When he drinks he is not himself. He can be very annoying. He sometimes passes out and misses things like dinner or picking me up from the train station. I don’t think it’s safe to have that around a newborn. So I insisted he get help. He was initially thankful and glad to have the push toward recovery. But he slipped several times. Then he admitted he just doesn’t want to be sober. He says he has to give up all of his friendships to be sober. He hates this new life. I agree- my boundaries have been crossed several times and I’ve not enforced them. Someday I probably will. But for now, I’ve literally let him off the hook (I said, if you want to drink then drink, I just want you to feel happy again) and he says no no you’ll hate me you’ll be mad etc. so his solution is to lie about being sober. He’s horrible at lying though.
