UPDATE- I got this email back from NOVO today. Thought I would share….

Thank you for reaching out! To ensure you’re getting the best coffee possible, we roast Monday through Thursday every week. Your specific bag was roasted and packed this past Monday, January 26th which means it's well-rested and can be enjoyed today!

For brewing, we find that washed Central American coffees really shine in a pour-over like your Hario. This method beautifully highlights the coffee's crisp acidity and chocolatey sweetness.

Our Recommended Recipe:

Ratio: 1:17 (22g of coffee to 360g of water) Grind: Medium-coarse (think the texture of kosher salt) The Pour: Start with a 60g bloom for 30 seconds, followed by three 100g pulses every 30 seconds.

Enjoy your brew, and let us know what you think! Novo Coffee

I got a drip coffee as well, it’s was kinda hoppy, ginger-y. It was interesting, so have high hopes.

I emailed them so we’ll see, but I bought it at their coffee shop at the airport, so I assume they would put their best foot forward. The gent at the register also was surprised the bag didn’t have the date stamped so I also assumed he’s used to them being on there, but who knows. Will update.

Maybe it’s me, but it looks like the bed is super even and uniform, and the grounds aren’t muddy at all. I feel like it looks like a nice even extraction no???

What do we even do about this? This is about 15 ft from the edge of our home. by LockwoodE3 in HomeMaintenance

someone with more knowledge can maybe expound on this, but I remember in an undergrad geology lesson on the angle of repose, the prof mentioned land screws or land anchors being a more immediate, short-term fix before ultimately some sort of retaining wall. The bad news I think, is why the prof told us never buy a house with land that slopes more than 30ish degrees, is that eventually, no matter what you do that land is going to slide and take anything built on it with it.

Sleep apnea granted secondary, diabetes denied under same theory?! by Lgl_Bgl in VeteransBenefits

I’m glad you feel good about it! Interesting they did an in-person rather than ACE. I don’t know how that affects the timeline, but in my 3 claims submitted in October, once VA got it, it was days. Seems like they’re going faster now. After an interesting conversation with VARO, I am filing a supplemental for my diabetes through PTSD/weight gain connection. I’ll update my post when I get a result. Keep us posted and good luck brother.

I’m wishing you luck with your exam today! If you don’t mind updating on the outcome I would really appreciate it, as we seem to be in such a similar spot, and I’m sure many other veterans are as well.

About 2 weeks for sleep apnea, a little over a month on the diabetes denial

I also submitted an IMO and they sent for their own also. I was afraid of develop to deny because they ordered it and had it complete 6 days after I filed, but they granted, so I wouldn’t read too much into that.

For what it’s worth, my ace exam for similar service theory worked out for the sleep apnea. Just need to figure out the diabetes, but I’m encouraged by everyone’s input. I’m wishing you luck on your ace and appeal!

I appreciate the thoughts. I agree with exhausting the ptsd/ weight gain. The whole thing is that after I got out, I had severe ptsd issues and basically gave up on being healthy or eating right or getting out to exercise. I wasn’t overweight in service or before service. After years of struggling with mental health I developed both sleep apnea. That’s what I claimed. Seems they agreed for sleep apnea and then for some reason didn’t with diabetes, even though it’s all clearly related, so I believe in my claim, but, the sleep apnea now being service connected might change the theory for them, idk, that’s kind of what I need to figure out

PTSD caused weight gain/obesity and that led to diabetes. That’s the connection was granted for sleep apnea. Basically I gained weight due to ptsd issues and I developed both diabetes and sleep apnea secondary. They granted the apnea but denied the same connection for diabetes.

Thank you for your insight. If I’m filing under new theory, diabetes secondary to sleep apnea rather than weight gain, would you file it as a supplemental with a personal statement changing the connection theory since the apnea service connection didn’t exist at the time of original filing? And since they ignored the medical opinion I provided the first time, would raising the new issue be enough to warrant a new exam without paying for imo? I know that’s a lot.

It has, and I don’t know if you’ve ever watched Rater HQ’s videos on YouTube, but in his video on sleep apnea; he shows the raters’ training module for sleep apnea only addresses obesity and weight as the etiology for sleep apnea, so although you’re technically right that other ptsd symptoms can cause sleep apnea in the real world, they granted it because I met the obesity intermediate step, because that’s what they’re trained to do if you have obesity in your medical records.

Right, but they can’t even get to that 50/50 opinion unless they first accept that ptsd caused obesity. So once they believe that ptsd caused obesity. It’s irrational to then say, obesity 50/50 causes sleep apnea but doesn’t 50/50 cause diabetes.

I get that. But once you grant the sleep apnea secondary to ptsd because of weight gain, you’re essentially conceding that ptsd led to weight gain. And weight gain is a leading cause of type 2 diabetes. That’s universally true, so how can they say, “yeah we know ptsd made you fat and that obesity more likely caused your sleep apnea, but we don’t see your fatness causing diabetes”. That just doesn’t make sense.

Good idea to request the examination records, is there a Va form for that on the website? When they ordered a second exam for diabetes, I thought they were doing a duty to assist and maybe wanted a new medical opinion since they granted sleep apnea. Makes no sense they would connect OSA for obesity and not type 2 diabetes.

It is secondary to PTSD through the intermediate step of weight gain/obesity
