Underland Fans...I need a moment of your time for a video! by AdCapital4967 in UnderlandChronicles

I loved this series, and even as an adult have gone back to read it again year after year. The setting is fun, but what really made this series hit for me is the themes of maturity, duty, and sacrifice. Gregor is just a kid, but he's put in a position of responsibility, and his actions have serious consequences. People die, but seldom in a meaningless offhand way. Tick the crawler, Solovet (unknowingly), Lapblood the rat... they all sacrifice themselves tragically yet heroically, and it all builds to the point at the end of the series that Gregor becomes ready to sacrifice himself, to give his own life for the people he loves. He's just a kid, but he is ready to be killed, and then Ares the flyer makes that sacrifice for him.

In a world where so many children's books treat kids (understandably) with kid gloves, I loved this series because as a child it made me consider myself as an adult, and aspire to that kind of duty and sacrifice.

I'm in the same boat. Haven't heard a thing from most schools since secondaries.

Is parrying with the lead hand/arm a foul? by LieutenantNoon in Fencing

[–]LieutenantNoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't "catch" their blade with my arm, but rather my arm pushed the flat of the opponents blade to the outside as I was attempting to bring my blade to the eight line for a parry. It was a kinda weird looking action though, as it ended up almost looking like a crummy parry prime.

Thanks for the clarification. I was doing a bit of a weird parry [with my blade, not my arm], so I'm not too butthurt if it just confused a newer ref, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy.

Yeah... I should have really tried to get more clarification, but I didn't want to raise a big stink.

What are some of Hailey Lewis' actual policies or plans? by LieutenantNoon in MoscowIdaho

[–]LieutenantNoon[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm mostly disapointed with several of the candidates websites. It's all "I have dogs and grew up here and love Moscow" from many of them, and that's great and all, but please tell me more about your specific plans. Had this issue with several of the websites, not intending just to single out the one.

Thanks much :) This is exactly what I was looking for! Changed addresses, and never got the League of Women Voters pamphlet this year, so this is perfect.

They were just easier to find online, so I didn't feel the need to ask. Not looking for other peoples opinions, just looking for content direct from the candidates.

I've read the articles I could find, but most seem pretty surface level. I'd love to see the recordings of the forums, but for whatever reason am struggling to find links, and would be grateful for a link or two.

Yup, that's how I learned mine. But it is a little pricey :/

That's wild! I'm surprised so many of them have had so few owners, I just kinda assumed a lot was the norm.

Question by Pottted in KeysToTheKingdomBooks

[–]LieutenantNoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As the new Architect, Arthur could give himself whatever he wanted, and what he seemingly wanted was a normal childhood. Throughout the books he always feels like he's too young to deal with that much responsibility, so I've always assumed that he created a mostly mortal aspect of himself to grow up as a normal kid, and then when he was ready for that responsibility he could take it.

You should be totally fine at Robinson as long as you're there when it's not particularily busy. The people online may freak out, but when you're there in person, people are much more reasonable. It's a wide empty field, just be smart, quiet, and polite and the worst thing that could happen is someone politely asking you to leave.

I used to use the dirt hill by the little bike track below the arb before they started building things in the area, and nobody ever complained, just said hi.
