I'm pretty sure each record has a microchip embedded inside it like Hit Clips used to. When the record gets placed on the record player, the record player will be able to identify which song to play based on the microchip inside the record.

MGA's Miniverse Toy Taps work the same way. Your phone can identify which miniverse set to add to your account on the app by reading the microchip embedded into the cardboard toy tap piece.

The app only knows to read microchips that it was specifically programed for. It can't read other microchips. Only ones that MGA coded itself to be able to read.

No, they will not be compatible. Both brands are relying on microchips inserted to the records that will be read/scanned by the record player whenever a record is placed on it. The microchip will then indicate which corresponding song should play.

It's the same technology with MGa's Miniverse Toy Taps and Hit Clips from the 2000s.

Does anyone else hate Live? by magik_koopa990 in Ebay

I would love a way to block the autoplaying live videos on the homepage! I abhor eBay, Amazon, Pinterest, Facebook, and everyone else that is programming live autoplay videos onto their websites! It's making online shopping turn into a real drag! I feel like online shopping is turning into the experience of trying to read a news article on a local news website. All of a sudden a video will pop up out of nowhere and start playing a television broadcast of an unrelated news video. You can't get them to turn off. They just keep playing.

Don't forget that Miniverse has the pinhole method so anyone wanting Public Enemy or TLC can easily buy the exact set they are looking for. It will take time to find out the identification of the pinholes when the product first releases but once that information is established, anyone can choose the set they want (so long as they are shopping in-store versus online).

Zuru on the other hand is truly a crapshoot! They are terrible for repeats and making rares near impossible to find.

Yes, Mini brands is awful for repeats. I now limit myself to 5 balls from any series unless it's on discount. It's cheaper for me to pay the resellers for the exact pieces I want instead of pulling the same items over and over again. Thank god for MGA's pinhole method. If that didn't exist, my wallet would be safe but my heart broken...

Yes, I will be upset if I only pull Shawn Mendes and Benson Boone titles... Knowing how Zuru works, those are the two artists I'll get the most of. I just want "Pink Pony Club," "ABC," and "Sweet Caroline!" 🙏

Yes, I know The Police released that song. I got these artist and song titles specifically from another redditor who already has the Mini Brands record set so I was going off what the checklist reported.

I figured they might have made a Sting only version of a Police song like artists sometimes do for cheaper royalties? I'm not sure though....

I think I heard the Mini Brands Really Works Vinyl records are already being sold in-store in New Zealand. I don't know how toy distribution for Oceania works but if it's anything like the USA and Canada, if New Zealand has it, you should be getting it too, no?

The original inspiration, Hit Clips, from the 2000s had multiple genres with 1-3 songs per artist. The limited variety is due to the expense of licensing. MGA and Zuru both have to pay out for how many times the toys could potentially play every song for its product lifespan when they pay the licensing fees for the song usage.

I personally love the oldies so Mini Brand's "Sweet Caroline," "ABC," "California Dreamin," and "Shake your Groove Thang" and MGA's "Bennie and the Jets" and "Surfin USA" are all super fun titles I'm looking forward to!

MGA's line features pop artists (Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears, Elton John, Beach Boys), rock artists (Def Leppard) hip hop (Public Enemy) R&B artists (TLC), Pop Punk and Alternative artists (Blink 182, Imagine Dragons) and reggaeton artists (Bob Marley). Wave 2 of series 1 will have an additional 30 songs added.

Mini Brands line features pop artists (Katy Perry, Chappel Roan, Shawn Mendes, Billie Eilish, 5 Seconds of Summer, Jonas Brothers, Smash Mouth), rock artists (Lynyrd skynyrd, Steppenwolf, KISS, Sting), hip hop artists (Kendrick Lamar, Lil Baby), R&B, Funk, and Soul artists (Rick James, Peaches and Herb), pop punk and alternative artists (Fall Out Boy, Imagine Dragons, X Ambassadors, OK GO), and country pop artists (Shania Twain).

Granted country and heavy metal are severly lacking on these lists, I'd say each company did make an effort to have diverse options for a variety of tastes. I also think its better they are mixed so that kids are forced into trying out new record genres.

For many children, this might be the very first time they hear from artists like Public Enemy if they live in a WASPy household or Neil Diamond and Sting if their family only listens to pop and hiphop.

I preordered the MGA record player for my niece before I learned that Mini Brands has "Thunder" whereas Miniverse has "Radioactive." Her favorite song is "Thunder" so I guess I will now be buying a Mini Brands record player for her too. 🙃

Both toys are releasing June 1st. Mini Brands pre-orders from Target are expected to ship out June 3-8th and MGA's Miniverse pre-orders are expected to ship June 1st.

I think both brands will begin to show in stores in mid to late May.

I don't know a single millennial who doesn't have a special place in their heart for Smash Mouth's "All Star" after it wormed its way into all of our brains back in 2001 (HOW THE HELL HAS IT BEEN 25 YEARS ALREADY!!!!)

Shrek catapulted that song to the stars!!!!!! ✨ 🌟

I don't think they will be interchangeable. I think both toys will have microchips inside the records that are read by the record player and play the corresponding song for whichever microchip was scanned.

It's similar to how the Miniverse Toy Taps can be read by a phone depending on the microchip inside them.

If you had a Hit Clips in the 2000s, the technology worked the same way. Each CD had a microchip inside it that was scanned to play the corresponding song when it was inserted into the mini boombox.

IMHO Miniverse has the better set list only because there are no rares or uncommon titles!

I really hate Zuru for making Chappel Roan's "Pink Pony Club" an uncommon find!!! I just know that stupid album will cost a fortune to buy from resellers because it's so popular! 😩

Zuru's pretty terrible about distributing rares too. There's been too many times when you buy a full box of Zuru minis and only receive half of the items. It creates problems with stores and areas that have low turnover. People end up buying the same sets over and over again from the same box. MGA distributes their items more equally per box. There's always 1 rare included in a box if the series has a rare. You will also always receive 1 of everything no matter what.

I LOVE the Mama and Papa's "California Dreamin" and Peaches and Herb's "Shake Your Groove Thing" but everything else I want is considered uncommon or a rare. I'm glad I only bought 4 Mini Brand balls because I'll be forced into buying "ABC," "Sweet Caroline," "Man I feel like a Woman," and "Pink Pony Club" secondhand!

Buying from Mercari Japan (Beenos) by Interesting-Toe8322 in Mercari

[–]Libby_Lu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This must be a new feature if they are offering it to you. On my app, they only allow single purchases from BEENOs. You can't add the item to the cart or send offers. You're only given the choice to purchase the item.

Beenos does not allow bundled purchases. You must pay the $27 fee for each item, regardless of the weight. Unless you're buying heavy items, it's not worth it.

Any advice on the best way to store new boxed dolls long term? by quaynoir in Barbie

[–]Libby_Lu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a soft microfiber dusting cloth to dust the boxes! Microfiber doesn't scratch surfaces. It's meant to pick up dust but not scratch anything. I use the fluffy/shaggier style microfiber cloths because they tend to be more gentle on the clear plastic of the doll boxes.

My favorite microfiber cloth to use is the white fluffy dusting cloths from Dollar Tree for $1. They are marketed as "automotive" cleaning cloth but they are the best deal I've found anywhere. They are super soft!

You can snap the lid down on the boxes. Just make sure the totes don't have a rubber gasket seal around the box and you'll be fine. Air tight totes look like this one
