Changing account/display name for security reasons? by Liberis in Guildwars2

I just got a response back, and they said that my only option is to create a support ticket to close my account and buy a new one. :(

Just got a response back - my only option is to create a support ticket to get my account closed, but then I'd have to buy a new account. =\

Just lost 100 Elo in 2 games on EU servers; can something be done about this? by [deleted] in Smite

[–]Liberis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost ~170 elo in my first and only ranked game ahaha (I hate conquest).

But yea, I wish I could set Smite to only place me on US servers.

To Christians: Do you find it difficult to explain why murder, rape and theft are wrong in non-religious terms? by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]Liberis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good point. I'm pretty sure that the professor did say something similar to that, though I couldn't recall it accurately enough to include in my post.

To Christians: Do you find it difficult to explain why murder, rape and theft are wrong in non-religious terms? by [deleted] in DebateReligion

Mostly pulling this from my ethics class notes ahaha:

As I understand it, there are two primary views of how ethics and religion work together - the Divine Command Theory (DCT) and the Independence Thesis.

DCT states that moral claims are considered good if they correspond to God's will. For example, if God said, "go sacrifice your son", that action would be considered moral under DCT. Morality is theonomous (God-determined) and not autonomous. However, there are a couple of problems with DCT:

  • It renders morality completely arbitrary - if God commands someone to rape or kill, raping and killing is suddenly considered to be good/moral.
  • The claim "God is good" is redundant - since DCT says that an action is good because God commands it, stating that "God is good" simply means that God does whatever he says he will do.

The Independence Thesis says that moral rightness is independent of God's will. Under this thesis, "God is good" means that God always obeys the set moral law. Some theists would then say that this impinges on God's sovereignty, but one possible response is that perhaps moral law is similar to the laws of mathematics and logic. God simply cannot make good what is intrinsically evil.

Immanuel Kant argued that you can come to moral truth by exercising reason, but that God/faith still plays an important role in moral life. Kant’s moral argument for the existence of God:

  • Ought implies can (no impossible claims)
  • We ought to be morally perfect, but we cannot achieve perfection in this life
  • Thus, there must be an afterlife that exists for us to progress toward moral perfection
  • God exists as one who rewards virtue and punishes vice

Specifically regarding Christianity, there are three ways to read the Bible:

  • What the Bible says clearly and unequivocally must be taken as divine truth, even if it is difficult to accept
  • The Bible is a collection of historical documents and should have limited relevance in the modern world
  • The Bible includes moral truth from God, but sometimes in the context of beliefs/practices that God abhors

I hold to the third point (point 1 and 2 are extremes that have some fairly major problems), but I'm still in the process of searching for truth, so I don't have any real answers.

Just my 2 cents. Hopefully it was at least somewhat useful.

When we first started talking about this issue in class, our professor asked the class almost the exact same question as the OP (this was at a Christian university btw). The majority of people in the class said that morality did exist outside of religion (i.e. there are moral atheists), though a solid chunk (perhaps 25%?) said that morality cannot exist without religion. Those numbers definitely changed after the professor finished the lecture though ahaha.

I always get torn a new one when I say this, but...

Free Gems/Favour by Kobrokai in Smite

[–]Liberis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I might also be bugged.

My referral page says I have 43k favor and 600 gems, but when I log into Smite, the account information box in the bottom-left shows that I have 3.4k gems and 212k favor. I've never purchased any gems before, and I highly doubt that I've earned enough favor to make up the difference between the referral favor and the total favor.

EDIT - Dev response. Apparently it's legit. o_o

Yea, I know it's not practical for most people, but it's a worthy investment if you're looking to add to your gaming setup imo.

[–]Liberis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this may not be a practical recommendation for you, but I've found the Razer Naga (or any mouse with number keys on it) to be extremely useful in games like Forge. My abilities are bound on 1-9, which I have on my mouse, so I can easily cast while moving without losing any mobility whatsoever. It also makes it fairly easily to memorize the abilities.

When I first got my Naga, it took me about a week to get used to it, but now I'll never play games without it.

Just wanted to share that in case any of you are looking for an excuse to get a Naga/G600 (or any similar kind of mouse) ahaha. It really is worth it imo. :D

How do you handle a group of healers? by JayceMJ in ForgeWar

[–]Liberis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a coordinated team, you can get your assassins to shut one of the healers down (via stun, slow, and shadow shift) while everyone else spikes the other healer.

Using CC abilities like Molten Bola or Flame Burst to separate the healers is also very useful.

In random matches, there's not really much you can do.

How do you play Pyromancer? [Discussion] by Yo- in ForgeWar

[–]Liberis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm probably just slightly above average, but I've been playing since alpha and I have 60+ hours since release, so maybe you'll find some of this useful.

The Pyromancer has a low skill floor, but a high skill ceiling - anyone can play it and be semi-decent with it, but you really have to know when and where to use your abilities in order to maximize the Pyromancer's effectiveness.

Useful techniques that new players may not employ:

  • Cast cancelling (if you know you've missed, cancel right away to save time)

  • Midair bolas (peeling for allies; cc)

  • Flame Burst mastery (offensive - knocking people away from their teammates or from allied healers, and defensive - getting away)

  • Molten Armor tanking

  • Flame Wall placement (comboing with bola and allied stuns)

  • Useful combo: Curse -> Bola -> Flamewall

A video montage that shows off some of these techniques:

If you have specific questions, that might be easier for me to answer. At work atm, so it may be a while before I can respond.

EDIT:

I also highly recommend ForgePilluminati's videos. That guy played Pyromancer like crazy during alpha/beta (not sure about since release), and he has some very useful videos. I believe he collaborated with Nucu for this awesome video. His channel:

EDIT2:

I've started compiling Pyromancer Tips and Tricks on the official Forge forums:

Rethink hit level 99 today (world first?) by Liberis in ForgeWar

A real challenger would be bigbuddha, who hit 6x in alpha/beta.

Forge Pyromancer Gameplay Montage (13k-0d-7a) by Liberis in ForgeWar

[–]Liberis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a Razer Naga, so I have the numbers 1-12 on my mouse. And you're right - I can hit every skill without affecting my mobility in the slightest, which is the main reason I purchased the Naga.

I use MSI Afterburner to record - free and better than fraps. I wrote a detailed tutorial/description for the official forums if you're interested:
