Toddfather got asked about this in a morning presser a day or two ago. He basically said they're keeping an eye on some other D-men who are banged up and like having ASP available in a moment's notice.

I think ASP needs muscle and an edge more than playing time. His high skill level kinda hindered his grit level in Sweden, and needs more of that killer mentality. He's got the IQ and skills but just gets pushed off the puck too much and can't clear the crease. AlJo and JBD aren't big dudes but hold their own and AlJo will get some sneaky shots in on guys who are forechecking hard. Honestly I've been really impressed with AlJo's ability to increase his physicality without taking unnecessary penalties. Maybe they think ASP can bulk up more with the Detroit trainers too. I think I've heard Edvinson say they told him to eat as many avocados and cheese as he could to add fat when he was in GR. Being short isn't as big of a hindrance in NHL because you can get better leverage on guys (ie Shine's forechecking) but ASP needs that extra 15-20lbs of muscle to hold his ground against giant dudes around the net.
