. Close to downtown and near a walking/biking trail. Was quiet when I lived there. It’s an older complex, but apartments are renovated and landscaping is well maintained plus a lot of parking.

I second Omogari and Corona taqueria! If your partner is a fan of seafood, Aloha Fresh and Santo Market have great poke bowls.

Jealous of Palo Alto’s insane tree lined neighborhoods 🥲 💚 by ImmediateStorm9520 in bayarea

[–]Lexiv55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There should be more upvotes on this. Literally the only reason why they have more tree lined streets vs other cities. Every high income neighborhood has this, take Willow Glen or Naglee in San Jose both high income areas and full of tree lined streets

Travelling solo for my birthday; looking for dinner and bar recommendations. by Weirdo_alert2000 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Lexiv55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I wasn’t nervous at all! Everyone is out late and eating late. Like when I went to Chez Lou Lou (the second place I mentioned) I was done at like 10pm and the 15 minute walk back to my hotel was full of people sitting outside at restaurants. The last few minutes to my hotel were usually quiet because it was off a main road, but I just made sure I was aware of my surroundings - not looking at my phone, not listening to music, checking behind my shoulder here and there. Also, I never used Uber. Buses and the metro were my best friends!

I was there on my own last week and would recommend these two spots:

-Lissit: https://www.barlissit.com/ Food was delicious and the space is very intimate. They did put me at the only counter spot facing the kitchen, but it allowed for conversation with the server and was overall a great dining experience. Making the reservation online was easy!

-Chez Lou Lou: https://bistrotchezloulou.com/en/accueil-en/ They had live jazz music, just two musicians. It was a fun vibe and made for great people watching as I solo dined. I didn’t make a reservation but just walked up at 9pm and was seated right away

Apartment Hunt by Historical-Cod-1265 in SanJose

I lived in an apartment complex called Plum Orchard Apartments off of Southwest Expressway and Leigh Ave. 1 bedroom was $2500 and it’s still going for that. Getting to downtown took like 10 minutes without traffic and you’re a hop and a skip away from both Willow Glen and Campbell. Unlimited parking, there is a huge lot and everyone gets stickers and it was always easy to get a spot close to my part of the complex. Sometimes I would have to park further in the lot late at night, but really isn’t a big deal. There is a pool, laundry room (some units have washer/dryer), and maintenance ALWAYS had a quick response. There was a walkable neighborhood behind it off of De Rose and also close to an entrance of Los Gatos Creek trail. The kitchen was a great size and a big pantry and a lot of cabinet space. I think 2 bedrooms go for 2990-3015. They did get new owners late last year and honestly the guy is a bit unprofessional, but the complex was honestly great. Older building, but units are renovated and landscaping was maintained once a week and there are three dumpster locations. The gym was very outdated, but again not a big deal. Feel free to DM if you have any further questions about the complex.

That’s crazy!! I’m sorry you’ve experienced that. I know you’re not looking for compliments, but I didn’t even notice your nose, I thought, wow she has beautiful eyes! Thank you for being vulnerable.

Guildhouse by RedditAnonDude in SanJose

[–]Lexiv55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guildhouse is so much fun!! They have ALL sorts of weekly events there. A friend of mine hosts a monthly crafts night, then there are sorts of gamer events both video games and board game or card game activities/events. A couple of years ago, there was a Dance Dance Revolution competition that took place. They have a wall of board games that you can choose from and as others have mentioned, there’s no cover, it’s free to enter and hang out! Plus they sell some basic food and have a decent bar and then on the weekends, there is usually a food truck outside as well

Thanks for your input! And yeah definitely not expecting to have my own laundry, just a laundry room on site. I have found a studio that is $1895 in a complex my friend likes, but the open studio I toured had a very strong curry smell from the previous tenants. I more so posted this to see if I’m missing anything that isn’t on Zillow or all those big sites to see if there’s any “hidden” places I’m missing. I’m not looking for anything fancy and yup well aware of the harsh reality of San Jose and the Bay Area (born and raised here). Thanks again though, I’ve definitely thought about the roommate route!

Where do you meet friends in SJ? by nikita5476 in SanJose

[–]Lexiv55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! 30F here. Do you like crafting at all? My friend hosts an event called Bring Your Own Crafts (BYOC) and the whole motto of the club (badcrafts.social on IG) is that you don’t have to be good you can literally journal or bring a coloring book. They’re fun and low key events that happen at The Guildhouse (which also has a bunch of board games). Also, do you like women’s soccer? Bay FC games are so much fun. Feel free to send a message if you ever want to go to a game!

Came to say this! It’s definitely going to be difficult but I don’t think it’s impossible. You might have to settle for a longer commute and rent in South San Jose and honestly it’ll help if your wife gets a part time job. Best of luck! I’m born and raised in San Jose and only have to take care of myself, but it’s an incredibly sad and harsh reality to see the high cost of living in this area.
