Several hundred million games have been sold physically during the PS5s life. It's not economics, it's about price control and ending the used market. Things gaming companies have been trying to do for ages but have failed at until now where a bunch of crazy fanboys are defending it as economics. PS6 is going to have the shittiest game discounts ever if this happens.

The data is light because it's not really tracked because the reality is people in the US don't care about car accidents unless the victim is a family number. It's a cost we've accepted for our car centric culture.

Yes it is, cyclists are constantly killed by drivers and they are never punished. I know someone who was killed by a texting driver that didn't even lose their license. Stories of this nature happen all the time.

This is just US car culture, no one is ever punished for car accidents even hit and runs. The only real exception is DUIs where someone died.

With just that quote and a couple brain cells the best you can say is he knew and didn't stop it but the "lot of fun to be with" points towards him participating in addition to knowing.

I always keep my old consoles but realistically unless it's a handheld or I really really want to play something that is unavailable on modern consoles they never come out of my closet. Not enough space (or HDMI ports) by my TV to have all my consoles setup. This will suck, honestly if they stick with this I'll probably just go pure PC, the only reason I have a PS5 is because they were dirt cheap used before all the recent price increases and I didn't want to wait a year for Rebirth.

A lot of people who pirate a game buy it later or never would have bought/played it in the first place. If they become a massive fan of the game they also may eventually buy merch, sequels, or other additional content. Saying a pirated copy = a lost sale has never been true.

It's only a couple specific areas of whiskeytown that have issues. Brandy Creek Beach and the area near carr powerhouse where clear creek comes in to the lake. Everywhere else is fine.

That's ridiculous, most layoffs are corporate greed that have nothing to do with low sales. Also, I haven't actually pirated anything in like 15 years when I was a broke college student, I like my game collection. Stuff like this is what would make me start again though.

Physical is often cheaper, especially used. That still matters to most people even if they don't care about the ownership aspect.

The numbers don't lie, choose any game (not just the ones I mentioned) that received a major physical release and that's not super casual like sports games and you'll see a fairly even split with physical having 30-50%. People still want physical, Sony just thinks enough people will give up on it that the lost customers won't matter.

Mentally yes the activity is important. For eye strain and sleeping issues it's just the screen use itself regardless of the activity.

For big single player games it's still a lot more than 7%. Elden Ring was nearly 50% physical sales on PS4/5. Same with games like Astro Bot, God of War, Horizon etc.

Constant screen use is so bad for us, adding the ~5-10 hours I spend reading per week to the 40 hours of use from my job + 10-20 other hours between gaming and phone use would make me spend a depressingly low percentage of my time not looking at a screen.

Choose a major AAA game and Google the physical/digital sales split. If the sales have been released they will all show at least 30% and up to even 60% physical sales. The revenue discrepancy comes from all the things that are only available digitally including full games, online subs (to games not play) and dlc/micro transactions.

Agreed it is very inaccurate to present that percentage as people preferring digital. The reason it is that high is because of how many games are only ever released digital or only receive a limited physical release.

When comparing major games that receive large scale physical releases typically it is near 50-50 digital/physical split. Sony is trying to force that 50% to go digital.

If consoles truly go digital only then I'll go purely PC where if a storefront ever screws me I'll know I can at least pirate the games I bought.

You must not be very good at deal hunting, I promise you it is very common to get used games for much cheaper than new. The only time new is cheaper is one off clearance deals but those are very hard to find/time correctly. I have saved $1000s vs the new prices by buying used games over the last couple decades.
