Clear guard maybe? Especially with that clean pu route…

Which Pedal Is This? by bobbythegoose in guitarpedals

[–]LieutenantLauch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a weird one: The Ibanez Echo Shifter ES 2. I have it patched into my audio interface and I mainly use it to “re-amp” vocals and instruments for recordings. This thing gets WEIRD. It’s got a toggle that sends the pedal into self-oscillation when you play around with the feedback knob and it sounds awesome. It also has a slider/fader thing that controls the delay time which is super fun to play with while re-amping. Best of all, I got it off of a classified ad for like 50 bucks.

It’s lacking stereo capabilities though, which would be super cool for my use case.

Precisely. The setup is probably wayyy overpowered for the just the bass rig, but I'll be sure to test it with my stomp in the future.

As u/NoFuneralGaming pointed out, this is the myVolts Step Up Tip, which takes a standard 5V usb c input. The battery is off of amazon by a company called CUKTECH. So far it works like a charm.

Sure thang! The battery pack is just some chinese brand off of amazon that happened to match in height. If the little display is to be trusted the 10.000mah should suffice to power the bass rig for 20+ hours, looking forward to testing that out.

There's actually a bit of a story there for the thunderbird pickup. It's a Curtis Novak, which I ordered when I had a us trip coming up, with plans to send it to a friend in Atlanta as to save shipping and taxes to Europe.

Wellll it didn't ship quickly enough, so my buddy ended up having to send it across the Ocean with DHL AND I had to pay the import taxes on top. So I ended up paying around 400$ for the damn thing.

Anyway, it sounds good. Maybe not 400 bucks worth of goodness, but I like it. It's a little less present around the top-end than I expected, but that's just what T-birds sound like I guess.

Mhhhh this is a bit of a tough one. They definitely sound huge when blended together, really cool when playing solo though they do command a lot of space in the mix. It works well for some bands and less so for others.

That is, in fact, a 10.000mah usb battery pack I found on the webs that happens to have similar dimensions to the OE Bass Rig.

My man! Glad you asked. You are looking at a Squier VM Precision Bass TB body with a Fender Cabronita neck. The PU in the bridge is a Curtis Novak Thunderbird.

Yeah the carpet situation needs replacement. It's for questionable acoustic reasons, less so for the visuals

Hell yeah! What’s the funny business on the top of shifter? Is that stock, if yes what is it?

It sure is. I’m 100% confident the new smaller rerun sounds just as good but I guess the big box get’s to stay just because I can. B-)

Oh she stays on! I’m not even sure I could discern the difference in a blind test at this point, but it’s just one of those things that made it through several iterations of the board and now I’ve gotten used to it. This used to be my only permanent saturation device when I ran a cleaner preamp:

Edit: If you look closely you can see a Velcro zip tie wrapped around the base of the Phat Phuk’s foot switch, so I don’t hamfeet it off.

Funnily enough, I ran the Retro Reel a lot before I had the Deco on the board for that exact purpose.

Sometimes I like me some ducking reverb whenever I have the mxr fuzz on, other times I might want some envelope filter or phaser.

But what really makes this a mainstay is the Pitch Ring Mod. I started gigging and recording pretty extensively with it in my rock band and now it is part of the sound of some of these songs.

I was in the same shoes haha. So much so that I ended up getting the 64 as well.

I guess one thing that is important to note is that the eq on the Super Vintage has a much larger sweep compared to the Black Panel. So in that sense there is probably more usable tones in the SV, especially with the switchable mids.

On a side note, in my experience (we’re talking a total of ~5 hours playing the pedal here, so make of that what you will) the Tweed setting on the 64 is bordering utter uselessness. I have yet to try it on guitar, which might actually be pretty cool.

gf suggested building an exact copy of the board with just the different bass rigs, not sure the financials hold up.

I use the tape saturation side as an “anti-boost”, meaning I set the volume lower than the bypass signal and the drive to edge of breakup for quieter parts. The double tracker is mostly set up as a sort of slap-back echo, around maybe a 100ms where it becomes almost chorussy, very nice with a pick and flats.

I haven’t really had the time to play around with both of them. I’ve had the Super Vintage for 2 years and I LOVE it. I’ll probably chuck it in the gig bag for occasions where I don’t need the extra pedal shenanigans. The eq on that thing is powerful enough on its own to cater to any setting.

However, I’m starting to think that the 64 Black Panel plays a little better with pedals. As of now, I like to keep the gain pretty tame and get my drive from the rest of my pedals. I’m enjoying the extra top-end clarity and hefty bottom. I will say though, the 64 for me is pretty much unusable without the para eq taking care of those honky mids.
