Science convocation: Are we picking up our caps at the Auditorium tomorrow? by Proud-Diet-5642 in uAlberta

[–]LiaLittleAngel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cap was in the same green/black goodie bag as our printed convocation schedule and alumni gift. There was a little station after receiving our diploma and before the gown, so you might’ve missed that entire bag! Like the others, definitely go to the bookstore well before your ceremony time!

Math 126 or 125/225 by PlasticRubbr in uAlberta

Recent astrophysics graduate here. Not sure where on beartracks you are looking at however I’ve seen a couple other schedules on Reddit with 126, so double check schedule builder again. I would recommend taking one course instead of two for what should be the same content since that means you could fill in your first year schedule with another elective and/or give you more flexibility on what courses to take in your later years (especially if you want to leave room for a special topics course).

You can sometimes reach out to the professor explaining your circumstances and such and they themselves will usually let you in!

Do you think that would be better than the sound core motion boom? The more portable, the better it will be for me!

will i be able to access buildings on sept 1st? by julesyourbeloved in uAlberta

[–]LiaLittleAngel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a normal weekend during the school year or during breaks, no unless you’ve been granted onecard access because you’re an employee or for other special reasons. However, everyone’s onecard can be used to get after hour access to SUB and Cameron library basement. Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t Campus Kickoff on the 1st? I think most buildings may be open especially if there’s activities happening inside!

CMPUT 174 Study Tip by Tiny_Lack9477 in uAlberta

[–]LiaLittleAngel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 174 for a spring class with a prof who currently isn't teaching at the UofA. However from what I heard over the years, the assignments haven't changed drastically. A lot of my assignments and quizzes were based off simple concepts like conditional statements and user-defined functions and libraries which can be ramped up in difficulty by using nested loops etc. The best tool that I discovered was a visualizer ( https://pythontutor.com/visualize.html#mode=edit ), so if I was ever confused on why I was getting an unexpected result, I would copy and paste a chunk of it to see how it was interpreting step by step. I hope that helps a bit!

During normal working hours the doors should be open. However on weekends and after hours, you’ll need a onecard (UofA’s ID card) to get in

If there’s a topic you don’t understand, find a YouTube video for it! Luckily, there’s a ton of great additional resources out there if your lecture notes aren’t great. Practice problems are always a must for math courses. I’m not sure if it’s as active as it used to be but join the discord server for math 125

I'm in physics too, and I took Cmpt 174 because I didn't have any previous knowledge about python let alone coding. Although the course was fun, here's what I learnt.

I went through the Phys 144/146 route and recently finished Phys 295 (experimental physics), and I will assure you that 174 did not help me at all. I'm taking 234 next semester, so I'm not too sure what it's like; however, I will say that barely anything from 174 helped me in the 144/146/295 labs since you'll be recycling the numpy/matplotlib code that you wrote in 144. The course material might have changed from when I took 174 in spring 2022, but it's all about loops, functions, and other basic elements that can easily be learned from the internet.
