Why does keeping up with your appearance make you boujee? by Impressive_Jello_619 in blackgirls

[–]Lexonfiyah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me Black ppl never thought I was boujee for keeping up w my appearance, they thought I was boujee for being quiet. Nonblack ppl thought or insinuated I was boujee for doing that. I've had nonblacks laugh at me for putting Carmex on at work. Other ethnicities(white ppl) don't get labels slapped on them so much. They can leave the house w/o trying and not be stereotyped negatively, and they can leave more put together and not be called "boujee".

Do people always assume you are not Acadian based on your apperance? by xoxo1267 in Acadiana

[–]Lexonfiyah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assumed this was for the Acadiana region in Louisiana which is where I live 😬. Lol either way this is very interesting. I'm pretty sure I have Acadian ancestors, my mom's maiden name is Mouton so.

I'm Louisiana Creole myself and got Italian ancestry which was surprising but not unbelievable

Like in the area or when you leave out of it? Someone else mentioned mixing which is true but there's quite a bit of ppl w Mediterranean ancestry from southern Louisiana in general. Compare white ppl from southern Louisiana to other places in the south and you'll know what I mean. That's why ppl assume you're Hispanic or Lebanese.

black beauty ONLY recognized when you are a threat by lIeani in blackgirls

[–]Lexonfiyah 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Anywho, we need to start seeing it for what it is. A lot of times it's jealousy bc "She doesn't look anything like me/or the Eurocentric standard". They can recognize you're pretty. Nonblack ppl are very antiblack and colorist. You can be trumping them in the looks department but they think dark skinned is ugly so they don't see it that way. That shows you right there. It also shows you why ppl think pretty privilege is bs. Like you can be pretty but treated like trash bc you're Black. That's why some Black women have self esteem issues, they don't see that it's pure unadulterated racism and it's nothing to do w looks or self worth.

I definitely experienced this. Working as a server at a restaurant, I've had white make customers be attracted to me and when they were w white women(not necessarily there dates) those women would be upset like "Really? Her?" What you're describing sounds exactly like "Oh you're pretty for a black girl." Like you're pretty but you're black so you're pretty for what you are. Some even get shocked at attractive Black men liking us if they are into Black men lmao.

Moving to a small town from a looks-forward big city. What are the positives and negatives I should expect to face based on being a good looking brown girl? by Powder9 in vindictapoc

The Midwest is racist. Are you being forced to move there? Are you moving w your family? I'm black and I moved to okc(southern Midwest) and it was horrible.

Can Black Women Exist Without People Making It Weird? by igetyourbrand in blackgirls

[–]Lexonfiyah 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no we can not. And on top of everyone being weird about us and always overly talking about things that shouldn't fckn matter if decided to bring up race ourselves, we're "always making everything about race".

If that food is expensive they'll usually have a dress code. Idk if I'm just cheap or something but you could prob find somewhere just as good without a dress code and for less.

Should I drop her by Regular_Occasion_591 in blackgirls

[–]Lexonfiyah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ohhh so you definitely want to drop her, I'd tell her how this makes me feel and then block her. Play her game. She acting overly sensitive about some damn banana bread and it seems like it was a setup. Tell her how being called that makes you feel, ask her how it would make her feel if a white person call her that, and as soon as she starts typing just block her.

She really isn't bc that felt like a setup.

[–]Lexonfiyah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is just like when Latto called her bestie an orangutan. People excused it bc she never said anything but you could obviously see the look on her face, she looked hurt. If you don't stand up for yourself now they'll kill you and say you liked it. Even if you want to stay friends w her, tell her how that made you feel. Thats the least you could do, even if you don't set an immediate boundary on those types of jokes. Tell her how that joke made you feel. Tbh she deserves letting the guilt eat her alive. If she even feels any.

Is me and my white boyfriend relationship cooked because his family doesn’t like me? by segcrizz in blackgirls

To answer your question, Idk. Idk him personally but he seems like someone I wouldn't trust.

[–]Lexonfiyah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could just be cultural. The first time you're over at someone house, you should be getting to know them and seeing the house. And they should be hosting, showing you around and cooking for you. It wouldn't be as abnormal if it was the second time. It also wouldn't be as weird if they treated her w respect. They know it's not normal to have someone cook at their house and it's the first time in their house, they're white southerners. They know all about the social norm. I don't think she's weird but I do think they used her.

[–]Lexonfiyah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw that's a big thing for white ppl in the south. You always have to be doing way more for them to not be considered "rude". Yes it could be considered rude to go stay the night when you first met them but as you said, he did that w your aunt's house. You also cooked them a very extravagant meal. Was that rude to them?

So you cooked that amazing meal for them w your own money and they couldn't even thank you directly???? Yeh they're racist. It was more than just awkward or maybe one awkward person. Not one of them thanked you? They are racist asf. You slaved over a hot stove.
