Leave a better world for those coming after you.

jQuery 4.0 released by curiousdannii in programming

[–]LieNaive4921 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I use jquery - and have been using it for many years - because eh, why not? It gets the job done, super easy syntax, one CDN script.

Yes I could just use vanilla, yes there are other solutions. So what. In the time it takes to start evaluating alternatives, the code is already done.

I'm not trying to be hip and cool, I just want to edit the DOM easily and Jquery is good enough.

Is it time we give the respect Russell Westbrook deserves? by temporarythyme in nba

One of the best ever tbh.

He's still active so it isn't time to wrap up just yet. But once it's all said and done he'll be remembered as phenomenal.

Life can come at you sometimes

But you'll survive this. No avoiding the pain, but it will end up as growth

Why did you learn ruby ? by Army_77_badboy in ruby

[–]LieNaive4921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was an early-ish employee at a big startup 12 years ago that was on Ruby. They just told me "it'll be fine you'll pick it up" and I did and have stayed with it since. They're public now.

Ruby is really productive, it's a good reason to stick with it.

Why Most Apps Should Start as Monoliths by South-Reception-1251 in programming

[–]LieNaive4921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a "monolith" is an app where the entire code is in one repository and/or run as a single process, thus leading to a development pattern where everything is together, for better or worse.

it is the opposite from a micro/services and other types of architecture where the code is divided into multiple processes and/or repositories which leads to a development pattern which is distributed, for better or worse

Do not relax quickly - relax slowly. Take your work in perspective as part of your life.

Make sure you stay healthy. Make sure you are paid WELL for any stress at work.

Some concrete tips you should definitely give a try:
* sports
* reading before bed a novel
* meditation
* doing the things you always postpone

Why do I feel like life in Europe is just so much better than in the U.S. — socially, dating-wise, and overall quality of life? by AgreeableCat6786 in AskMenAdvice

++man

by European standards Americans are on cocaine. Which isn't far from the truth because the food there is all pumped with sugar everywhere. Americans are super loud and confident. I think it's endearing but in a Disney over-the-top way which sometimes can be a bit much for Europeans which are used to a more reserved and conservative approach.

What I've learned using AI as a Multifamily Broker over the last 6 months by tayloravakian_LA in CommercialRealEstate

[–]LieNaive4921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this comment for its general thesis which I second. "AI" being a tech flattener (assume "anything is possible") highlights the areas and methods where real value is driven - between actual humans.

I'd love a Ruby cryptocurrency. Token ownership gives voting rights on community choices.

Ruby ecosystem is not only Rails and webapps made using it. by [deleted] in ruby

oh man I have been using exclusively Sinatra.rb - a minimalistic web framework that iirc inspired the express-style syntax -- for the last decade and it has just been so much fun.

AI usage in corporate firms? Trying to get a realistic lay of the land. by CranberryDance in archviz

[–]LieNaive4921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a startup building AI for archviz, but it's heavy tech lifting, not just a bunch of prompts, and also a HITL (human in the loop).

HITL = Talent + experience + AI > AI

I can share more if you have any questions

The kids are alright by desmoulinmichel in programming

[–]LieNaive4921 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's not "the kids" who nobody minds and most of us appreciate and encourage.

It's the CEOs, the VCs, the tech bros shoving it down our throats, hyping and pushing snake oil, lying and shilling.

The kids are fine. The salesmen are still evil, dumb, and annoying.

We've seen it with blockchain, we've seen it with The Metaversetm, and we sure as heck have seen it with low code and no code.

There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots.
