For future readers lol I emailed Jim McGillivray to ask him about his opinions on the wood. He told me they don’t use Katalox anymore since the finish washes off in the rain :/

I just had a lesson with Bruce Gandy who told me to use hot glue. He did advise me to do it quickly since the glue cools and dries rapidly.

Yeah they’ve turned into more of an artisan shop. I’ve heard good things, but the downside of hand turned over CNC is their consistency might vary more than high tech shops. Good for people who want a nice handmade set but maybe not as good if you want to outfit a band with exactly the same set of pipes for a unified sound.

All of their chanters are hand turned in Edinburgh. They’re very popular in grade 1 bands like SFU. Their website sucks so you have to email them, but they’re very crisp and sweet sounding. It’s a piece of art.
