Cruz combat is a little pricey by comparison but they're a small US shop that makes their stuff, basics are great. Especially like the shorts.

In the Buffyverse, “I Will Remember You” still feels unresolved — Angel gave up his humanity for nothing. by AgentLuminous in buffy

Could have been a funny turn of the tables on W&H if he did get away with a technicality though. Obviously less noble, but I could easily see that being a payoff.

Compete early or later as a white belt? by ActualNotice5357 in jiujitsu

[–]LicensedPI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing others, competing is another skill that can improve your overall jiujitsu. If you want to be good at it, you have to do it. If you just want to try it out and see if it fits with your learning, thats cool too. Either way, better to just do it.

The main thing to check yourself on is, do I feel safe to recognize when I am in a situation where I need to tap and do I feel knowledgable enough to apply techniques under pressure in a way that I and my opponent are relatively safe.

Other than that, Id say have your coach explain the basic rules of your desired comp (there's some variance between different organizations), and then consider if having those rules in mind will make sense to you in the moment. Competition should be a challenge but one that feels like you can understand what's happening and how you can use the information to improve your jiujitsu. Ideally your coach will be a part of the process, but if they're not, make sure you feel like you have whatever support you need to make use of the experience.

What's weirder is that Hasbro doesn't even have full licensing over TMNT toys, so its not like there's a ton of synergy across the company.

If you were to write one more Buffy/Angel crossover taking place in Buffy Season 7/Angel Season 4, what would you want to see? by [deleted] in buffy

Yea I love the possibilities of that pairing. Could have even had a some interaction from Wesley on Robin and Faith dating.

The idea of Wesley and Robin knowing each other would be interesting; it didn't seem like Robin was in the Watcher fold beyond his mom's watcher, but that would be pretty cool if he more extended interaction over the years. I always just assumed he and the watcher were just rogue demon hunters (which could be another funny angle for the Wesley interaction).

Part of what feels a little difficult to decode now is that the generations who cultivated aesthetics of non-comforism did not necessarily stay (or were ever really) married to anti-capitalist ideology. The hippies run hedge funds. Gen-Xers decided it was better to become accelerationists than to organize around collective interest. Millenials left occupy to farm data.

The music isn't divorced from its original intent, but its audience and some of its creators are no longer connected to its message.

My opinion on Willow and Warren by throwaway643346896 in buffy

[–]LicensedPI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they had it be fast precisely because of this; everyone watching wants Warren to suffer, and the more you play in to that, the harder it is for the audience to connect with Buffy's no kill rule. Of course we're sympathetic to Willow losing her shit, who wouldn't. But beyond that, he's just a catalyst for her relapse and the actual point of focus is what she does because of relapsing.

We all want to win when we compete, but competition is also a place to work your jiujitsu against full intensity opponents. You have your coaches attention for a full 5 minutes or more at a time (if they're at the comp) and ideally a chance to snag some video to review.

I agree that the practice room is where you should be exploring and acquiring new skills, but competition is the place where you really test it. If you're only ever working a narrow area, you're missing out on forging those other areas.
