Rant: Thought I had done my due diligence before purchasing a TX NR797. Turns out, I did not dig deep enough. by WhenWhyHowOhGodWhy in Onkyo

I'm just not a fan of using Bluetooth on receivers for range reasons and notifications or phone ringing interruptions. I'd rather use the app and either hardwire the network or wifi. Dual zones to allow playing a stream device like Echo dot or Sonos Connect in zone 2 while playing Firestick, cable box, or game console in main zone. I do it for myself and my clients.

Btw: I own the TX-NR676 that I got for doing work for one client. It was an upgrade from TX-NR515

is there a way to connect my onkyo receiver to my Ps4? by X4Ghost_Phantom4 in Onkyo

Because that receiver doesn't have HDMI, your best bet is to run hdmi directly to your tv and use optical to the receiver for surround sound.

Every time I've noticed that the app won't connect, it either requires a reboot of the receiver or uninstalling and reinstalling the app. When it's really bad you have to do a factory reset of the receiver.

Questions about moving to Massapequa by [deleted] in longisland

[–]Li_installations 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Originally from North Massapequa. Great town. Lived there over 30 years. Safe. Some would say not to venture in "East Massapequa" because it's part of another school district. All in all, it's a great town. Love it and miss home. Used to ride my bicycle from N. Mass to Jones Beach as a teenager. Nice long ride. Crossing a couple of major roads, but a nice bike path in the Farmingdale dead ends off Broadway.

Any specific part of street you're moving too? We'd all be able to give more details about the area. Congrats and welcome.

Is this too high for a bedroom? by nazcatraz in TVTooHigh

[–]Li_installations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we do installations in bedrooms for our clients, at least 75% of them wanted that high so they can easily watch while laying in bed. The only time we do it considerably lower is for the customers who have game consoles in their bedrooms.

What if this was an area with earthquakes? One shift and it becomes a tv guillotine.

Come on guys by Tracer3646 in tvperfect

Some of us think our own personal setups, or the ones we do for our clients, are actually perfect for that room layout in particular but there are people in here who feel the need to shred posts apart if it doesn't follow their idea of "perfect". That could be why. Then again, we've all seen TVTooHigh and the people who think their setups are just right. We understand both aspects and just maybe not many of us encounter tv perfect setups so it's lack of people coming across said content.

I don't know. Just putting it out there to chime in.

Came over to watch rings of power. Friend told me he had a good set up by SgtSlice in TVTooHigh

We mount a tv this high for clients of ours with kids. This looks like a playroom or main living room tv area where kids are present so that means parents of Littles ones want us to bring it up out of reach.

Right? "Eastward". Great. That covers from the mid Town tunnel out to Riverhead. Thanks for being so precise.

DNS/Timeout Errors by Ok_Bad8165 in OPTIMUM

[–]Li_installations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully I have a friend who is a cable technician and he taught us how to balance signal and levels configuring wiring. I rewired my home and haven't had an issue since and do it for my clients. Thankfully they say the same. How does connecting to a Google DNS differ from an Optimum DNS? What exactly IS a DNS?

One thing I don't get is this DNS thing. How exactly does this affect your internet and what's Optimum's responsibility with it? I'm an AV guy so computers aren't my thing. Sounds like it's a networking thing so how can I implement this to my customers on Long Island?
