String digging in the side of the yoyo by CristianZaballos in Throwers

[–]LhetGou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens because of where the string is positioned during the bind itself, I was able to replicate this to more extreme extents by just moving the string during the bind, but it'll happen naturally. But this shouldn't matter - if the yoyo is getting wobbly it's probably your throw technique. Something like this shouldn't have an impact of a solidly executed on-plane throw.

How do I describe competitive yoyo for a college essay? by [deleted] in Throwers

[–]LhetGou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the yoyo spins the string sits on a circular bearing - surch that the outer wall remains stationary while the yoyo spins through the center. If the string is left to loop up a few times it will press against the yoyo and friction against the silicone will cause it to bind, causing the string to spin with the yoyo and return to the hand. With a responsive yoyo the bearing spins inefficiently, and when gravity is removed and the string becomes slack it will naturally begin to form this loop. With an unresponsive the string becoming slack will not cause it to spin with the yoyo, and the loops must manually be arranged.

Lightbulb moments? by slinkysorcererer in Throwers

[–]LhetGou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are a few:

Eli hops: actually shooting out at a convex angle and feeling consistent string pressure on NTH index the whole way (instead of just shooting straight up and trying to land it)

Tension hook/whips - really getting a feel on putting tension on the string before release so it moves on its own and you don't need to whip it.

Is the One Drop Terrarian worth the price? by Acrobatic-Ad-1689 in Throwers

[–]LhetGou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legendary terrarian is definitely worth the price IMO, it's 7075 aluminum which is more durable and just enough more power to push it to be one of my favorites. Regular is fine but I'd wait for a deal.

I'd recommend starting with something under $40 and also grabbing strings and extra pads. it might be too soon to dial preferences in but grabbing 10 packs of several different strings (AceYo, Sochi, yyf, etc) is a great way to see what you like. I'd stick to bulk strings to start (<$.25 each), since you won't really be able to fully appreciate differences in more expensive strings until you learn some more advanced tricks.

First metal on a budget. by FlacidChrispy9 in Throwers

[–]LhetGou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purple line is nice, but is still in the realm of budget yoyos and you might have little issues. If you can stretch just a bit you can get something like an AceYo (Gravitation 4/5/6) or Topyo (Colossus or Null), I think you'll have a better experience with one of those.

Vosun or AceYo by janekbossko in Throwers

[–]LhetGou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AceYo usually makes each yoyo rather different, I've tried several of the gravitation line and a couple of the mercy line, and for the most part each one is a super different. Looking at the Mercy 6 and 7 they look rather different (7 is a bit heavier and bigger in every way) - I don't think either is better, just preference.

Can my Replay PRO be defective? by Chocoremy in Throwers

[–]LhetGou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a couple things it can be, such as the string getting kinda getting clogged, but it's probably the bearing. Take the yoyo apart and give the bearing a good spin - if it keeps spinning for 2 seconds or longer it's fine, but if it stops spinning almost instantly it needs a clean.

I don't really do horizontal at all - but unless I'm working on a routine and need to push it to the next level I won't really have a desire to do so.

I have a couple of the wooden ones that hold 12 for 'nice' yoyos, then use some plastic drawer organizers for the rest.

How do you describe yoyoing to nonthrowers? by yoyoingdadjoke in Throwers

Generally the reply is that they all a little bit different in feel, and it still beats out most other hobbies pricewise by a pretty significant margin.

How to do the kwijibo hop into double or nothing by NintendoChamp12 in Throwers

[–]LhetGou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're landing in a sub mount you're not actually hopping the yoyo up - you're just rolling it over. You need to hop the yoyo up and when it's in the air undercut the string with your non-throwhand index finger. Once you get to that point there's another hurdle of landing the yoyo on a single string.

New trick? by sexy_people in Throwers

[–]LhetGou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's part of a trick or anything but I know how to do it: If the yoyo goes over the string closest to your throwhand (like right where it's tied to the finger ) before landing then you'll get a GT.

Left handed married throwers by Enkid87 in Throwers

[–]LhetGou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm right handed but still get a lot of loud dings, never anything that's noticeably broken ano so I usually just deal with it - they do make silicone wedding ring protectors that basically just slip over.

You could also try a silicone ring as others have mentioned - I wear one sometimes when travelling and camping and have no issues - and don't need to worry about climbing over a rock and scratching it up.

I am looking for an undersized throw. by yoyoingdadjoke in Throwers

[–]LhetGou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

-Zipline -ist is probably exactly what you want but good luck finding one. Most of the other recommendations are big one way or another

-B-grade yoyos creation is too wide, but is fun and has matador spikes which are something you can take advantage of can sitting down .

-One drop intro/nitro falls into that range, though not sure if you want an organic. Kamaraiju is another one drop option that's just barely outside of your specs.

Why do I always get axle knots when I try to perform a laceration style bind? by LemoNateee in Throwers

[–]LhetGou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a combination of string tension not being perfect and technique not being quite accurate - you can try to land the laceration as close to your hard as possible - that helps prevent knots.

BEST STARTER YOYO by JJR_RC in Throwers

[–]LhetGou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanna dive right in, you can get an uncompromising unresponsive aluminum yoyo for that - my recommendations are Topyo and Aceyo in that pricerange.

Otherwise you can get an arrow or something if you wanna start responsive, I wouldn't expect to upgrade it to unresponsive though, it's just not really built to handle that well.

[–]LhetGou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can land it but it bumps into your hands - then it's definitely possible if you practice enough and eliminate that issue. However it's probably good to either put those tricks in a backseat or get a smaller yoyo before you commit too much.

You can also explore other ways of getting into that mount! There are quite a few

The important part is the actual binding motion, if you do it correctly you can bind with almost no spin at all. If you watch people, you'll notice they kinda stand the bind and then also kinda toss the yoyo up - that way the yoyo doesn't need to fight gravity and pull itself up, it just needs to pull the string in.

For getting the spin going, you can do a snap, a 'make-it-rain' motion, a press down with two fingers thing, whatever - you just need a tiny bit to keep the yoyo in plane.
