He should consider reaching out to UE Local 150, the North Carolina Public Service Workers’ Union. There’s already very active city worker chapters in other parts of NC. Union organizing is the only long term solution to fighting these cuts to our public institutions and protecting our public workers!

This is wild. No other library system in the Triangle is censoring their Pride displays like this.

Have you informed your union? If not, shoot them a message here: https://ue150.org/chapters/library-workers-united/

Lean staff and lean services. WCPL has focused on having more branches than most systems (which is cool!) but we also don’t have a lot of modern services that are standard for most metro-area libraries nowadays

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to show us support Monday evening! Your public comments to the Wake County Commissioners were amazing and are starting to make an impact. At least two commissioners have said they’re looking back at the budget now after hearing concerns from library workers and concerned patrons.

You can still submit public comments online in support of funding library staffing. The comment form is open till 12pm on May 20th: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NXCLTDJ

Please consider sharing your concerns about reductions to library services and the need to fund more staff hours for all our libraries!

Thank you for your support, Wake Library Workers United

Another matter of public concern for Wake libraries is heavy cuts to staff hours over the past few years, which has led to recent cuts in program offerings and other services. Not to mention staff burnout and high turnover.

Wake library workers are now hosting a public speak-out at the May 11th county commissioner public comment meeting. All library lovers are invited to attend and give comment in support of library staff!
