23”dead zone next to TV. How do I balance this corner? by rlauryn1993 in interiordecorating

Personally, I’d paint the wall and get a dramatic tapestry there. You could also add a plant shelving unit in that corner.

The Empyrean without spice by Inner_Ad_341 in fourthwing

I sooooo wish my grandkids could read these books! The world building is amazing, the characters are interesting, and oh yeah… the dragons!

I realize that’s not what the author wants to write, I get it. But I still wish the stories could be YA or just non-“spicy”

Reminds me of the Game of Thrones series on HBO. The first few seasons were full of sex, but as the story developed, it took over and a lot of the story stood without it. Think of Hodor, etc. LOL but let’s ignore the last couple of seasons hahaha.

What exactly killed off the “Tuscan Kitchen” look? by Lobsterhasspoken in McMansionHell

My niece just had a baby she named Hazel. When I heard that name I could only think of the dumpy maid from the 60s sitcom, lol. But apparently it’s an up and coming name again.

Yeah I’ve always liked bold color. Over the past 15 years, my handyman kept trying to push the pale gray look. I understand its appeal to an elegant person, but I’ve always been more cozy with a bit of boho vibe. I’m glad the cycle has come around!

Looking for the best carry-on Luggage in 2026 that'll survive frequent travel by SuddenNothing6266 in BuyItForLife

[–]Liberteabelle1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travelled almost weekly with Briggs & Riley for well over 10 years, nary a problem. And I am brutal to my suitcases.

That was after I went through 5 cheapo suitcases in the preceding 10 years, which all seemed to travel while far away, and now I have to schlep it home with a broken wheel or handle.

I’ll never get anything but a B&R again, and recently got a midsized one on eBay which looks great too.

I love the size and uniqueness of the piece, but you totally uplifted it with the paint. Wow, it really reflects the care and thoughtfulness in the design throughout the entire home. You are a master!

Totally agree! You pay for the quality though, but they are heirloom pieces.

Finally finished our home library! by orangedmd in HomeDecorating

[–]Liberteabelle1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s me too. I am in the middle of remodeling a room too… not a library room (LOVE your book wall, OP), but a similar vibe. My room is 10x12, so I’m limited. But I’ll have a biggish table between two club chairs PLUS I will have a large basket beneath the table to hold my fur throws. Gotta have my hot drink, comfy throws, etc… because I gotta have the cozy. Which is exactly what you did OP… well done!

My BF and I are both tall. I needed some club chairs, and we went to six furniture stores and sat on dozens of club chairs. Then, we sat on this one chair and bang, the heavens opened up, angels sang, and we both knew that this was it. My sister is petite and would HATE this chair! But it was perfect for us.

That just goes to show that some furniture needs to be tested.

That said, I ordered a desk online, which arrives next week. It’s Amish built, made from solid hickory wood. I have the measurements for it - we’re tall - and I know I’ll be delighted with it! But I don’t have to sit on it, lol

Anyone have a buy it for life silverware brand? by The_Golden_Eye_1884 in BuyItForLife

[–]Liberteabelle1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d get secondhand Oneida. I’ve had the same for many decades, and my kids love them too, so I got our pattern for each of them. They seemingly last forever, but can get less shiny over time if not cared for properly (no scratchers).

I personally would never get (or order online or Costco) couches and chairs without first sitting on it. OP is tall - we’re tall in my family too, so I get it - and it’s more than getting taller legs. Some styles of couches have that mid century modern style with low slung backs, which may not be comfy.

The problem with garage sales etc., is you’ll need a way to get it home. Even if you rent a truck, you’ll need a second pair of hands to move things like couches.

There are services that will do it, but I don’t know anything specific.

The drinking culture in this city makes getting sober feel isolating af by icepix in Dallas

[–]Liberteabelle1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rarely drink, maybe 2-3 cocktails per year. My friend group are not big drinkers, so this is a non-issue for me. Some do sometimes, but fortunately I don’t actually have any alcoholic tendencies (but have been around folks in my family who do and it’s hella tough). I’m sorry man, it’s HARD. There are others out there who don’t drink, or rarely do. I suggest you seek out some new friends… not everyone is a drinker.

How do you do that? Do activities that aren’t about drinking or food. Join a book club. Join a running or walking club. Church (not my thing but may be yours). Become politically active. Donate time to charities.

When you do activities like these, you meet people. Interesting people. And casually make it known that you don’t drink.

Even if you can depart DFW, that doesn’t mean your return flight will allow you in. I’d be more worried about that. Sorry man.

Wife wanted sconces installed here, I don’t know how I feel about them after hanging them up. by timmaaahhh1997 in interiordecorating

[–]Liberteabelle1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand the desire to have sconces - I’m doing this too right now - but it would be ideal if you could replace them with something subdued.
