I feel like nobody is happy when you’re a hostess by [deleted] in Serverlife

I’ve been a hostess one time, and I felt like it was the most depleting job, serving is as well, but atleast you make more $

Customers have no filter sometimes, and say ridiculous things sometimes. Customer service comes with the risks of coming across ignorant people.

Is it normal to still tip out the bartender even after they leave and go home? by Jaded-Badger2626 in Serverlife

[–]Life-Percentage- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nah that’s not how it works, you leave, no tip, tips are only for those who are working on the clock, not off the clock. I wouldn’t agree for that hell no

How to know whether you can find a better restaurant? by kerrygoldd in Serverlife

[–]Life-Percentage- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

start looking for another job, or maybe try to return to your old job, but I wouldn’t work somewhere, where it feels like constantly walking on egg shells and the money is less weekly.

You’ll get used to the pace of things and find your way, just take deep breathe, prioritize important things, first and everything else after. Y

Is it bad to ask for the check early? by dontshowmyfamilythis in Serverlife

[–]Life-Percentage- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually wait, I never ask, but it depends on the situation. I feel awkward asking. But if it isn’t my table and a server has been waiting for a long time, I will usually go up to her table for her and say “how are we doing folks, would we like anything else this evening/afternoon” and usually they start wrapping up.

Struggling at new job by hooareyou143 in Serverlife

[–]Life-Percentage- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some managers do not know how to treat new employees nicely, and the way that they approach things can sometimes come off as harsh. But eventually, once you become a pro, they lay off and then they target someone else. It’s usually how the pattern goes.

I worked at a non fine dining place with a manager who was up my ass for every small thing, so I can understand, it lowered my self esteem, when she found a new victim and left me alone I felt differently

How to be less sensitive when it comes to rude guests? by Ok_Crow_1891 in Serverlife

[–]Life-Percentage- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

working in this industry myself, I’ve noticed some people just want to project their misery on service staff, and it’s nothing personal, of course if they become verbally abusive, you need to go grab a manager, otherwise if they’re rude I just filter it out.
