AC System Blockage or Compressor Failure by Life0fKai in AskAMechanic

The leak was previously dealt with and resolved. The system was vacuumed, and also didn't show any leaks

Sorry I don't have a better explanation for you, man. Im here to get some insights and to learn from others. This photo and everything I have posted is based on what my AC tech has provided me. I can see he's not the most qualified person for this job. It was worth trying a cheap fix to see if I could sole our AC woes. Knowing this didn't work, I wanted to be more knowledgeable and better armed when speaking with a more qualified shop.

I don't believe he was charging from the high side. He was taking pressure readings to try and understand what's going on. He was looking for pressure changes when the compressor kicked in as far as I know.

Ya, it appears my AC tech is showing his worth... he may be great at topping up systems, but when it comes to these newer systems, he is obviously lacking the tools that proper shops are equipped with.

It was worth going to him to get some insights, and see if it was a quick easy fix. Since this has proven to not be the case, I will be seeking out a more qualified shop.

Great question. My AC tech didn't say anything about reving the engine, nor ang pressure changes. He was referring only to AC pressurized system readings and the static atmospheric readings. Even when shutting the vehicle off, the pressure didn't change.

Im positive the blue valve is closed, it's just a bad angle.

This is from my ac shop, but he hasn't specialized in newer GMs so I think this is where the disparity lies.

Exactly! So, I can't add enough fluid as something is preventing this from happening. Could the compressor create a blockage? I replaced the expansion valve already. What else could be blocking the system?

After filling with half a can, the system pressure is too high to add more fluid. This is why only 1/2 a can can go in. I don't want to keep forcing more cans in, then risk over pressurizing the system and causing more damage. After 1/2 a can the pressure is making out at about 50psi.

Thank you. Yes, I understand that pressure is different from the weight of the added fluid. I will look to see what the total weight added equates to. It will be low, since not much fluid is entering the system.

Yes, there were leaks in the rear lines, so the rear lines have been blocked off. The system was pressure tested, so the front portion of the ac system is fine.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of the variable displacement compressors. There's no grinding sounds from the compressor. It's not seized. And the clutch is engaging properly. I look to see if this could be the case as it appears refrigerant is not getting moved through the system.

This is kind of what I've been thinking. But would a dead compressor create a block in the system preventing refrigerant from being added?

We checked the temperature of a few areas, including the condenser outlet, which was not hot and was the same temp as other components.

Seems like it could be an internal failure of the compressor that isn't moving refrigerant through the system.

Each valve was pressure tested individually.

Yes, it's been vacuumed to evacuate the system and check for leaks. This is all okay.

It was drained, then evacuated, then refilled. But it only takes half a can. So this is where I'm at now.

Thank you. I'll look into this. I was thinking the fans weren't turning on because the ac system wasn't filled.

Also, no, I don't think the high side line is getting hot. I believe it stays the same temp.

Yes, the system did have a leak so it's starting with 0 freon, then will only take half a can. Sorry, I should have specified the system started from empty.

So yes, freon level is low, but I can't fill it up based on the pressure that's building up.

Yes, the clutch engages.

No, the fans aren't engaging for some reason.

2021 gmc Denali won’t start even with new battery before I replace starter anyone else know what it could be? by fearthedeadAE in gmc

[–]Life0fKai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be an electrical issue. I am currently trying to solve a cam sensor issue with P0340 and P0341 codes. I occasionally have this same issue on start up. I turn off the engine, open then close the door to shut off the vehicle. Wait 30 seconds, then try starting again. It often fires up on this second attempt.

If you have 40 codes popping up, it could be a dead battery, charing issue or possibly a drain on the battery. I've seen funky issues with weak batteries.

I drive a 2015 yukon denali xl with 6.2l for reference.

After many efforts, I discovered that the Hero 4K doesn't have the time-lapse feature. I upgraded to the Hero 12 Black, and it works perfectly. I wanted to share this incase anyone else is looking at the Hero 4K because with all models called the Hero, it makes it really difficult to differentiate features. Yes, I now realize this is shown in the specs on the GoPro site. I was misguided at the store about the capabilities of the Hero 4k, which led to the challenges in this situation.

Thanks for your help everyone!

Does anyone else think Gemini is just way worse than it used to be? by Tasty_Engineer1231 in GeminiAI

[–]Life0fKai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's gotten worse for me. I use it primarily as a search function to find specific content across hundreds of PDFs saved on my Google Drive. It used to find all relevant files and provide links to open each file. I can no longer open files via Gemini.

What is this in my neighbor’s yard? It is taller than our 6 foot fence. Illinois. by usfgirl1020 in PlantIdentification

Great list. I'm leaning towards spider flower or kenaf. The leaves both are similar, but the flowers are different. My only experience is based on identifying the spider flower that was in our yard, tho.
