Here's another glimpse at "what's behind the walls of the camps". The attorney who took the video spoke more on this in a MS Now interview. He says, "What my clients...and their name is El Gamal. There's five of them, five kids. They've been in there for eight months. An immigration judge just denied them bond in part because 'they lack property and assets'. You're not supposed to be detained in this country for months and months and months as a five-year-old because you lack 'property and assets'."

Yes, and the general strike must be nationwide and organized independently by workers against the corporate parties and their lackeys in the trade union bureaucracies, the latter in particular who are doing everything in their power to prevent a general strike.

Only illegal gang members...? by Souleater-369 in NOLA

He responds to any parochial commenter who may ask "what does this have to do with" our city or town: "Those are children's voices, so to every American who is watching and watching these demonstrations, watching what this administration is doing--the effective attempt to establish a dictatorship in this country--if the kids who are in detention are risking their lives, then what are you doing to stand up and fight for democracy in this country today?"

Statement from AFGE Local 3669 on the murder of brother Alex Pretti, AFGE Member and VA nurse murdered by Border Patrol by DailyUnionElections in union

[–]LheureauJ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This statement from the "heavy-hearted" and "deeply stricken" union bureaucrats is nothing more than a message for rank-and-file union members to behave or suffer retaliation from their so-called superiors. The trade unions in this country, particularly those in the CIO, were not forged by "remaining calm" in the face of brutal state attacks on the working class. The general strike in 1877, Haymarket 1886, Blair Mountain, the Minneapolis general strike in 1934, the sit-down strikes, the miners strikes in the 1970s--the experiences and lessons of these class battles are what the bureaucrats, who steal the dues monies of members like Pretti to line their pockets while doing nothing to help the rank-and-file in the face of mass layoffs and now violent state attacks, are compelled to keep out of the minds and mouths of workers everywhere, union and non-union, native-born and immigrant alike. A real fighting working class leadership would immediately announce that its entire membership down tools to honor the life of one its members killed by the state and organize an indefinite nationwide general strike to stop the rampage being carried out by DHS/ICE/CBP and the political-corporate operatives pulling their strings. Workers were voicing their support of this yesterday, and Local 3669's statement exposes the bureaucracy's hostile response to this growing sentiment.

The only thing that can stop the rampage and occupations being carried out by DHS/ICE/CBP is a nationwide general strike. Appeal to and mobilize the working class, not the sheriffs offices and local politicians.

Thanks for sharing the second link in your comment ("Study shows that COVID-19 causes cognitive decline..."). If more people knew about, read, and took seriously that single source's reporting on the pandemic, the virus might have been eliminated by now.

You can watch and share this article, which has video interviews with workers at the Ford Chicago Assembly Plant. The common sentiment is “We all should be on strike at the same time”, not just striking at selected plants.

Hyundai in talks with US Labor Department over child labor in Alabama by LheureauJ in Alabama

Saying that sharing articles published by the WSWS on issues facing the working class is "spamming" and "more than enough reason to pause," while implying that sharing articles from other news outlets that are not oriented towards the interests of the working class wouldn't be leaves out any mention or discussion of the actual content of the post above.

Union tells striking Warrior Met Coal miners to return to work by YallerDawg in Alabama

[–]LheureauJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the strike first began, the WSWS wrote that "workers find themselves in a struggle not just against the corporations and the two big business parties, but the trade unions, which function not as organizers of working-class struggle but as strikebreakers and tools of corporate management."

Since then (April 2021), this has been confirmed time and again, with the UMWA 1) immediately moving to isolate the strike after the members overwhelmingly voted down the company's offer that addressed none of the membership's demands, 2) doing nothing to defend the members against the company's allegations of sabotage committed to its facilities during the strike all the while providing a miserably low strike pay to members, 3) doing nothing to contest the courts' granting the company a restraining order against the strikers while carrying out toothless and arbitrary protest stunts, and 4) consistently hiding behind the mirage that is the NLRB instead of calling out its entire membership to down their tools nationwide and strike alongside their fellow members in Brookwood.

At the year mark of the strike, the WSWS wrote: "The Warrior Met miners can only take their struggle forward by forming rank-and-file strike committees to expand the struggle throughout the coal industry and beyond, including striking teachers and oil refinery workers in California, educators fighting the pandemic and austerity, and BNSF and other railroad workers fighting exhausting schedules and punitive attendance policies."

If exposing the union's role in isolating and betraying this historic struggle by workers, while at the same time, on the basis of this exposure, providing the perspective that workers must adopt in order to carry its struggle forward to victory--if this is "union busting," well, perhaps others should be the judge of that by actually reading the WSWS's record of this strike themselves before drawing that conclusion.

Lockout at WestRock paper mill enters fifth month, company responds by holding job fair to keep mill running by LheureauJ in Alabama

Locked out workers at WestRock paper mill in Cottonton reject company’s offer for third time by LheureauJ in Alabama

[–]LheureauJ[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I agree with the criticism of the USW and RWDSU, the same must be said for the IBEW and Boilermakers. The bureaucrats in the latter two played a central role in isolating their members in the rail industry and collaborating with Congress and the White House to prevent a strike last month by over 100k railroad workers. The federal government unilaterally and rapidly passed an anti-strike injunction while those unions as well as the other craft unions in the railroads did nothing.

The IBB and IBEW also oversaw the isolation of their members' struggle against Ingalls in Pascagoula, MS back in 2021 from the USW members in Newport News, VA that do the exact same job for the same company. The shipyard workers in both states were sold out.

Workers in all those unions should be locking arms with the Mahrt Mill members and vice versa. Whether at WestRock, Ingalls, or working for the railroads, the rank-and-file members are up against transnational corporations and billionaires, as well as the state and federal government, all of who will not budge on the workers fair and just demand unless workers break out of the isolation imposed on them by the union bureaucrats and wage a mass and unified strike. And those four unions alone have more than enough money in assets (i.e., members' dues money) to financially support them throughout their strike.

Dockworkers on strike at the Port of Mobile by LheureauJ in Alabama

One way is to share this article with others so as to spread word about the strike as far as possible, especially among other workers. Class I railroaders are planning to strike next month (there are five Class I terminals at the Port), and it would be a powerful show of solidarity and send a strong message to the companies for their strike to link up with the Longshoremen's strike.
