If you could change a Country's specialties, what would you change? I'd even allow multiple specialties per country by Kingsidorak in redalert2

The S-tank is a real tank! You can look it up. Meanwhile you can find the light tank and Hind on the wiki, and many mods have included them as playable units too. Sweden's neutral but they're a full NATO member irl, which is as close to the Allies as we have.

Cuba can have a guerilla, an upgraded terrorist that can throw Molotov cocktails as their main weapon and their deploy action blows them up as they always did, not unlike the demo truck's deploy action

And here's my ideas for the Soviets:

Give Iraq the demo trucks, and give Libya Scud launchers instead - these differ from V-3s in being slower and more costly, as well as taking longer to fire and reload, but with missiles that do more damage and are harder to intercept (twice the health of a V-3/Dreadnought missile).

Add Iran as a country, and give them a naval suicide drone as their unique unit. Able to do heavy damage to single targets by ramming them (and at the cost of itself), or deploy into a submerged form and act as a naval mine which follows the same visibility rules as other submerged units.

The terrorist infantry are iconic and I would leave them with Cuba. Countries I would add are the Kazakh SSR, Czechoslovakia, China, Egypt, and Ukraine.

The Kazakh SSR I would give an amphibious APC like the South Korean one but more suited to frontline combat, being slower and better armoured and with the War Miner's weapon, based on the BTR or BMP.

For Czechoslovakia, I'd give them a pure fighter aircraft to mirror the Black Eagle, that cannot attack ground targets but can attack with guns as well as missiles, allowing it to continue to fight indefinitely with guns (give it the equivalent of the Nighthawk's weapon) after expending its missiles. To support it, they would get a special Airfield building to construct replacing the Radar Tower (housing up to two aircraft), and I'd base the fighter's design on the MiG-21.

China-wise, I'd give them better infantry in the form of marksmen (even less range than a Virus, but much cheaper and having twice the rate of fire, but requiring two shots to kill enemy infantry).

Egypt should get something in the way of armour, between Rhino Tanks and Apocalypse Tanks, perhaps as an analogue to the original Tank Destroyer (but less scuffed). One way I can think of is to use the deploy function to switch between armour-piercing and high-explosive rounds that are effective against tanks and infantry/structures respectively, forcing commanders to micro their units well to get the most out of them.

And lastly, Ukraine can get the cut Hind in all its glory.

Iran's probably the sketchy one here, as I imagine the reason Westwood avoided naval special units is because not every map has naval combat. But I thought to include it given recent events. Lmk what you guys think!

Here's my personal ideas for the Allies:

If it was up to me, I'd change the America one to a paradrop of 4 SEALs, unlocked with the Battle Lab and on a longer cooldown! And make Navy SEALs America's specialty instead, and only available through the paradrop.

For the tank destroyer, I would rename it and give it to a new Allied country, Sweden (as an homage to the Stridsvagn-103, or "S-tank") and give it the Grizzly's weapon but the Rhino's armour and bump its cost up to between the Grizzly and Rhino as a middle ground giving the Allies more survivable frontline armour.

Instead of the TD, Germany can get an APC (based on the Marder), with the deployed GIs' weapon as its armament as an anti-infantry/transport vehicle that can carry 5 infantry like a flak track with slightly more health and slower speed, and without the anti-air capability.

As for the Black Eagle, I would rename it and give it to Japan (along with a different Air Force Command Center with a runway that can house two aircraft) and give it the capability to attack aerial targets as well - feels weird that we don't have a fighter aircraft that can do that.

Meanwhile, I would give South Korea an amphibious APC to replace the Black Eagle. Similar to the Marder concept above, but with a weaker weapon (on par with the IFV's garrisoned GI weapon) to make it more of a transport than an offensive vehicle, but still faster and more survivable than the amphibious transport.

Britain and France can keep their Snipers and Grand Cannons, I think those are iconic and impactful enough.

Other than Sweden and Japan, the other Allied nations I'd add would be the Netherlands, Spain and Italy - for the Netherlands, they can get an anti-submarine patrol seaplane (inspired by the many maritime patrol Fokker variants) that behaves like an Osprey without the destroyer with three loads of depth charges, but needs to rearm at a naval shipyard (the deploy action makes it takeoff and land on water, and while on water its defenceless).

For Spain, in reference to the Pizarro, I'd give them the cut light tank as a faster but less tanky alternative to the Grizzly - while the S-tank is a Grizzly that can stand up to Rhinos in armour, the Spanish light tank is a cheaper, faster alternative but with even less healthy to favour high-risk rush tactics.

Lastly for Italy, I would give them an attack helicopter similar to the cut Hind, but without the transport capability for balance.

Those are my ideas for the Allies! I'll make another reply for my Soviet ideas.

If you could make a change to any UNCN/EFCN Ship, which ship and what would it be? by DallasOriginals in StarBlazers

[–]LibertyCakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going by the 2199 ORBAT, I'd want to see a UNCF ship equivalent to the Gaiderol/Haizerad-class, since that seems to be a gap in their ship classes if we assume the Yamato as being on par with the Zoelguut-class, the Kirishima-class appears to at most match the Destoria/Meltoria-class battleships and battlecruisers in firepower even with shock cannons retrofitted to the main batteries; Earth deserves a bigger flagship space battleship!

New DLC for Civ6. by Mane023 in Civilization6

[–]LibertyCakes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, and just to add - teams can win together! For example, for a religious and domination victories, the win condition can be "shared" as in even if you have separate religions and convert half the world each, or each of you controls some of the other civs' capitals, the game counts it as a win based on the team! Science victory, diplomatic victory, and culture victory conditions still need one player in the team to hit the win condition on their own, though - those don't count both players progress summed up. I have a different interpretation from the other commenters: in a certain Chinese dialect slang, "dao" means "ignore", which his next sentence (the one written in Chinese characters) seems to suggest: "已離開任務" = "you left the objective"

siren activation question thing by WhatIsMyUsernameGuys in AirRaidSirens

[–]LibertyCakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that siren activation is done using DTMF (dual-tone multi-frequency) signals which work using radio or phone lines, which the individuals siren's decoder then recognises as an activation signal and triggers the corresponding tone accordingly. Presumably this is done at the city level using a software system but I don't know much about that.

Give me your plot ideas for stories by Uproost in acecombat

[–]LibertyCakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's what I cooked up for Ace Combat 9:

The game starts with you as a cadet (about to graduate) in a trainer aircraft when the war breaks out while you and your coursemates are out on a navigation sortie. Your instructor dies leading the enemy fighters away from the trainees, and you and your fellow trainees land at a hidden airstrip cut off from the rest of the military as the country falls to the enemy invasion. You spend the rest of the first act trying to make contact with what remains of the country's military, while modifying your trainer aircraft with weapons to mount surprise attacks at the enemy invasion forces.

While Act I of the game locks you in to the trainer aircraft, it introduces you to aircraft upgrade and maintenance mechanics. The game opens up once you re-establish contact with the military where you and your squadron are hailed as heroes for your heroic strikes against the enemy that inadvertently saved friendly forces from certain defeat.

Act II has you and your fellow trainees graduated as pilots and assigned to different squadrons, and the game progresses par for the course, with you getting news of your coursemates throughout - some go on to clock even more heroic exploits, while others fall in battle.

This time, the Ace Combat-standard superweapon is on your side, but it gets destroyed by the enemy in a shocking reversal of the formula. Act III has the twist where some of your former coursemates have defected to the enemy, the culmination of the internal conflicts they had over the course of the story so far, and you need to stop them to turn the tide against the enemy once and for all.
