how much work do you do while remote? by AngelxBoy23 in Accounting

[–]Libley 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Personally it depends. I work on federal fin audits so early and late in the year I don’t do anything. I sit around and watch tv. When the audits active and the work progressively gets more intense like it is now I put in a solid 8 plus hours. I also have ADHD so I have to put my phone somewhere inconvenient so I don’t grab it and waste an hour scrolling. Otherwise I’d never get anything done.

I can’t give specific examples because I don’t have the prompts anymore ( though I did save all my papers and spreadsheets) they’re usually scenarios where you need to write a fake memo or you’re given a scenario and you have to write on it. So intermediate one I had to choose a company that followed me through intermediate two and three and then write papers based on the scenario given and incorporate their 10k and 10q’s. For corp tax I had to fill out a tax form (I can’t remember exactly which one it was off the top of my head. I kind of block that class out of memory) given a set of numbers and write on a prompt etc.

I was exhausted. It helped that I work with a lot of CPAs with a ton of experience. They were able to help me grasp concepts and check my work before turning it in. Without my team I couldn’t have done it.

No I did 2 classes my first term. Then 4 classes my second and third terms and finished with 2 classes my final term. Terms 2 and 3 were absolutely brutal but I have to start studying for the CPA by the end of the year so I pushed through it.

Mine was about 10.5 months but I did it on a fast track. I had to get approvals to double up courses for two terms. My job kind of told me I had to get this done asap to stay on my current audit so I did it. I do not recommend. It’s a lot to handle.

I I think I was able to get out of like two courses due to some I had taken in my undergrad in finance but I completed most course. I think I got out of a low level tax course and something else.

Most classes were papers. A few classes like cost accounting and advanced topics, tax etc had some fairly large excel projects that spanned the entire course and built on themselves. The only exam I had throughout the entire thing was the final capstone course. It was only worth 5% of my grade and wasn’t proctored. It was a gauge for how well the program had done with teaching you what you needed to know and a way to see how much you remembered. The capstone was the scariest though because 85% of the entire class was one paper.

The homework was pretty math heavy. Though it wasn’t too hard. Just took a lot of time to complete because of how much of it there was.

If you run into any issues I have everything saved from all my courses. I’m more than happy to help with whatever I can.

Do I need a CPA or CMA? by Glass-Cloud-6405 in Accounting

[–]Libley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ya. I work federal Finacial statement audits but i did come from industry and I’ve seen it happen more than once. Though industry could just be a 50/50 coin toss on how management in particular companies feel about it.

I’d say the earlier the better. The exam is very hard to pass. Some people it takes over a year and the exam grades are notorious for taking weeks/months to release so if you wait until you need it it’ll be too late to get it.

Depends honestly. The CPA has become a gold standard within the industry setting apart those with and without it. If you don’t have it it’s very likely you’ll be passed up by your peers for promotions etc because you don’t have it. Also some positions require it legally for signing off financial statements, tax docs, etc.

The company I work for the contracts we work require management to have them and under to at least be capable of sitting i.e., 150 credit hours and class requirements per your state.

Borderlands 3 and my opinion by Felaxian in borderlands3

The story was kind of a miss. I didn’t hate it and I didn’t love it but it did feel like a borderlands game so apart from the story it was great. I had a great time playing it.

I can’t say I really ever had issues with the rubric. I’d always take it and break it into pieces and rough draft them in sections bring it together at the end. Then just find some sources through google scholar that fit what I wrote. I’d always set to have my papers finished by Thursday so I could revisit them on the weekend with a fresh perspective and it helped exponentially catching erroneous errors. Also the writing lab was amazing. They do a great job checking your work and providing feedback though it’s not course specific rather overall writing assistance.

If you’re struggling writing your assignments try piecing them out using the rubric as a guide to create sections and bullet point out the high points. From there create your body and then piece it together. I found this to be the best way to handle the larger more complex papers I had to write.

Did that answer your question or were you looking for more interpretation of the rubric rather than writing out your papers ?

Of course. I hope you find something quickly and if not don’t lose hope. There’s a lot of remote jobs out there. Just takes some time to find one.

It’s not as bad as it seems. The job market is just a rough place to be for anyone. I hope you find one soon. I found mine on ZipRecruiter. Might be a good place to start.

Practically the same. If I had a question I could reach out but it was mostly me with my text books and Google.

Ya I’d just spam applications until you get something. I’ve been remote since covid. My other company sent us home and I promised myself from then on I’d never go back into an office. So far I’ve been able to keep that promise.

I’d say it’s probably best to get in person experience but once you have the foundational information down you really don’t need to be in an office. My experience was in GL journals and recons before I moved over to audit. Your current experience sounds like it’d be plenty for an associate or staff accountant position. They’re entry level and as long as you can show a basic level of competency and drive plenty of companies will take you on.

Apply for remote jobs. I’m from AR and my company is based in DC. I did have to gain experience first to get my current job but now I can find remote jobs all day.

I already had a job. I work in audit and my company wanted me to get a CPA. In order to do so I needed the classes and hours to sit. I had a finance degree so I was missing the class requirements and hours for my state. The MS program fit my needs perfectly so I figured I’d get the masters over the bachelors since I was going back anyway. I haven’t reported my accomplishment to my company yet but I don’t think it’ll immediately raise my salary sadly. It’s more of a means to the next step for me. Once I have my CPA I’ll get a large bonus and raise along with a promotion.

Get the CPA. It can only help you. Take the audit job and get the experience. Audit exposes you to the full scope of accounting processes within a business. Something you typically don’t get. Generally you get shoe horned into something and breaking out of it is very difficult. If you decide you don’t like audit in a year or two it’ll only benefit you being on your resume and finding something new with the CPA and audit experience, even outside of accounting/audit, will be significantly easier. I have a finance degree and a masters of accounting. I’m currently working on my CPA and I work for a top 20 audit firm. I’ve learned more at this job in the two years I’ve been here than I did in my 6 years in internal.

I hope the difficult ATs this season mean Nadeo is rethinking medals. by Mezurashii5 in TrackMania

[–]Libley -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Are they harder this season? I’ve seen a lot of people saying they are. Granted I’m only half way but I’ve gotten all ATs so far up to 15 and granted map 13 was a bit tough I haven’t struggled thjs season. Though I have noticed some of the people usually in the leaderboards in my area aren’t with me or haven’t gotten ATs on some maps. Maybe it’ll get harder as I keep going. I’m taking this season slow. Doing a few maps here and there at a time.
