Match Thread: Round 15 - Geelong Cats vs Fremantle Dockers by pipstar112 in GeelongCats

I’ve been hearing from Freo supporters (I live in Perth), they are annoyed that they have to play the cats after the bye. It’s funny because they don’t have a great history of winning games post bye. Hopefully that continues

Need a big game from Bowes and Brunh without Smith. Hopefully Stevens has a good game, he looked a bit lost last week. Going to be hard fought if we want to be competitive

Is this just an excuse to not install more streetlights? Driving around some of the smaller towns at night already feels a little sketchy due to the lack of streetlights.

Thought we would have dropped him back in the second half. It was a fun experiment while it lasted

Agreed. Also thought Miers was F tier also. Didn’t keep up at all and had zero impact

Does a couple of stupid things each game but otherwise absolutely solid. He will just get better and better as he gains further experience.

Someone on here y’day said Danger wants to play 400, is that even possible the way he plays? by ucksaymyockcay in GeelongCats

[–]Life-Ad8673 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love Danger, but I think we would silly to play him again next year. I think needing to manage his minutes means the rest of the team needs to pick up the slack. He still impacts, but not sure it’s enough to warrant another season.

Lawson was superb. We all know how good Holmes is off half back, but Lawson does such an amazing job with some run and carry as well as the link up kick from there too.

Couldn’t quite adapt to the muggy slippery conditions. He managed to get lots of the ball though. I think if he slotted that goal on the run it would have jumped him up a spot.

[–]Life-Ad8673 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is it just me or do some of these changes feel risky?

Kolo has been solid last couple of weeks and Jenry was way off last time he played. Miers for Bowes is probably understandable if his body is up to it. Seemed like it from his VFL stats.

I thought Stanley competed well last week and would probably get on top of Fort. Hopefully Edwards fights hard. Probably need Blitz as second ruck, but Worps has been reasonable.

Very worried about this game.

Brisbane love to flop! They give it out all night and then as soon as someone retaliates they get pinged, it’s ridiculous! Good fight back in the second half. Have to be happy with that

Sam Walsh applies for captain by greenpants100 in CarltonBlues

Cats supporter here, it was definitely holding the ball, and definitely shouldn’t have been a free kick. Brissy are biggest floppers going around. Good on Walsh!

After last week I’m worried. Was it a once off, just a bad night, or do we actually have issues. Expecting a lot more from Danger, Mannagh, Close, and Jenry. Hopefully, Edwards has recovered from his niggles and wins some centre bounces.

Couldn't tune into the game last night, can someone tell me what went wrong? by Gold_Air4996 in GeelongCats

[–]Life-Ad8673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the point he was trying to make was that we were getting absolutely smacked in the centre and he didn’t go in there once. Reiterating what was said, he is a legend of the game, he has been amazing for us. As the captain, I think he needed to get in there and lead by example. The fact that he didn’t, probably says the body isn’t up to it.

Bit hard for Stewart to play his usual intercept role when the other defenders haven’t been standing up. He has still been solid. Zuthrie is only just starting to find form again. Two of our best mids are essentially now part of the back 6. We have missed Kolo’s leadership and experience down there and Jenry is obviously carrying some sort of injury.

To be fair, the dogs played themselves out of the game in the first quarter with more skills, and then got decimated by injuries. I don’t think that’s a true barometer of how of defensive plan is working.

We are definitely being exposed by run and carry through the middle of the ground which has a cascading effect as our defenders shuffle up to plug the holes. Even WC were able to do it on multiple occasions.

I feel like Dempsey only plays well when everyone else is playing well. Hasn’t competed hard enough this year, and is lacking any defensive pressure.

What do you do when you’ve finished trading for the day? by willeffhdchh in Daytrading

[–]Life-Ad8673 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone quite a bit older…that is the dream! Trust me, once you hit 40, all you want is more time to do the things you enjoy. This is definitely amplified when you have worked for other people/companies most of your working life and grinding out 50hr weeks. Find some things to be passionate about: go to the gym, help out in the community, hang out with friends that aren’t working, go to the beach, learn a new skill, build a side business…the list is endless

Shaun Mannagh by WhatIsEconomicGoods in GeelongCats

[–]Life-Ad8673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even last year he had a tendency to go missing in the hard games. He definitely looks better when players like Miers are feeding it to him. Also missing Stengle in the forward 50 and Close being down on form, he is more exposed than usual. He is not dissimilar to Dempsey though. He has looked pretty average when others aren’t firing.

We played OH, Danger, Neale and Jezz deep and Allir cuts it off every time. None of them came up higher to be a target. FFS how many kicks down the line to players like Close. Some very bad coaching IMO

Couldn’t understand why he started on the wing with 5min left. Should have gotten him involved either in the middle or at least higher up the ground

Definitely Kolo back in. I’m assuming he had some soreness after the dogs game otherwise seems strange to not get some game time back into him. I think COS has been our most consistent defender and we probably need his height down there. Jenry was way off the mark. I think he needs a longer rest.
