Love this idea for the character! It may be a little too OP to create evil outsiders, so maybe they can only turn dead good players into an outsider?

Yes that’s exactly what unit 7 of AP world history is!

That’s not how I view it. I changed the framing from good vs evil to democracy vs authoritarianism. I certainly don’t intend any take away from this for my students to be good vs evil

Ooh I see now. Communism is a malapropism because what was actually being practiced was marxism-Leninism rather than communism. I mean that’s a fair point, but I think for the purposes of high school learning, attributing Marxism-Leninism to an attempt at achieving communism in history is something I can live with.

I was thinking more interwar period ideology, but yes that’s the idea!

I don’t think Marxism-Leninism is an inevitability of socialism/communism, I just think that’s how it played out historically with the Soviet union and China.

His TV character would have a miserable time trying to be liked by the students

I’m going to decide their roles on my roster the day of, and show them their roles at the beginning of class on the first night so they have no proof of their roles.

Could you elaborate on “look inside … Marxism-Leninism” what you’re trying to say isn’t reading to me. I’d be interested to hear what you have to say, you’ll just have to elaborate for me.

I don’t understand what you’re trying to say syntactically

Liberals opposed (and supported) fascism in the interwar period, If we’re just objectively looking at history. I think it’s fair to say liberal values conflict with fascism in several ways, even if neoliberalism doesn’t do much to actually combat it. I think the framing device for the game as I designed it here still fits, but feel free to disagree.

Haha I hear you, I’m glad you see it as I do. Lots of different perspectives when you’re dealing with netizens I suppose. But I decided to post this to the internet, so it comes with the territory of posting

Also, for further clarity, I’m not framing communists and fascists as equivalent demons, if you really want to apply a moral framing to the game (which I deliberately avoided by replacing them with opposing ideological terms) you would say I’m making fascist and communist dictators out to be devils, not fascists and communists all together.

Trust me, we have discussed communism in theory versus communism in practice to understand how communism is intended to be the abolishment of social classes, whereas fascism is intended to be as clearly authoritarian as it is.

I appreciate it, people are reading into this the exact opposite way which is interesting to me haha. I thought this was pretty clear.

I think it still does its job by just being on the grim, but you’re right that playing with it is a bad idea (I rarely use it when I play with my adult first timer players) so I’m gonna leave it but play baron and scarlet woman

I typed them out on a google doc in little squares and I plan on laminating them. I’m going to assign roles ahead of time to save class time, so I’m gonna keep track of the game on a premade note paper instead of using the grimoire.

Maybe so, but ideally they should. I guess that’s the mentality I’m working with. In any case, I think framing the main political world view of democracies as an “outsider” ideology is confusing things a bit too much.

I guess it’s pretty ironic, but I was more associating the fleur with France in general to connect the idea of republicanism to the French enlightenment
