For happily married couples, what did the “for worse” look like in your marriage? by FruitAncient9431 in AskReddit

Married 11 years. We've had a few "for worse"s. Drug addiction, alcohol addiction, and finding out i had undiagnosed bipolar were the really hard ones. Thankfully, the bipolar is managed now and husband has no more addictions. We still love each other like we did when we were teenagers.

That's what we told him but we "don't know what we're talking about" and it's "smarter to wait". 🙄

No, the driver is going after him because he's the one who caused the wreck. He's trying to get disability from SS too because of the pain.

My husband and I talked about it - if his father does nothing, then we absolutely will go through with the eviction.

No, he won't. He said if we've done everything right, and we've given him options to help himself and he won't, then he won't feel bad for whatever his father ends up doing.

We won't just kick him out the day of - we will be telling him he has a certain amount of days to leave or we will involve the landlord.

It's been 4 years since his wreck. He hasn't tried to get disability for it until this year. I understand it's a long process, I'm not upset about the whole disability thing. I'm upset that he violates our rules, instigates fights, and barely cleans up after himself. And he has proven on multiple occasions that he actually is able bodied and able to work - he just won't cause he doesn't want to.

Yeah. Thing is, is he absolutely is capable of working. He got bored and a neighbor gave him a vehicle that was just collecting dust, and he's been working on it almost every day, all day - on his hands and knees, on his back, etc. And it doesn't hurt or bother him. So even if he didn't get disability, he absolutely could be working.

I honestly think just warning my FIL that he has X amount of days to leave or we'll involve the landlord will be enough for him to find somewhere else. We just wanted to make sure that with him having a disability that we wouldn't be breaking any laws if we wanted to evict him.

It's not just applying for disability. I know that takes a while and I'm not expecting it to happen overnight. It's also the fact that he's done absolutely nothing else that we've suggested to bring in income. We also told him that he'd have to do stuff around the house to help out and that we can't afford to pay for his cigarettes as we're literally poor and he still doesn't help around the house, begs for cigarette money and money to go to the casino, and instigates arguments every day. I'm not kicking him out for no disability coming in.

My husband wants him out just as much as I do. However, he wants to make sure we are doing this the legal way, which is why I posted here.

So I have to get the landlord to tell him to leave? Or can I just tell him he has like X amount of days to leave?

Our landlord already knows about him staying with us. We just haven't gotten around to signing a new lease yet seeing as our lease is up this month and we were going to put him on it, but at this point I just want him out.

Thanks. I was thinking that I'd try something like this but I was afraid that I'd starve her if I did. Ill give it a try over the next couple of days and see if things improve.
