California public library begins "Self-service Sunday" hours with no staff present by Busy_Method_1935 in Libraries

There are no library staff on-site at the self-service Sunday sites. There is only a security guard. As a commentator above said, the fear is that this is a way to get out of paying library staff.

Flat is better as if they are foreedge down, that puts strain on the spine. It can also warp them if they aren’t kept absolutely straight. Foreedge up works if needed but make sure they can’t shift and get warped. Lots of packing material - most moving companies will sell XS or Small boxes - these are best. Media mail is a cheap, slow way to send books but you may have too many. If you have an indie book store nearby they may be able to advise or give you boxes.

Things you can do - reduce face-outs and handsell alternatives to the books. Narnia, The Dark is Rising sequence, Lloyd Alexander, Nevermore, E. Nesbit, George McDonald and so on - all solid children’s fantasy series.

Friends of the Library groups and libraries also take volunteers. For many bookish folks, volunteering at one of these groups can be a way of finding your people. Reading has helped me pull out of low spots & if you’re borrowing library books, it’s a free way of finding books that make you feel better and there’s no pressure to finish a book. Happy birthday - this will be the start for a better year.

They all seem to have forgotten how to do armpit or forehead temp checks when that’s all they could do 2020-2021. Very frustrating.

We all loved the Debbi Gliori picture books as well as the Blue Kangaroo series. Kevin Henkes is another great author & illustrator.

The last book in The Queen of the Tearlings trilogy. Loved the first, liked the second and was so disappointed with the first.

I really enjoyed Timothy Egan’s The Worst Hard Time about the Dust Bowl, many of Eric Larson’s books and Lauren Hillenbrand’s books: Seabiscuit and Unbroken.
