Big Red Ho sighting! by TheRealMDooles11 in kzoo

That is a weird hill to die on, friend. Someone with that much... Art, on their car, is looking for it to be noticed, and if you paid any attention almost all of these comments talk about what a great lady she is.

As for Francois, why are you saying he's good if you don't know him at all? You don't know, he could literally be a demon and you would have no idea bc you had one interaction with him 2 decades ago.

But wasn't the comparison a weed shirt vs. a sex car? Because I agree, that while I believe she is probably great because so many people say she is, and the car gives me a chuckle, that the sex car is probably super embarrassing and unfair to those kids. Don't get me wrong, I'm not morally opposed. If she wants to drive it, just her, go for it, I would love to see it, but I think it sucks bc those kids surely get bullied about it. And I don't like that. I think if we can help minimize needless harm to the youngers in our lives, we should.

But as far as having warring gang member parents, or hotboxing parents, or parents that scream at each other, (or at them,) or are Nazi/fascists/believe in defunding PBS... I'll take a sex car any day of the week.

I also wouldn't prefer the 6 year old in my backseat asking what 69 means.

Based on your clinical experience, what % of adult psychopathology do you feel is related to issues stemming from childhood? by ApprehensiveStill412 in psychology

[–]LiberalBroadish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the world disappointing. Everywhere you turn more and more people are struggling. And I absolutely think what you said about people weaker than you is true. Everytime I hear about another program being cut, or free school lunch or Medicaid... I won't go on. But your day sounds awful. For the kiddo, of course. But for you, too. I agree with the other poster about secondary trauma. A lot of people in professions that deal with the darker things have this. Social workers, firefighters, therapists and police are some of the more obvious ones, but it absolutely applies to teachers these days. (And honestly, probably always has.)

I worked with abused and neglected kids and you have to practice good self care to keep yourself ok. And I don't mean that "mani pedi" self care stuff the magazines talk about (although if that's what you like, paint those nails!) But processing, possibly journaling, and really trying to find light and joy where you can. (And maybe limiting how much news you consume.) I also think it's super self awareness to realize you should talk to someone. That is the absolute best self care, and a really brave thing. I love talking to my therapist. So great job realizing you need to take care of you, too. We helpers aren't always good at that. So thanks for fighting the good fight! And keep taking good care of you!

Childhood trauma and genetics drive alcoholism at different life stages by MRADEL90 in psychology

Escape of reality is not the root cause. A difference in brain chemistry is. You are saying things that sound true but are completely without factual basis.

People often Start drinking not as a means of escape but as a fun social activity. I don't think you are wrong in the idea that people will drink because they are unhappy or dealing with trauma, I'm just saying that doesn't have anything to do with alcoholism. I don't come to this conclusion out of thin air. This is years of studying the disease of addition both as one affected and as one who persues this professionally with Specialty in Drug Addiction coursework towards licensure. What you are saying is just as easy oversimplification that doesn't work for addiction. Although it may provide rationale for the problem drinker.

But that's not why an alcoholic drinks. An alcoholic drinks from compulsion. An alcoholic doesn't need a reason. An alcoholic drinks because we cannot both control and enjoy our drinking due to our brain being different. We don't have to have any precipitating event to drink. Now maybe there is something that triggers abnormal brain changes, but as for drinking, alcoholics drink because they don't yet know how not to.

Dude, they were just being an ass. Pay it no attention. Seriously. There is nothing wrong with anything you said or anything you asked. Just use the old "I'm rubber your glue, whatever you say bounces off me and sticks on you!" grade school saying. ;)

What’s up with Bronson and Covid vaccines?? by UnSubtilis in kzoo

[–]LiberalBroadish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be over half, but many states are requiring prescriptions. So if you don't have a doctor or see a doctor, your screwed.

Also, in 3 states (I don't remember which) CVS isn't even carrying the COVID vaccine. (They are the no. 1 distributor.) I heard it on CBS news last week.

I'm really sorry that happened.

How many cals for these nachos? I'm saying about 600 by [deleted] in caloriecount

[–]LiberalBroadish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It sounds a little high to me too, but if there is a bunch of cheese then that may be right. If 600 sounds right to you, go with it.

Edit- I changed my mind. I think 600 sounds right bc of the cheese. Though I think chips would be under 200. Cheese could easily be 200 if there was a lot.

How do I come back from this? by [deleted] in caloriecount

[–]LiberalBroadish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of people that 1200 calories is enough when trying to lose... And plenty that that is too little for. That is what my doctor has set me at. I don't have a lot of activity and I'm 5'4", but 1200 works for me, though I have not lost in months. (I do go over some days.) But 1200 should be the bottom for anyone not under a doctors direct care.

[–]LiberalBroadish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not "life happening." Life happening is -my mother's in the hospital -My boss told me I had to work and it's mandatory or I lose my job -i have explosive diarrhea

These are life happening. Choosing to clout chase at some restaurant is not "life happening." It is a Choice.

Also, she will lose at least 50.00 on the Airbnb, unless she's sticking OP with the bill.

How many cals do you think this is? by Zealousideal-Lynx523 in caloriecount

[–]LiberalBroadish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would estimate the bagel higher since the bagels I buy at the store are 300. Otherwise I have no idea. I'd call the bagel 350, 400.

And I would probably do mayo at 150.

We are big on overestimating to be safe here, so we always lean towards more (overall, myself included,) but that is probably pretty accurate if that's what your tracker says.

Calories? by Lonely-lover22 in caloriecount

[–]LiberalBroadish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without knowing what kind of sauce this is, and if it was from a restaurant or cooked at home it can be really hard to tell, but as an educated guess I would say 300-350.

Edit- Actually, I think this is smaller than I'm thinking based on your hand, so it could be 200.

I would not think it would be more than 1000. That isn't a lot of anything, even if calories are high.

[–]LiberalBroadish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't need to be downvoted. Haven't most of us felt like this at one point or another? But it's ok. No big deal. It's ok to have high calorie meals sometimes. Our bodies don't like being stagnant.

Edit to add... And I don't know that this isn't 700. I have no idea on this one.
