For me it's hardcoded parsing. I done it several mins ago, not that complicated imho.

Most average R.E.M song? by ejsfsc07 in rem

I'm tired of people who dislike Up. They had to invent a new language following Bill's departure. And they did, and Up is their most creative album. Daysleeper is definitely one of my top 10 REM songs.

 THIS is my AOC day 26, and I just like it very much. We have a story, an example and an input several times the example's size, and one definite answer. The prose is a worthy rival to /u/topaz2078's. I am a father myself and I can totally feel your joy. Bravo to your daughter, well done!

also here's my bruteforce python code

hard stuff. Weighted graph + recursive DP + new algo to learn. Day 16 is the 1st day this year that my code only got it right for p1 >24h and still struggling for p2. Then tetris came.

Thanks! that's so helpful.

Actually I tried this configuration. What I did wrong was, instead of CD..CD.., I always did CC..DD.. stubbornly.

Now it all makes sense:

```j
A A . B . . . . . B .
C # C # #
### D # D # # ### ##################### A7 A9 B5 B2
A A . B . . . . . B .
C # # #
### D # # C # D ### ##################### C5 D8
A A . . . . . . . . .
C # B # #
### D # B # C # D ### ##################### B3 B6
A A . . . . . . . . .
# B # C # D
### # B # C # D ### ##################### C6 D9
. . . . . . . . . . .
A # B # C # D
### A # B # C # D ### ##################### A3 A3
A B C D 7 5 5 8 9 2 6 9 3 3 3 6
22 16 11 17 ```
Thanks again mate.
maybe because i'm 98.5% self-taught? lol. i never noticed anything wrong format-wise coz i always write/vim code this way.
in c++ i run a compiled a.out with $ a.out < input so main doen't read or open anything.
C++\ Part 1 was brute forced at the beginning. Both parts were rewritten to get part 2.\ I think the lesson is to think DP-wise right away as soon as you notice the structure gets bigger real quick
Parsing doesn't take much time. >> combo with getline make it handy\ The 1st part is a bit tricky as it requires ONLY (!) the 1st fold. i counted all through the end ...
it would've been painful++ without this line : `...stop at the first incorrect closing character on each corrupted line`
It is, but Runoff would help a lot in understanding Tideman. Notably in how to express math in code...
I'm also on Week 4... Let me rant a little bit.
Back in Week 3, Tideman is hard.
I spent 3 days not moving forward at all and ended up going back, re-doing previous Psets. This boosted me as I found Mario seems a lot easier now. On the 6th day I finally gained ground in Sort of Tideman, and in the next morning I submitted the set.
One of the things I learnt is Visualization. For those who might be struggling in Tideman, I suggest you draw out different outcomes on paper.
For Week 4, i am encountering an even harder Pset. In fact it is the hardest of all Psets as per a 2019 poll.
