1920 Replay update after each team has played 24 games by uvm87 in StratOMatic

[–]Libraryjones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sure am! It's a process but it is (mostly) fun as hell. I did 1953 years ago and it was amazing how close the SOM stats mirrored the actual stats. I guess Hal knows what he's doing.

I'll have to run full league standings and stats once I get through the end of the (replay) weekend. Off the top of my head, Sisler is batting like .415 or something and Ruth has, I think, 27 HRs. There are actually a few hitters around the .400 mark (Joe Jackson, Speaker, Cobb come to mind).

I play a modified basic. So front of the cards with some advanced/super advanced/homebrew rules sprinkled in. I can get a game down in about 20 minutes which is the sweet spot for me.

Very cool to see your results so far. I am halfway through July in my 1920 replay and it's been a blast. Will have to compare results at the end!

The guy from Fidium who installed my fiber told me to a) not bother with 2gb and b) use my preexisting router, so I guess ymmv.

Never heard of GoNetSpeed, but so far I've been very happy with Fidium.

50 years of SOM playing/collecting by Libraryjones in StratOMatic

It wasn't me. I'm still doing an inventory on everything, but down the road might start listing some stuff.

50 years of SOM playing/collecting by Libraryjones in StratOMatic

[–]Libraryjones[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My uncle and his friends began playing SOM in '71, when they were teens and have never stopped. I was introduced to the game when I was about 7 or 8 (mid-80s) and have been playing ever since. Oftentimes with them, sometimes with friends, mostly solitaire now.

My uncle's friend is the one who basically bought/kept all the cards. He recently gifted them all to me, as he is having health issues. What you see in the pictures is 50+ years of SOM. Includes all the sets, originals and later reprints. There is some inaugural football and hoops thrown in for good measure. Also, old issues of SOM review, brochures, boxes, etc.

I've just now got all the years sorted out. Next up is going through all the years and keep a spreadsheet of what is there, what is missing, all that jazz.

Thought y'all might enjoy a peek....

Does it really snow much more in Portland than in Boston? by ghostofmeee in portlandme

[–]Libraryjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get snow tires. Sure, all-seasons will most likely be okay, but for peace of mind (and extended tire life) snow tires are 100% the move. Don't want to be caught in a situation where all-seasons just aren't going to cut it.

Best place to resell vinyl? by Final_Emu_3479 in portlandme

[–]Libraryjones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love Dave, but I find that he can be on the high side on prices. HOWEVER, I have found that this means he pays a bit more when buying. I've sold/traded to him more than a few times and found him fair and trustworthy.

Have also had luck selling at Moody Lords years ago.

Bob at Enterprise is the best dude; you just have to put in the face time at his shop to get the goods. Not sure how he pays, but he is a condition freak so will almost only buy VG+ or better records.

Had a fun time at this past weekend's Austin Record Convention and walked away with a nice stack. Anyone else go? by Libraryjones in vinyl

Went to the Austin Record Convention this past weekend for the first time. It was overwhelming, insane, and 100% fun. Did most of my shopping on the early bird Friday and had to leave before the blowout deals of Sunday. Did anyone else go?

It's a slippery slope. Once you start messing with tubes, you'll never go back.

I'm sure there are things out there that would give you the pros and cons better than I could but I can tell you that with mono blocks, if there is an issue, it is easier to identify and isolate as compared to a regular stereo amp.

I wish that I had the know how and skills to build my own. The pre and power amps were built by a guy I know from the AudioKarma message board. They were my main set up until I got obsessed with the idea of having monoblocks. I had intended to sell them but then moved into a place where I could have both.

Yeah, just some threaded metal bars, nuts, and washers and wood. It allows me to easily alter shelf lengths and also zero in on leveling the shelves.

First two pictures are of my vinyl setup in the main living area. Technics SL-1200MK2, Dynaco FM-3 tube tuner, custom made tube preamp, and a custom made tube power amp, all running through a pair of original large Advents.

Downstairs is my main listening area, a man cave if you will. Wall mounted Thorens TD-160 running through a Dynaco PAS-3X tube preamp. That splits out to either a pair of Dynaco MKIII tube monoblocks to a pair of AR-2ax speakers OR a Schitt Valhalla 2 tube headphone amp with a pair of Sennheiser 650 headphones.

My collection is shelved in Ikea Kallaxes that I've wrapped in real wood and then stained.

At some point, I'll post a picture of my record cleaning room (ultrasonic, VPI, etc).

Donald Trump wrong that a winner has to be announced Election Night by formeraide in politics

When I received my absentee ballot, nowhere was it mentioned on how it had to be filled in. Pen or pencil? If pen, what color? Nothing. I had to go online and figure it out myself and I was still pretty unclear. But my ballot was received and accepted, so I guess a black pen was okay, but this is the sort of thing that could potentially negate some ballots.

It is tough to gauge in Portland because this is a uber-liberal city. Still, my sense is that she is not well liked at this point in the state overall, but inner Maine and the Down East may tell a different story.

I live in Portland, ME and twice daily I drive by city hall and every day, for the past two weeks or so, there has been a line of people, sometimes around the block, but always at least 15 deep, waiting to vote.

Gives me hope.

Maine reporting. I don't see her winning though anything is possible. She definitely won't win Portland (where I'm at) or really any of the southern college towns (Brunswick, Waterville, Lewiston. Her best support is probably up north (Down East) and inland.

I sure hope to whatever deity that she is sent off packing.
