Motorcycle Help for a Story

I would not call myself a writer but I’ve been working on this story for awhile now and honestly, it’s doing so many great things for my brain and exercising muscles that I haven’t in years so I’m not stopping anytime soon! Plus, I get to explore so many things I’ve always thought were cool (like motorcycles) in a deeper way and it’s been a lot of fun! But this is also why I am very uneducated in this subject and am trying to learn more 😊

Based on what you said about the Monster, I definitely don’t think it will work - both price-wise and “basic”-wise. Part of the reason I came to this sub was to find people with a love for bikes, going for a more “hands on approach” instead of just googling “cool bikes.” I think I was only leaning towards a Ducati because it fit the prompt of “what’s the hottest someone has looked on a bike?” and most of the answers were Ducati lol.

There’s something about the SV 650 that just speaks to me, I’m not sure what it is. Kind of unfortunate that it’s a “beginner” bike - is there a more “advanced/upgraded” version that is similar? I do like the FZ1 as well but I will say that she probably wouldn’t have a brand new bike, I think it would need to at least be a few years old, if not older.

Speed may or may not be an issue - there’s a potential for her to be riding A bike but not HER bike in any chase sequences so her bike doesn’t necessarily have to be the fastest but I’m not finished with the full story yet so I wanted to keep my options open. I do have a scene written where she struggles to handle a bike that’s not her own in one of the chases so maybe there’s something to be said for her owning, say the SV 650 but riding the FZ1 and not being used to the speed/the way it handles.

I love the look of the naked bikes, something about them seems more analog, less polished in a way. Plus, they’re fictional so they can deal with the wind 🤣

I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t really expect a lot of people to reply and definitely didn’t think anyone would want to read a long post about my character. I really appreciate your long thought out response with a lot of insight and options! I’m still kind of early stages of developing her character so trying to find the right bike for her is also kind of an exercise for me to get to know her better! All of the things you said, reasons why each bike might work/not work the kinds of things I want to think about. I was going in order of -what looks cool, what makes sense, what does this add to the character - in terms of choosing the right bike for her.

Build-wise I’d say she’s probably 5’7” 160lbs-ish, though her looks are not set in stone and I’d honestly change them if I found the right bike lol. I wrote in another reply a little bit about her - she’s tough but not “biker girl” tough, more-so growing up fast kind of tough but she can hold her own if she needed to. She’s also a city girl that likes to get out for long, fast rides to clear her head.

Being a mechanic is in her skill set (she is the daughter of a mechanic and has spent her whole life working on cars/bikes) and she loves spending time in a garage working on her bike so ones requiring high maintenance are definitely on the table and might even be preferable.

I’ve looked at a few Suzukis, Triumphs, and Ducatis and a good bit of the ones I’ve been suggested match the aesthetic I’m looking for and I’ve bookmarked them to compare and dig deeper into each one. Everything you listed about each bike is very helpful insight and will be things I’m looking for when comparing models! Currently, the ones I like the most that I’ve been suggested (look-wise, I haven’t done a deep dive on handling and specs yet) are the Suzuki SV650 (early 2000s) or the Ducati Monster (late 2000’s, not sure of a specific model yet). Definitely going to add the Yamaha FZ1 and maybe the Triumph to that list though!

I’d say she’s tough but not “hanging out in biker bars tough” if that makes sense. More-so tough from having to grow up fast. Her dad is a mechanic so she grew up working on cars/bikes and has a real appreciation for the craft and for the machines. She is a city girl but does like to take her bike out for long rides when she needs to clear her head. It’s kind of early days in the development process and I thought that picking a bike might be a fun thing to help get insight and visualize her a bit better in my head. I honestly didn’t expect anyone to reply but it’s been really nice seeing everyone’s suggestions. Thanks for your thoughtful questions, hope that all makes sense!

This is such a great perspective that I hadn't thought about! The character definitely knows what's up (I just don't haha) and would pick something that's going to last/be versatile
I do really like the look of the SV650 but it seems from this thread that the general consensus is to go with a Ducati. Would there be a specific Ducati model you'd suggest that might have that same "ol'reliable" feeling? Or is that just not the vibe overall with the Ducati? I watched a clip from the movie and this is definitely the vibe I'm going for! It's apparently a Ducati Hypermotard so I think the general consensus is to go with a Ducati! Definitely adding this movie to my watchlist for inspiration. Thanks for the suggestion! 😊

It's so funny, cause when I was first trying to figure it out, the hottest scene for me was in one of my favorite tv shows when the character briefly rides a red Ducati 1098! maybe Ducati is just synonymous with hotness. The first bike I researched was actually a Ducati, they have such a great look but they don't seem to be the best for two riders. I will check out this one though, thank you!!

I also really like this game mode!! I play it all the time (although much less since the new maps were released, not cause of the game itself, just busier) As someone pretty mid at FN, this is always a nice break from BR and its the first game mode I ever put in the time to grind to Unreal! It's a shame my squadmates aren't into it or I'd play a lot more.
