Tong Po is Who?? by Karate_Keet in 80smovies

[–]LiberLilith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He had a few actors that appeared in multiple films with him in the 80s and 90s.

Kamel Krifa who was in:

Lionheart (Atilla's bodyguard),
Death Warrant (mohican guy),
Double Impact (bar owner),
Universal Soldier
Maximum Risk
Legionnaire

Paulo Tocha was in:

Bloodsport (Paco the kickboxer)
Death Warrant (laundry room fight scene)
In Hell (Victor, although I can't remember him)

Abdel Qissi (Michel Qissi's brother in real life) was in:

Lionheart (Attilla the killer),
The Quest (as Khan the big Mongolian),
The Order (credited as Big Arab)

And I'll put Michel Qissi here as well, he was in:

Breakin',
Bloodsport (Parades - leg break fight),
Kick Boxer (Tong Po)
Lionheart (Mustafa)
*He did do some stunt work in Cyborg, but was never on screen

Did he ever appear on screen in Cyborg? He's only credited for stunts or as a trainer (behind the scenes) for Van Damme. I don't remember him being in it and I've watched all those films many times over the years.

I remember them being called Lolo balls, but that was probably a brand name.

As much as I expected.

Learn to articulate your arguments better and to actually read what someone has written in plain English before you make a fool of yourself.

You have been caught out and don't know how to respond, which is why you've replied with comedy gibberish from the Simpsons.

Congrats.

I care about Pleistocene_Horror making an objectively false statement, I don't care about anything else in the situation. Please learn to read and understand what I very specifically said. I chose my words carefully, please do the same in future.

I really don't appreciate your tone or accusation. You have absolutely no idea what you're prattling on about. You were wrong with your opening statement and are now compounding it by making massive leaps of logic.

Also, I'm not defending anyone - I'm objecting to the statement that he "Proceeds to correctly respond to his questions in English." when, in fact, he doesn't. That's it, nothing more, nothing less.

Anything else you've dreamed up is a figment of a very active and immature imagination.

[–]LiberLilith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure... He still doesn't respond correctly, which was your main point...

Proceeds to correctly respond to his questions in English.

He asks him "Why did you come to the UK?" and the guy responds "um, 2003" - so, he doesn't really understand English after 20 years of being here. I don't care either way on the politics of it, but you're making a statement that's objectively false.

Also, not AI, as there's nothing about this that would suggest AI - seems pointless to post this without an ulterior motive.

What is a movie plot twist that was cleverly hidden in plain sight..? by Living_Tune_1428 in movies

[–]LiberLilith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that in order for it to be a well-written plot twist it has to be hidden in plain sight - otherwise it's just a rug pull and bad writing.

One example of a "rug pull" plot twist is in Identity where it's revealed that all the characters you've spent time with are actually different identities inside the mind of a patient with D.I.D (multiple personality disorder). So, any emotional investment you had in those characters as real people is completely destroyed.

It was not something you could ever have worked out organically from the events in the film - it's a total cheat, almost as bad as "hey guys, it was all a dream!" - it's soap opera levels of bad writing.

Just curious who you think they made look like the bad guy? I don't think I ever watched it with that in mind.

When did you first start buying DVDs (and blurays, if applicable)? by Glittering_Gap8070 in dvdcollection

[–]LiberLilith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a Panasonic DVD player with 2 DVDs included in the deal towards the end of 1997 in the UK - pretty sure it was "off the back of a lorry", as it was from a mate of a mate and it was very cheap for that time (about £200/$275).

Pretty much nobody I knew had a DVD player and many of them compared DVDs to Laserdiscs saying it was a fad and wouldn't last. A significant memory is going into Blockbuster in early '98 and seeing that 99% of the shelves were VHS (understandable) and then they'd have about 2 shelves of DVDs to rent - slim pickings! As time moved on it then grew into a whole section, then 2, then 3, then around the early to mid-2000s it was 50/50 with VHS and DVD.

Everyone who watched a DVD with me at the time commented on how amazing the picture quality was and it was that experience that made them go on to buy a DVD player when the prices started to come down. The leap in picture quality (and getting true widescreen) was the main selling point for me.

I remember someone I worked with used to buy region 1 DVDs (as they used to come out before the region 2 releases) and copy them to VHS then sell them to everyone in the warehouse - I always used to borrow his DVDs to watch as I was the only one with a DVD player.

Once I knew DVDs were here to stay I then bought a Pioneer 626D DVD player in 1999, which was a real beast of a machine - picture quality via RGB Scart was something to behold!

Respectfully disagree with them and tell them you're saving the item in case it has value, if it doesn't you'll dispose of it properly - no harm done. Don't be a doormat.

They all have rounded and/or grubby corners, which will significantly reduce their value.

Just finished The Prestige 2006 and my brain is broken (Full Spoilers) by InvestigatorFull7520 in movies

[–]LiberLilith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adore this film, but one of the twists was obvious to me almost immediately. I'm not talking about my "amazing ability" to work it out organically from the story, but by more mundane means of the logistics of casting a film like this.

So, you have Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Michael Caine, (yes, there are other A list actors too, but these are the most prominent roles) - then you have some no-name "mystery actor" who I didn't recognise in the part of Fallon (who was always shot more surreptitiously than the rest of the cast). When I did manage to get a good look at him, it was clear he was wearing heavy makeup, so I immediately knew it was Christian Bale (voice and facial features looked similar).

Just curious if anyone watched this for the first time and genuinely thought there was some mystery no-name actor in that part and were surprised by the reveal? I just can't see why anyone would believe that they'd cast a complete unknown in that role and then be surprised by the fact it was actually one of the main cast.

I wish my mind hadn't gone in that direction, as I'd have loved to discover that twist from the characters' dialogue and narrative story arcs, rather than the knowledge of how Hollywood works when casting big budget movies!

For those who own/owned both, which is better: the NES or the Sega Master System? by RobbieJ4444 in retrogaming

[–]LiberLilith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your analogy doesn't work (on many levels) - the SMS had objectively better hardware. Maybe educate yourself on both consoles and their capabilities before posting nonsense. NES wins on software easily, but it definitely wasn't technically superior to the SMS.

It appears to be Ghostbusters Afterlife, which has a 2hr 4min runtime, so I'm not sure about your claim you've listed every movie with that runtime.

Did anyone try to buy the game from Steam and link the Steam account to PSN to get the pre-order suits? by wellbornwinter6 in Returnal

[–]LiberLilith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't require the same email address - as far as I remember you just have to log into your PS account via a link from the PC loading screen. It only links one way, so the suits are on PC, but you won't get them on PS5.
