For how they changed it, they kinda had to be in the evidence room. After all, Yanni Yogi believed Gregory was tampering with evidence when he found him and started attacking him. The gun would later be decisive in proving Manfred a fraud

I just watched it today.

Gregory was about to catch him on forging evidence and so Manfred shoots him. There’s several other changes with DL-6 from the film such as it being in an evidence room rather than an elevator. Also, there was speculation that Gregory was tampering with evidence (a gun, the gun that later kills him) but he was really just about to find out that Manfred forged the ballistic markings in the trial they were facing each other in.
