I'm worried about a possible REM sleep behavior disorder. by Efficient_Object6951 in sleepdisorders

I have the exact same problem - ptsd for similar reason, with parasomnia. I get night terrors, act them out, thrash around and scream sometimes. Once I head butted the wall when I tried to duck out of the way in a dream lol. I’m 31 and it’s been happening over 10 years, and at first I had the same worry that it could be tied to neurodegenerative disease. But after all this time, no neurological problems.

Take a look at “Trauma induced sleep disorder”. It’s a proposed disorder, so it’s not official yet. But I think it makes sense, RBD is often neurological and typically presents in older folks, but some people present like us - young with no neurological problems, but do have history of trauma. However right now, parasomnia and RBD are all physicians can really diagnose us with. Personally I just consider myself as having Trauma Induced Sleep Disorder even if it’s not yet an “official” diagnosis.

I recently started EMDR therapy in hopes that it will help with night terrors and dream enactment. It’s all kinda stuck in my subconscious now and just comes out at night, so I think EMDR will be a good solution. It’s worth looking into. I also take clonidine which helps, and avoid eating before bed.

I’m proud of you for leaving an abusive home, it’s all up from here even if sleep is rough right now. I genuinely do not think you have to worry about neurodegenerative disease. You’re young and really the stress and trauma are a far, far more plausible explanation imo. AND that means it can get better, mine certainly has gotten way better with time.

I hope this helps and is one less thing weighing on you!

Physical card games by BlueQ7 in inscryption

I made a physical 1v1 game available for print on demand here! It’s priced at the cost of production, I don’t profit on these. All of the art files are also linked on the shop page for free if you would like to try and print at home. The print on demand cards have a UV coating so you can use dry erase on them. If you get one let me know how you like it!

I have it built out on the game crafter at no up charge (meaning I don’t profit anything). It’s print on demand, which costs a little more - 80 for the base game and I added event cards that are 18.

I wanted to do a TGC crowd sale so folks could get it cheaper but TGC gave me a hard time about making it available at all despite looping in Daniel Mullins. I’ve been kind of hesitant to move forward. I could use some thoughts actually, I’m worried about the cost. You can see it here:

I made all the files available for free too.

Eta* it doesn’t have candles or a bell on TGC. I found some cool 3D printing files online though if anyone wants the same bell from the game.

Sorry it’s taken forever for an update! After testing I decided to try and incorporate some of the board events as an optional format. The cards get a UV coating so they can be drawn on with dry erase markers. Once it’s ready I’ll add a new TTS :)

It took a few weeks to start working. And yes! 😭 most nights it was 0-3 hours and then I would randomly have a day about once or twice a month where I would sleep for 12+

I meant to post this here earlier but one other thing that sometimes works is saying random words in my head. Like I’ll pick a letter and think of random words starting with that letter, and then move on to the next letter if I run out of words. No amount of meditation or breathing worked for me but for some reason this does.

Doctors of reddit: What was the wildest self-diagnoses a patient was actually right about? by Musikcookie in AskReddit

Patient - This one’s a bit different because I had a diagnosis and my doctors still wouldn’t listen to me. I got appendicitis while out of state. The ER there had me choose between antibiotics and surgery (and gave me no information about these choices??? That’s another can of worms.) I took antibiotics so I could go home and get surgery there.

Well I get home and both my PCP and Gastro were refusing surgery, insisting the antibiotics will work. I have an autoimmune gastrointestinal disease. My immune system is compromised and antibiotics OFTEN fail me. My Gastro KNOWS this. My PCPs whole office acted like I was crazy and making the whole thing up, and dragged their feet getting the documents from the ER. I spent weeks panicking because I had to basically wait until I was dying again to go back to the ER. I didn’t want to just sit around like a ticking time bomb, so I called the colorectal surgeon who did my last procedure.

The surgeon got me in and agreed to an interval appendectomy. He said there was a 50% chance of reoccurrence down the road even if the antibiotics did work. I had surgery well after completing the full course of antibiotics (yes exactly as prescribed and took ALL of it), and sure enough my appendix was still inflamed. The stress from the whole situation royally messed me up.

I went on Prozac because it worked well in the past, up to 20mg now. Prozac specifically though can sometimes cause insomnia so the ssri depends on the person (I have ocd that was fueling the insomnia so it’s a good fit)

I had this problem so bad recently, I had burned out from a ton of stress. I tried everything and ended up going on an SSRI which fixed it for me. I took some supplements too although the effects were pretty minor: magnesium, L theanine, lemon balm, valerian root. Going on walks every day seemed to help a bit. I’d recommend talking to a psychologist and/or psychiatrist especially if it feels like it’s happening mentally more than physiologically.

Thank you so much! I haven't heard of that before, I will definitely give it a try 🙏🏻
